i love how Rabbit gave the Maxima to the tow company the same way Ford Motor Credit gave him the box truck. "Anybody ever gave you anything?" Priceless!
Something similar happened to my brother. He sold a black 84 IROC to a guy who paid him cash and claimed to be a commercial fisherman. Few months later he got a call from the Seattle PD asking if his iroc was stolen. They had gotten into a car chase with this guy that turned out to be a drug dealer. Guy got away but the cops had the iroc. Brother could have gotten the car back but told them that he had sold it.
In NJ all rest stops are in the middle, there is also one on I-77 in NC that is in the middle just past Statesville. EVERY rest stop should be that way, they're wonderful.
I’d love to have a stick shift Lincoln town car didn’t know they existed. You should’ve paid the $500 and flipped that mother again lol . Real stories love it!!!!
I made a lot of money off tow cars (with the same basic facts). Now, when I sell a car, I tell the buyer that if the car gets towed (and they haven't transferred the title) that I'll go get the car and if they want it back; they'll have to buy it from me again. I've found it as the best way to get people to transfer the damn title....
Hey Rabbit, don't be too doubtful about those guys being college professors. In my freshmen year of college, my professor showed the class how to extract THC and infuse it into sugar cubes. Great teacher. made class fun and we actually learned. To bad he didn't last to the end of the semester cause some asshat complained.
Had a 5speed maxima got 300k out of 1 clutch replaced it n a year later input shaft bearing went through the side of the trans almost 400k good daily driver
I dunno Rob? Giving away a Black Maxima sounds like you're exercising your Huite privilege. Let me ask Matt Farrah and see what he says. A Lincoln Town Car with a manual transmission? Okay Matt Begley, fess up. That ain't Yoo-Hoo in that can, now is it? Did Uncle Rabbit slip a little happy juice in it before you fired up the camera?
Sold a Toyota van to a guy... six months later I see it on the news front and center in a hippie protest where they were hanging in bivouac's to save some old growth trees a thousand miles away. Two weeks after that a towing company calls and asks what I want to do with it. That guy did not even register it !
I had a sweet 2003 maxima top model gxe or something 6 speed charcoal grey on black leather fully loaded had heated steering wheel had cone filter and deleted resonator 3.5 fast as hell drove it too the junk yard with bad rot and slipping clutch would have done the clutch if body wasent smoked
Exact same thing happened to me! But it was even longer. Traded in a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee I drove after I graduated college on a car I had always wanted (don’t laugh), a 98 Volvo C70 coupe. Just like the one Val Kilmer drove in The Saint remake. Manual and everything which was rare for those. Only difference was mine was white. Anyway, not important. Fast forward, count ‘em, 5 YEARS later I had traded it in on an 04 Saab 9-3 sedan because we had our first kid. Got the same certified letter from a towing company in Indianapolis wanting me to come pick up my Jeep I hadn’t had for 5 freaking years. I called them up and they said the same thing. I was the last registered owner. Turns out it was stolen from the dealership I traded it in at a half decade before and never found. The owner of the towing company said I could have it for the towing and storage fees. After the guy finished laughing his ass off that I hadn’t owned it for 5 years I asked him what kind of shape it was in and if it was even worth coming to get it. He said “well, it’s on two donuts and is barely recognizable as a Jeep but it runs. Probably not worth it but on the bright side there is WAY more than enough weed left over in this thing to more than pay for the storage fees.” I still regret not going back up and buying that back just for the story.
My first manual car was a 3L V6 Maxima manual. I would launch the hell out of it in Lake City SC. My daddy "Cuz" and you had lunch one day in Darlington and you told us the story about the bubble gum market light. Anyways I use to call it my Japanese M5 because the back had an M and 5 other letters. Can't wait to show my old man this story Rob. Thanks!
I here again for another legendary story by the one and only Rabbit. Thanks for uploading and I swear I read somewhere today that Netflix is in a downward spiral to bankruptcy or that article could've been wrong and misinformation. Keep on keeping on brother.
I'm a mobile truck repair mechanic and while I'm driving around searching for these trucks that are broken down i listen to your stories. (I am in california btw.) While I am watching "listening" to this video I am told by my gps to turn on greenville Rd. But they gps doesn't pronounced it right. Robot lady voice. Greenville with the right accent in the honey poured over gravel voice is the only way it should be. 😂 Love these videos and stories keep em coming.
Man we had a Maxima when I was a kid in Sweden, my dad traded it for a Citroen XM and that was the comfiest car ever, we kept it for 10 years even though it was a nightmare with electrical gremlins. The fun thing about the Maxima is that the biggest engine was the least thirsty, the lower bhp models just had to work too much for that heavy car. Really rare as manual as well, always automatics in sweden.
I had something similar happen with a truck I got from a wrecking yard, I got it for $700 bucks drove it home detailed it and turned it up sold it to a wholesale guy for $1500 and he wrecked it drinking and driving on a date, luckily for me I sent in the report of sale To ththe state so I didn't have to pay towing and storage.
I'm glad someone understands the struggle of aftermarket parts and collision repair. Never a good combo when you want something to look good and be right.
Ok, funny thing, my buddy had a similar thing happen to him... He used to drive a little red 88 or 89 Honda Civic Hatchback, this was about 2011 in British Columbia, Canada, it was a good little Honda, had a stick shift as well, and he loved that car, well one day he hit some water on the highway and hydroplaned into a ditch, tore the side of it up and bent the front axle a bit, the car still ran but was deemed a write off by the insurance company. So this local guy we both knew said he had a Honda and wanted the car for parts, so fair enough, buddy sold him the car and gave him the title ect... Fast forward about a year and a half later he gets a call from an unknown number... Friend: hello? Number: Hello this is Constable so and so from the Prince George RCMP (note, we live in a town called nelson, which is about 12 hrs away from prince George) is this mister Shawn Wilson? (Not real name) Friend: um... yeah Cop: Im calling to tell you we have your car in impound here, the driver was driving it uninsured and was also intoxicated Friend: ... what car? Cop: a red 1989 Honda Civic Friend: I HAVENT OWNED THAT CAR IN ALMOST 2 YEARS! turned out sketchy dude sold his buddy this wrecked Honda civic to drive it up north 12 hrs uninsured (illegal in canada) and unable to be insured as it was a write off and then continued to drive it around uninsured for a year and a half all under my buddy's name The cops tried getting my buddy to pay the storage fees but he told them to do what they want with the car he sold it 2 years ago lol His choice of cars has gotten better, hes owned or owns a drift Nissan 240sx, a 57 Chevy 210, a 77 Camaro Z28, and a 86 3/4 ton suburban
I worked at Budget car rental in the 90's Used to get people from South Phoenix who rented the cars fro the weekend to pretend they owned them. They'd come back missing the budget stickers, one came back with tinted windows, and one came back on a tow truck with bullet holes from a shootout.
@@haydenreyes4621 we always had crashed cars, like this shortened-on-the-left-side Crown Vic imgur.com/gallery/10kwT. Only one I saw with bullet holes was the maxima, but it happen to come in while we were waiting for shift change.
*I had a 1980 AMC spirit that someone done the same thing with it. bought it for $650.00 in 1983 drove the hell out of it, jumped it beat on it like the cops were after me every time i pulled out of the drive way and turned around and sold it when i bought my brand new 1985 Camaro Iroc-z drove the iroc 2 years almost got in some SERIOUS federal trouble running from the law after putting a stage 3 chip in the computer and a set of racing wheels and tires on it, sold that one bought a Mazda B2000 SE5 and made a low rider out of it. put a few fast parts on it ended up selling it for a 4x4 MONSTER stepside GMC a year or so later. One extreme to the other ya know? well couple months after getting the 4x4 i get a phone call telling me that my 1980 AMC spirit is in a tow yard and i need to come get it and pay the storage. it had been there 8 months and it was going to cost me $759.00 told the guy hell i beat the shit out of that car for 2 years and sold it for $500.00 a few years ago. curiosity hit and i asked the guy does it run still at least? he said he didn't know, they pulled it from the Macon Mall parking lot it was abandoned there. didn't have any keys or anything for it but i was the last registered owner of the car. then my conscience kicked in and i told him well buddy good luck finding the owner I'm not the one. I sold that car a long time ago and even if i hadn't there's no way in hell i would pay more for it now broke down than i paid for it the first time. He tried to offer me the car for $600 told him can't do it , have a nice day*
Love this story. Grew up in Cayce. No surprise there. Lots of drugs come through Cayce from O’Burg on the way to Columbia. Not so sure about the rest area being half way, as it’s on I385 but I’m sure it would be a good place to meet!
Do you have a summer intern position? I’m serious. If you do I’d like to submit my resume. I interned last summer in the Bell County Courthouse, ive helped at the front desk of Bristow Group- If you’ve used any thing petroleum based than Bristow has probably produced it. I’ll be 15 this summer and would like to learn. I’ll bring coffee, wash Windows. I’ll even provide my own apartment and ride to and from work.
Something about 4 door sticks for sure the 4DSC Maxima's (4 Door Sports Car) were popular rides back in the day, I own a 6 Speed Mazdaspeed 6 and had a Mazda 6 5 Speed Station Wagon for a hot minute as well.
LOL.. I sold my old '55 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 . 2 years later the Police call me to come get my car as it was abandoned on Hwy 129 in N. Ga. The new buyers never registered in their name and left it in mine. So I just go pick it up and I have my old '55 Olds Rocket 88 and bring it back to the house. Best car deal I ever had. Apparently it was used for something, i.e. bootleg moonshine or something~~.BTW, this was back in 1968~
Those were amazing little cars I owned one from 2002 to 2013 that was a silver automatic. You could add fifteen horsepower by using premium gasoline which was a rather cool feature.
I had the 20th anniversary black and silver edition maxima, Brand New 2000 I think, It was a dog. It had no pickup at all. They touted 235HP but it felt like 125. The turn radius was literally the same as a yellow school bus. The drivers ergonomics for suck a big car were terrible. I had to drive it spread eagle because my legs did not fit under the steering wheel. It was designed for someone 5 foot 4. Ridiculous awful car. One time my wife hit a softball sized rock in the road and bent the suspension so badly it was going to cost a couple of grand to fix. We ended up trading it for a 2006 charger SRT8
Damn, everything is a huge drive in the south. I live in NC now. People drive like 3 hours just to buy my used photography equipment. On Long Island, people didn’t want to drive 30 minutes for anything haha.
Love those registered letters from towing companies or salvage yards. I even got one from a scrap metal place about a car that I had last seen in the woods with no motor and missing a lot of parts.
One of my worst mistakes in life is getting in one of those Maximas for a road trip with a girl I worked with at an arcade. If you drive one of those, you’re bound to end up with a story whether it’s because of the engine blown out or the stoner behind the wheel. Great story Rob
@port nut they are if well maintained. But buying a used Altima or a maxima with 80k+ miles… you already know it’s gonna have some issues from whoever owned it before you
This story don’t add up 😂 you said the car was a 2001 and was 7 or 8 years old when you bought it, but then you said that you sold it in the “early days” of the internet...pretty sure that the early days of the internet was not like 2009-2010 🤷🏼♂️
Hey Rabbit, what the deal with all the big ole' girls in Orangeburg?? Everytime I stop through there on my way from W.NC to FL I stop there to get gas. My lord there are some thicker than snickers biggins in that neck of the woods. Keep up the great story brother!
Rob i LOVE listening to the stories you tell, but brother you're voice is to strong for this mic you are using, i beg of you invest in a better mic so we can enjoy you even more.Again sorry but i had to write this, big fan!
I had a little 99 Nissan Maxima That was one little car to drive It all last on the freeway decent fuel mileage listening to your story just reminded me of it
