The idea of the video is the greed. One is born in the lap of Mother Nature, but destroys it in their greed for gold. For me I don't think it's a contest. I think both songs are winners - they both bring something to the table. I've always been a massive Metallica fan and now I have The HU right up there on that same pedestal! As I enjoy both bands - just fantastic job

That morin khuurs solo is super

The bowed instrument being played by Gala (blue) and Enkush (red) is the morin khuur (the horsehead fiddle), the guitar like instrument being played by Temka is the tovshuur (Mongolian lute). The tovshuur can have either two or three strings, Temka’s has three. The other member is Jaya. Gala represents thunder, Enkush res presents fire, Jaya represent wind, and Temka represents water. The video shows how much Mongolia (and also the whole world) is being damaged by the mining industry. Each time the child is reincarnated the world is worse, but as a man his greed contributed to the destruction. The HU are deeply into the care of our planet, and all Mongolians as well. The video sad but true is about what we are doing to our planet, worse and worse for each generation, and if we don't fix things. The generations will cease

I've seen the Hu twice now. Once at a festival and once at a standalone concert. I must say, at the festival tej atmosphere was amazing. There were so many people, much more then expected and nobody understood a single lyric, bit we were telling along anyway. The stand-alone concert was much more intimate, but so amazing. Small venue so you could really hear and see them well. They sound fantastic live.

Metallica is often referred to as the 4 Horsemen. The Hu are the 4 Horsemen of the Original Elements.

I believe this video is about generations of man destroying the planet for greed and not realizing it until it is to late. The horse head fiddles are called morin khuur and the 3 string loot is called a tuvsurr , these are instruments the mongolians have been playing for thousands of years. They had them made to look special for their type of music.

The black album is my favorite Metallica album, so it goes to Metallica for me, but it's very close. I didn't expect to like the HU's version that much. I'm glad they sang in Mongolean and not just English. I did like the video. To me it shows how mankind has always ignored the planet to gain riches and when they finally realize what they did, it was too late. Favorite HU songs : Genghis Khan, Wolf Totem.

Metallica became boring with their Black album imho. Yes, there are a couple of quite good tracks on this record, but that's it. So I'll go for the The Hu version. Think the rythm and melody fits excellent with the style and sound of these Mongolians. And last, but by no means least, the message in the cover is Sadly True indeed. Take care!

Metallica wrote the song and The Hu perfected the performance of it. Both are great versions but to really have a proper battle, you have to see Metallica perform it with the San Francisco Symphony.

If you want to hear more throat singing from the HU, react to their other songs, such as wolf toem or Shrieg Shreig. You will hear the technique more clearly.

Absolutely amazing band to see live, amazing presence and interaction with the audience plus epic tunes, so worth it to see them live, would see them again in a heartbeat. Both versions are epic

In recent years, name Mongolia has been mocked as "Mine-golia" at global news feed. As you may know, Mongolia is a huge country with only 3m population. Google the map, you will be shocked how big the country is. However, the main state fund comes from mining industries where they usually mine copper, coal and gold. The Hu obviously used this song to point out Mongolia's obsession with mining and why it should stop.

I must say, that is one magnificent beard, sir. Very zeus-like.

The Hu use horse head fiddle and throat singing. But i think we have a another joker in mongolian traditional art. I will advice every one who love THE HU must check out mongolian traditional LONG SONG. uyhan zambuu tuviin naran by norovbanzad is the best long song ever.

LOL I did not realize you had reacted/compared this song yet. Glad you made it. That being said, as a Metallica fan, I will simply start with Metallica's version being a 10/10 as it is the original. I saw The Hu's version like a day or two after it was released and to be honest was VERY impressed. Off the top of my initial reaction it gets a 9.5/10 even though it is.. a bit different.. from the original. Different language, different instruments. HOWEVER, they nailed it about as hard as anyone could. If this had been an original song by The Hu and I had happened to hear it, I would have loved it just the same. Since the language is not one I understand, however, I cannot judge this on a word-for-word, vocal tempo, etc. basis. It just sounds good. The harmonics with the vocals and the strings are goosebump/ASMR-worthy. I thoroughly enjoyed this cover and am happy to have seen/heard it. As an aside, I had already become aware of The Hu prior, due to (I believe) the song Wolf Totem.. but it may have been a different song.. about 6 or so months ago. My daughter is actually a fan of Throat Singing and had sent me a link to a video at the time. Looking forward to more from them for sure.

Metallica have done covers of killing joke,Bob Seger,Thin Lizzy among others.So The Hu have done a cool cover of Sad But True and the video is awesome.

In the realm of bands covering Metallica Orbit Cultures tribute cover of Hardwired is a killer and go the other way around to check out bands that Metallica have covered, Metallica is a solid cover band imo, they take the songs and make their own without destroying the core of it.

People try not to read to much into the reasons or why. The HU and Metallica both represent the Warrior ethos of both people. We in the Southern US have fought in wars against who ever for over three hundred yrs. The Mongols I consider my brothers in WAR, if they need an ally I'm here!

As much as Metallica's original is classic and I am rather hard on covers (or remixes at that) and they have to be done rather well I give it to The Hu. As for proposition how about Hu's Wolf Totem both original version as well as the one they did with Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach version. For non Hu songs how about Bloodywood? Especially Jee Veerey (they are Indian band) or from Poland Kult - Uklad Zamkniety
