The small attention to detail with the hands interacting with everything in such a shanked way is astounding. Huge props to the animation dept over there, it’s lovely.
It's that detail that makes the game a chore to me. I say to myself: Great, now I gotta pick up all these items and waste my time watching hand animation after hand animation. It's why I hated the recent Thief game.
@@navarrolevel7 yeah they died out in 2016. I was heart broken when that happened, but I'm glad like a Phoenix they rose from the ashes and made something that they did great and turned it into something superior.
8.5 is a pretty good score. The game looks really good and I honestly hope people will enjoy it despite the controversy it got just before release. I will definitely pick it up soon.
@@JJG1666 the game got pulled from steam only 2 weeks before launch in favor of the epic game store, so people got mad. I play on console though so I don't care that much, but I still understand why the PC community is upset.
Love this game. Exploring every hidden area off the main path and it’s awesome. Collectibles everywhere while surprises awaiting ? No spoilers. I give this game 9/10 for sheer content, story, and action.
Good job, i respect the score and it fits for the majority of people. :) As a huge fan, nothing less than 9 for me haha. Its the closest game we can get to Stalker.
I will be honest, I totally forgot about Easy Allies but your reviews remind me of how much I missed Game Trailers reviews... always top notch, high quality and... just damned good. Thank you for continuing the awesomeness. I have a lot of content to catch up on now. :)
I believe when rating games there's also the "this is my jam" factor you have to take into account to. So you can judge a game on gameplay, story, atmosphere and what it does wrong or right, but the "this is my jam" factor is if the game's topic is something you're into. Like for example, Ryse might be the best thing for you if you like Roman stuff, or Dead Space would be your thing if you like sci fi/ horror. It's like a personal +10 to the review score because it's "you're jam" I love the Metro series. I love the books and the game. I also love the Stalker series, and Metro Exodus is the perfect combination of the two games for me. A story driven narrative that takes you through a well crafted open world. 9.5 for me!
Appreciate that this was reviewed on PC. The reviews are well written and narrated. I feel some of the format can use some help. Particularly, what needs improvement is the scoring system. The scores seem like arbitrary numbers with little meaning. I don't know how they work, what they mean, or what criteria is needed for the score. Perhaps there is someplace where that information can be found that I'm unaware of. Something seems needed in the videos to let those scores have more impact and be meaningful to the viewer. Perhaps a short summary of pros and cons about the game that can help viewers weigh them against each other. Or maybe go over the game categorically, talking about the aspects of it in a more systematic way (graphics, sound, story, level design, etc). Making the scoring process more understandable would make the scores more useful to the viewer.
Easily the best game in general in a long time. I saw people giving this game a 5-7 score. Wtf is wrong with them? I wonder why the media is hating on this game. Either way it will be seen as crazily underrated in the future. This is a 9.5-10/10 game.
You guys are one if the very few voices in the video game journalism industry I trust and I just got into this series. Playing Metro 2033 atm and it is great with some flaws and feeling a little outdated but still good. Can't wait to try this one out but want to beat the first two before I do!
Great review. You guys are the best. For my first Metro, I really enjoyed the game. Great story, characters, mutants, environments. It's a awesome game, especially towards the end. Only thing I didn't like was some of the levels like the desert are to big. But it didn't take anything away from the great experience. I give it 9/10.
Metro: Last Light is my favorite single player FPS game. The bugs seem a little frustrating, but I think I'll still be picking this up in the next few days. I just need to finish Claire B playthrough for RE2.
I finally played this game... I 100% agree. This game is also an 8.5 for me, would be a 9.5 if not for the issues with combat and dialogue glitches. Such great world building, and all the interaction options with the crew members really helped add to the depth of their camaraderie. I also had a "fun" experience where my flashlight stopped working in the middle of the 2nd chapter and then randomly started working again in the forest chapter... I would bring out the charger but it wouldn't charge no matter what I did.
This game is what I hoped FO76 would give me: Story, world exploring, crafting, looting, pretty graphics, a post apocalyptic scenario etc. By all means: It's not perfect, but I'm enjoying it a lot!
Didn't miss. Still it was supposed to be a Fallout game. World exploration, world building and story telling were always FO strong points. Instead we got a repetitive, grindy mess of a game that is fallout shadow instead of a multiplayer iteration.
@@RedArmsTOR yeah Todd Howard kind of misled everyone with that crap. I've been really enjoying it too, way more atmospheric than Fallout 4 and I hope Bethesda take some notes and start making better games.
Ben is probably the most articulate and well-spoken person on EZA. I always like the way he describes things because he's descriptive and conveys emotion at the same time.
Adore the metro series. Will definitely pick this up at some point. I want to support but all of these AA games end up going on sale for more then half off 3 months down the road
I like that it isnt like other games, when you activation something or use something, it actually takes time to do so which makes you vulnerable, forcing you to clear the area before progressing. If i remember correctly the last 2 installment are the same. It also makes you feel like you arent a super hero, you cant go gun blazing and slaughter all the enemy as your ammo and health are limited. It makes you feel like you are really trying to survive. also their attention to detail is great, but they didnt overdo it. for example, when you using your backpack, crafting, and swapping mod for your guns, it equip, craft straight away. unlike some game...when John build the house, you actually have do all those button press....like cant you make it into a cinematic? Or quick time event in yoga?!
@@CommandersReview Hey, at least I won't have to listen to that stupid accent of _some_ of the characters. We could just pretend that English = Russian and have the characters speak normally, like you would do when watching a theater play. Русская озвучка все же лучше, как по мне.
After the trailers they had shown so far, I feared that this game would have sacrificed the series' outstanding mood and atmosphere to be yet another open world game. Glad to hear they retained at least part of what made the previous games so great. Might pick this up when I find it for a good price.
What's most impressive is the evolution of the series. 2033 hasn't aged too well but Last Light and Exodus are both clear steps up from the previous game. TBH I worry about a 4th game because a step up from this almost seems too good to be true. Really hope I'm proven wrong on that if there is another.
Didn't wait for reviews on this one - but great job!. Beautiful game and what a story driven game should be like. I really didn't mind the voice acting. Did have a few crashes on PC. But saving system is awsome, and didn't loose anything. Also loved they didn't stick mindlessly to an open world game design. When the story is better served with a linear scripted level - that is what they did. And works 10x better this way than the "captured" nonsense in FarCry 5. Have to force myself to stop playing every night
I love this series, if anyone hasn’t played the other ones first it’s so worth it..this game is mad fun so far tho deft doesn’t disappoint, also I love the voice acting sue me lol..I been randomly yelling out blyat!!! From habit for years now lmao 😊
I loved gametrailer reviews. I’ve been watching since 2002. I’m glad it lives on without that Siftd games guy with his one show with Michael pachter that no one watches anymore and who cheats and records audio from the cyberpunk closed door showing. Love you guys!
Ben probably doesn't have an RTX card. If you want deets on that good good ray tracing Digital Foundry has a half hour video digging into the PC version
I can only agree with the voiceacting - sometimes its so overdramatic it sounds like something out of an SNL sketch. BUT - and its a big but - apart from that, its one hell of a game. This game is one bulky, dented, rusty masterpiece - very russian indeed.
The world is stunning, but I'm having a difficult time enjoying the exploration because the controls are so wonky and inconsistent... Can I walk through this? Maybe. can I climb on this? Maybe. Can I go faster? No
Have to say though.. giving this game more time to become a 10/10 since I have to install yet ANOTHER launcher on my computer if I'm going to decide to buy this. Incredibly annoying every single company is trying to create their own launcher.
Ben knows wats up He nails words that came to my mind too when i played it Anxiety, yeah i felt more anxiety here than RE2 remake , thanks to atmosphere of some places
@@JoeSkeen It makes no sense, this game looks absolutely gorgeous on PC with proper specs, and console people shouldn't complain about having to play the washed up version where Raytracing doesn't fully justify the spec requiements. on PC this is a godsent to the new age of RTX games
@@Adellund Unless you're on a 60hz monitor, the RTX global illumination is nowhere near worth the performance cost. The performance is halved. 120 fps at 1440p versus 65fps (with a 2080Ti). 4a Games did an excellent job with traditional lighting. Don't get me wrong, I would be fine with a 20% performance hit or something like that for RTX illumination, it does look better, but to go from 120 to 65 is rough on a 1440p/165hz monitor.
Good review? They obviously didn't play the side missions the right way or better yet, hardly played them at all! ALWAYS do side missions! Yes, you use up resources but most of the time if you scavenge everything, you regain them back & then some. You also get UPGRADES for your gear, from weapons, equipment, helmet, suit, & etc from these missions. Most importantly, doing side missions helps your chances of getting the good ending, so don't read this and do no side missions, then get mad when you get the bad ending.
There's a lot they should've kept from FC2. AI, fire spread, destructible environments, etc... have all been toned down in later titles. Good thing Metro exists instead!
Game freezes so often on the One X I had to stop playing until it has been patched. Don't support it in this state is all I can suggest to anyone on the fence.
The Russian version of the game is saturated with a meaning understandable only to Russian. The same pioneers in the camp, bandits, Kazakhstanis, etc. In addition, the Russian voice acting uses peculiar phonetic connectives and expressions so close for Russians. I really liked the musical accompaniment, which emphasized the meaning of what is happening.
Can I make this my first Metro game? I've been curious about the series, and it sounds like chronologically this is far removed from the past entries, but I also don't know if there ARE things that connect it all together that means I actually should play earlier entries.
You should play the others first tbh. A)They are excellent. B) You play the same character in all three, so experiences and characters referenced and currently with Artyom in this title will obviously resonate more with you if you have experienced both previous titles.
Yeah you can start with this one. Nothing major will be lost on you, although you'll miss some background info on Melnik, Anna and Artyom. It's pretty much a self contained journey otherwise. Although one of the endings also make old characters pop up, which can be confusing, but it's nothing too major.
Not sure it's a game for me, I played the original years back and didn't click with me at all. Was overly scripted and had odd map layouts. Was waiting for EZA review to confirm if any of this is fixed and the idea of being more open isn't reassuring. Pass.
2033 hasn't aged well. But my main reason for thinking that is because it was too action oriented. The mutants were just bullet sponges and everything game down to a firefight. I prefer creeping around and planning my next move carefully. Exodus does that greatly. That being said I still think there is room for improvement with the series. I actually completely understand your reservations for this game. But Last Light is much better than 2033 and Exodus is better (arguably) than Last Light. Even if this isn't the game that wins you over for the series, keep your mind open on the potential 4th installment. It may be the one that hooks ya
how long is this game? and what about its replay value? i'm really on the fence about buying this game, so i'd appreciate it if you guys could answer these two concerns of mine
It's 15-40 hours depends how much the player explores each of the mini open world maps. There's a hardcore ranger mode you can do that from the start but I would say play on normal to enjoy it and then hardcore for a second play through.
There are side quests and be sure to talk with everyone in your camp/train and when your on the open areas your free to explore how u want. I think they did a good job mixing open map exploration with linear levels.
