In this video, we will be looking at the Waterworks range of Metric OD Compression Fittings. These fittings are highly regarded as a well-established European brand and are globally recognised as the most certified compression fittings in the world. We stock MD Compression fittings in sizes ranging from 20 through to 110mm with a huge range of variations. Common applications include, compressed air, chemical solutions, potable water, irrigation systems and gaseous fuels.
Let’s look at the key features and specifications.
- These fittings are made from Polypropylene and they can withstand exposure to UV radiation.
- All fittings 20-50mm have NBR 70 O-rings, and 63-110mm fittings feature the unique Waterworks designed tapered lead-in seal making for an easier installation. We can include the round O-rings for the larger sizes if you prefer.
- The thrust ring is also made from polypropylene, and this securely holds the seal in place when pressure is exerted onto the seal to lock it into the pipe.
- The split ring is made from polyacetal.
- The white inner component called the grip ring has unique ridges that grip onto the pipe as the nut is tightened, ensuring a secure connection, and preventing the pipe from pulling out.
- The cap nut is also manufactured from Polypropylene and has a long thread making installation much easier.
- These fittings are manufactured by an ISO accredited company, and they have a 50 year service life. They are certified to AS/NZS 4129 and AS/NZS 4020, making them suitable for potable water applications. They hold the Watermark certification and are also certified to the world renown and exacting DVGW standards.
- The pressure rating for all sizes of fittings in this range is 16bar at 20 degrees Celsius. You must derate the pressure rating if temperatures are elevated.
The key benefits of the Waterworks Metric OD Compression fittings include:
- Enhanced Sealing. These fittings are designed to seal without the cap being fully tightened. This feature is particularly useful in low-pressure systems.
- Resistance to movement in cases of ground movement or pipe rotation, these fittings are less prone to leaks if the nut becomes slightly loose. Other brands that require complete tightening of the nut, may be more susceptible to leakage in such scenarios.
- The nut thread on these fittings are longer compared to most others, making it easier to get the caps started when securing the connection, also giving a positive seal.
- They are a quality European designed product that has been proven for more than 40 years.
- They can withstand sub-zero temperatures.
-Only certified raw materials are used that suit New Zealand’s harsh environment.
- The all-black fitting does not allow light to penetrate, therefore protecting the water quality in potable water pipelines against growth of micro-organisms.
Now, let’s finish off with a few installation tips for these fittings.
1. Always chamfer the pipe before installation. This helps in getting the pipe past the seal and provides a smoother insertion of the pipe.
2. Witness mark the pipe to make sure it is positioned correctly up to the shoulder of the fitting, ensuring a secure connection.
3. Make sure the pipe reaches the shoulder of the fittings to ensure a positive seal.
