Why oh why do these people feel like irritating background music is the "thing". It is so disruptive and it chepaens their whole dessertation! I turn off this shit in a New York minute!
I ve been so sick since I started on Metformin..so why is this happening? Sleepy, tired, gaining weight, nausea, lack of energy, bloating severely ,diarreah ...
Metformin does keep my glucose in check. However, the side effects of severe cramping and diarrhea and joint pain, I need to take breaks from this a week or so at a time.
I started taking CoQ10 a week ago. Metformin depletes folic acid and CoQ10. My leg pain, feet neuropathy, cramps stopped completely. I feel more energy, and sleep better. I put it in my smoothie with B12, B1, folic acid. Give it a try.
I was throwing up for 3 days taking this medication, the withdrawal of taking it even for a short time was horrible. My daughter is here staying with me to help me get over it, my whole body feels like I’ve been in a mixed martial arts fight !
I have been taking Metformin for almost 10 years now...I am 75 years old...together with it I take blended of Filipino Ampalaya, Malunggay, Ginger/Turmeric and Garlic...I found it good for me...

I suggest researching ALL sides of the argument...If I base my decisions strictly on research results, AND don't dig deeper as to it's funding, etc. then I'm deceiving myself. Research numbers can AND do get manipulated by the researchers, and those financial interested parties. Study and study some more to make your OWN decision. Get your information from multiple sources and discern for yourself, what is good for your situation.

I have took metFORMAN for 22 years and my A1C is now 5.4…. Would like to quit using it… but my doctor explained why I still need it. Thanks for the explanations!
Thank you for your clear explanation on metformin. I was worried about its effect on liver and kidneys. Am relieved to hear your clarifications. Thanks Doc.

I didn’t have to many side affects with Metformin in the beginning. Upset stomach for 2 days. As time went on my sugar would drop really fast out of nowhere. My doctor took me off of it right away. Also, my liver enzymes were raised while on it.
I had a wee bit of loose stool which went away along with 10-12 lbs, so no complaints there. Then more diarrhea later which turned out to be Covid not Metformin! This new Covid variant this summer 2024 has gastrointestinal symptoms, so watch out, it may not be the Metformin and get out your at home testing kit! I was shocked to discover I was positive for Covid after two months on Metformin, go figure. Still losing weight, but much more slowly unfortunately, and I don’t know if the muscle aches are from Metformin or aftereffects of Covid, which was only gastrointestinal and sinus, minimal cough.

Thanks for the information, that I never received from my doctor. This motivates me to take it more often. But the diarrhea is nerve racking sometimes because I drive truck for a living.

Was curious to hear about the side effects, specifically the one(s) that I experienced. Will say that I had been on metformin successfully for 13 years. The last two years though I had to go to urgent care or emergency about 7 times because my bowels had stopped working causing me to continuously throw up, fever of 105 etc. Each time I was kept under supervision until the symptoms passed. The last time I was admitted into the hospital under the premise that I might need surgery...until the day before surgery scheduled and my system cleared (I was taken off metformin while in hospital). All the emergency doctors said I didn't do anything wrong..."just happens". My endocrinologist decided to take me off of metformin and the next day my stomach issues resolved. It's been over a year without metformin and never again with IBS. Curious why no one talks about this side effect?
@@mountaingirl1797 surprisingly, nothing needed to be substituted or increased. I was already on actos, insulin 70/30 novolog, and ozempic 1x a week. That continued and kept everything in check. It has now been years on same regiment just without Metformin.

What new updates are there on Extended Release Metformin? As it was recalled last year fir containing dangerously high levels of a carcinogen which was giving people cancer! Ive been on Immediate Release metformin for 1 month, I ran out yesterday and was prescribed ER Metformin which I have not started taking yet because I am scared.
The one thing I do know about the Extended Release M is that you cannot cut it or crush it, and it is awful big to swallow whole. Glad you mentioned about the carcinogen. As long as that info didn't come out of California I shall believe it.
My experience found out my sugar was 1100 .. Thankful to still be here .. I went in for sinus infection .doc gave me steroids. No remind u i was a diabetic. Okay my experience still some days 400 range even with glipizide metiform.. 2 a day .. my big toe be tingling doc says it is okay .. legs be swollen. Weight 285 to 181 ..just want to be normal

My question is, do you take Metformin as your regular daily maintenance? If so, how long have you been taking it and would you prescribe it for people who isn't in pre-diabetic condition?
It would be even much better if we can reverse diabetic without medication. I am on low carb diet and have lost 30 ibs within 3 month and feel very much better without Metformin
We can give personal advice but here is a video you may find an answer to your question: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HAaoY7s5KCY.html
I am doing intermitant fasting and taking only half the doctors recommended dosage. I have reduced my A1C but feel once I get into the fasting properly, I am positive my A1C will hit normal levels. Also Metformin does reduce B12 so you either consume foods that contain it or take the occasional supplement.
Every time I attempt to take metformin it ends up raising my blood sugar. I just started taking it again 3 days ago. This morning I woke up with a fasting blood sugar of 194!!! My fasting blood sugar has never been over 160. I have an awful headache. This is so frustrating. Why won’t it work for me 😞
@@soul2soul399 yes I was, I even had chest pain. The fatigue and brain fog, then chest pain, my body didn't like it. I stopped taking it. Thought low dose ER was gonna be easy on me, it wasn't.
Thank you for explaining the side effects. In my paperwork on that medication it says a lot of different side effects. However, my Dr. Recommend that I take it. I decided to try it again. So far so good. I had to adjust my time, because it make me sleepy. Does this stand true for the Extended release tablet. I only take one in the Evening.
Katherine Brooks , I have done well with the extended release form of Metformin. Still I take the Metformin ER with food. I an taking Metformin Er 500 mg twice a day. I take with evening meal, and a evening snack or the final with my magnesium before I go to sleep. I have a light low carb lunch . Hope this help you in your decision. - James
@@jameskantor0459 Hello Mr. Kantor. Thanks for your reply and the Encouragement. I can sleep with Tylenol😊 I'm glad it does you well. I just have to eat more with it. Thanks for advice.
Thanku doctor for valuable information... I'm using metformin for 2 years..At first 2 times a day then 1 a day for pcos.. Now I'm in intermittent fasting with low carb diet can I take metformin with my occasional heavy meal.. Bcoz I reduce my calories intake.. Only occasionally I take a big meal... That's y ...Thanks Doctor
I have just detected with Type 2 diabetes Doctor prescribed me Metformin who is MD in internal medicine. I asked about alternative to it for side effects but he insisted on Metformin not Berberine ! Should I take Berberine instead of Berberine?? Please advice !!
Thank-you so much doctor for such valuable information on Metformin and all other diabetes info which is appreciated so much. Is there any chance you could turn off background music so I can hear your voice more clearly.
I am 70 years old n just been diagnosed with pre diabetes. Runs in the family from my grandfather on down. Doctor immediately put me on metformin. 500 milligrams a day. How long will the side effects of headaches n diarrhea last? Very frustrating. I test everyday n it is always below 150. I have Berberine n wonder if just taking that would keep my diabetes in check?
Sorry to hear this, @larryworkman1131. Side effects usually subside after a few weeks. Try taking metformin with meals. If problems persist, consult your doctor. Also, remember, a good diet & exercise can help preserve your health.
I have type 2 diabetes,I’m using Metformin 1000 mg morning and night along with Insulin Victoza 12 unit or ml.and Basaglar 30unit or ml,victoza once a day in the morning and Basaglar once a day in the afternoon please what do you think,is this too much for me to take, sometimes I feel so tired weak and burning 🔥 like fire on both of my feet 🦶 and blurry vision please tell me what should I do 👏
I have tried Metformin twice when doctors prescribed it and both times I was convinced I was going to die. It felt as if the chest was about to explode.
I tried extended release and it was better for a few weeks, but I guess when it built up in my system I began to have the same problems. I finally told my Dr that I think I'm allergic to meformin. He said it's a possibility and prescribed ‘Januvia’ so far it works great and I have absolutely no side affect. With that said though, I’m working on not needing the meds at all.
So does metformin do anything to help cure your diabetes so that you can eventually get off the meds, or does it just control a symptom and leave you with diabetes and on meds for the rest of your life?
I guess what I'm asking is does metformin provide any other benefits other than just helping to control your blood sugar. Once you start taking metformin can you gradually reduce the amount you take until you're completely off of Metformin or is this a medication that you have to take for the rest of your life.
@@jeffcorklin6226 of course you don't have to take it if you get your blood sugars back to a normal range. What's your current a1c? The reality is that diet and lifestyle will have far greater impact on your bs numbers than any drug. Drugs like metformin just help along the way. They don't allow you to continue to eat the typical SAD high carb diet. If you watched the video he stated that studies have shown a lower risk of cancers on metformin. That's a pretty good benefit I'd say.
@@bloozedaddy of course your diet has more to do with getting your blood sugar under control than any medication, but most doctors, once they put you on a medication, really don't talk much about your diet. As far as metformin lowering your risk of cancer I wish he would have cited the research that proves that or at least put a link to it on here. If that's true, I would think that everybody should be taking metformin.
@@jeffcorklin6226 If you want to eat stuff you like you should probably continue with the metformin. If you can reduce your carbs and exercise enough you can likely stop taking it. I find life more enjoyable after over 25 years of taking metformin with no side effects to just take the metformin and enjoy eating at least some of the things I would otherwise avoid. I'm 78 and healthy and this approach works for me....and remember, if you take a drug and look for a side effect there is a 99% chance you will find one....or more....

Female 65 metformin pass ten years fine now many on/ off side effect diarrhea headache, stomach upset, tiredness, sleepiness ,body pains of leg hip, back. What to do?
Metformin may not be the answer for everyone. There are many other things you can do in your lifestyle and if necessary medications. If it is a Florida resident please contact us www.SugarMDs.com
I am not a doctor. I give my grandmother momordica so her body is slowly regaining control of her blood sugar by itself. It's in good vitamins stores. Good for your blood and liver. Read up on all the people who got off their meds very slowly and maybe ask your doctor
I take 1000 mg twice per day for type 2 i was sick to my stomach for two weeks but got used to it. I am trying moringa powder 1 tsp twice per day hopefully to get off metformin also low carb time will tell. Thanks Dr

I lost 100 pounds then gained 70 due to quarantine and antipsychotics. I want to try metformin. This video was very informative. Thank you. Also the side effects are very doable for me.
@@carlahill9607 - yes. I’m not diabetic, just borderline prediabetic. Doctor is giving it to me for cholesterol and weight loss plus to lower triglycerides- so far it’s working spectacularly!!!
I am 62 years old and have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I take Metformin 500 mg twice daily. No side effects. With the concern of Vitamin B-12 deficiency I checked my multivitamin bottle label today and it states I get 1.042% of daily value. This multivitamin has the USP verified label on it. I should be ok on the B-12?

Question: You opened with "Metformin used to treat high blood pressure". This is the first time I have heard of this. I have been taking 2 different BP beds for 15 years. Why wouldnt my Dr. prescribe Metformin?
I am diabetic type 2. For last 3 months, I am on low carb diet with no medicine. I am wondering if metformin is good to have with low carb diet. Please advise
One of the biggest benefits of Metformin is the cost. I get brand-name Metformin at Walmart, 180 500 mg tablets, a three month supply, for $10. Cheapest prescription medication I have.
Question....Why after starting Metformin did my blood sugar go up more? I take HCTZ and Metformin, I wonder if those two drugs can cause that blood sugar to rise? TY
My knees got as bad as my 90 yr old Mother....pain subsided within 2 days after stopping metformin!!🤯There must be something to this (even though pubmed site states metformin HELPS osteoarthritis. I don't understand why it hurt my knees so badly. Now I'm back to not having a solution for insulin resistance....any ideas? Will Berberine cause knee pain as well??? Thank you
