This video, shot through the front door/window of Nippon Sharyo Highliner II cab car unit 1276 in Metra service, shows the entire northbound trip of Metra Electric Train 338 in real time. This train ride originated from South Chicago 93rd street station and terminated at Millennium Station Station in downtown Chicago.
Special thanks goes out to the friendly Metra crew.
Please excuse the fact that this video was recorded during the evening in April. The view towards the front of the train during certain portions of the trip was rather dark and at times my camera struggled to focus as a result.
Circa April 2023. This video was recorded in 4K UHD.
I've time stamped moments when the train made stops at stations and when the train passed by some points of interest:

We lived in South Shore back in the 60s to mid 70s. I took this train countless times as a child with my mother to go downtown on a Saturday. It was the old green Illinois Central passenger train back then. Single deck with wicker seats, and windows that opened.

Exact same cars I rode on as well in the 60s and 70s.

Great video, but strange to see most South Side stations with no passengers!

The Metra Electric runs through some pretty scary neighborhoods. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to ride the train at night

@@jackchen7003 In the morning, the Southside stations are packed. Once residents commute back home from work, most don't get back on the train at night time. I've rode packed trains on the South Shore line at night many times tho; but I always enter from Indiana.

Metra Electric Main Line to University Park goes through some scary neighborhoods but once it goes pass Hazel Crest then the neighborhoods get better. South Chicago line goes through the scary neighborhoods and Blue Island line goes through them too.

Prior to May 1971, there was a stop at 63rd for IC Intercity Trains

That small brick building you see on your left going under rosevelt Road is the last vestige of Central Station

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/67th_Street_station_(Illinois) That's apparently the former 67th Street station that was shut down back in 1984 due to low ridership.

I rode this line in 1971. Old 1926 Pullman trains with rattan seats. Slower track not well maintained and old wooden grey painted platforms!

I know those cars well. The stations in the 60s and 70s were shabby, but as a kid, I loved it.
