Metro safety investigation targets homelessness crisis 

These people knpw where the shelters are and the services.They do this because theyre allowed to.Start checking fares at the turnstile and thatll stop these problems by 80%.

I’m sick of homeless people running and ruining the city, then at the end they get a free place to live while every other honest person has to work for.

When people are homeless, walking around with no tshirt, loud music… they shouldn’t be allowed to even get in the terminal. Hold these weirdos responsible for the normal public.

This is so unsafe and unhealthy on so many levels. Homeless people need help, and not just with housing.

I get 20 free rides a month and stopped taking it. Its sooo unsafe.

It's very simple, if you don't have fare, you can't get on the transit. Why can't Metro figure that out? How many people have to be attacked before they do something?

I don't know why it's so hard to capture all these stray urban campers and put them in an enclosed camp to protect the public from these menace. Their family don't give a f about them until they expire, then everyone comes out and sue the city for $$$.

Am I wrong to think that the metro system is to transport people and is not a homeless shelter on wheels? These individuals need to get assistance somewhere, but living in the trains and stations is not a solution. The MTA should not let the homeless ride back and forth until the trains are taken out of service. Everyone needs to be removed every time the trains reach the end of the line. The stations are not homeless shelters either. MTA security, the LAPD or whoever is patrolling the stations need to remove people who are not there to travel immediately. The stations are not there for sleeping.

The reporter has no idea on how to report this. You should ride the metro everyday. You will stop putting sad music on the background. The homeless smoke and do drugs inside the cart. They intimidate women and the elderly. The homeless need to be removed from the metro station. I don’t feel safe riding the metro at all.

" They are not homeless because of the issues that we have in the city", They are homeless in Los Angeles, because of the complacency of our political class, and the industry built for and around homlessness issue. They are being bussef in by the dozens from other places to this sanctuary city where they can roam free and do as much damage as possible without being held responsible for it. Not so great for the homeless community, absolutely horrific for the hardworking families in this city.

The problem is fare evasion. You can keep most of the homeless out if fares are enforced by having dedicated law enforcement and security at every entrance and exit to prevent anyone from loitering or just trying to ride without paying. As for buses that’s more difficult but for Metro Rail its easier to enforce. There’s a reason why you don’t usually see homeless people on the trains but you see tons of them on the subway and buses.

I thought Mrs. Bass signed bill to house the homeless in hotels or something like that.

How about “no fair , no entrance”? Build camps in the desert. Bus them em there.

More talk. Heard it all before. Metro refuses to ensure that riders pay. They allow people to either jump the turnstiles or just open the emergency exit to enter. They could end 90% of the problems if they just made sure riders pay. Bass is just Garcetti 2.0 . Lots of talk and no substance. Its just mind-blowing that she beat Caruso in the race for Mayor. At least with Caruso we had a slim chance of getting something accomplished. And we all know where Wiggins stands. She refuses to put armed police on the Metro because she said it would have a disproportionate and negative impact on black and brown people. Yes, she actually said that. What does that tell you?

I miss when they used to check for tickets. I mean come on... You barely hop on and there's people with shopping carts of junk already on or waiting to get on. They are thinking ahead of the Olympics that is coming. They want to hide the problems LA has just like they did when they had the summit. Hide and kick all the homeless out of freeway entrances or exits. The problem is that most of them aren't California born. They are from the east coast. Most of them committed a crime in a small town and were told to go to California and was given a train ticket or bus ticket.

We spent billions of dollars on a nice subway, and we can't use it anymore. What a shitshow.

I ride subways and buses pretty much exclusively when I travel to Europe and Asia. All give me pleasant experiences. I travel very often, including third-world countries. Nowhere else is even close to what people in LA are facing. I recently went to NYC and Chicago and tried their subways and buses too. All I have to say is even they are much better than LA. California is a joke now.

I think homelessness occupying subways in NY, SF and LA could eventually destroy a city, if not solved soon. In SF, many stores in Market St have closed. Subway platforms are not deemed safe. Too bad, because trains are actually the solution to traffic and are the fastest way to go around any city. I heard SF spends a billion dollars for homeless people but it's just not working. NY is housing more of them but still not working. Homeless people need help but even the one being interviewed doesn't seem open to the idea of being housed somewhere else. Hmm, no solution?

Hang around sidewalk watching you, Just too lazy and druged I realized this the other day, I get hit by a truck tomorrow - a big truck could hit me - paralyze me from the neck down. Christ was homeless as a baby (manger). I think it’s time for all the tax-free churches to open their doors and actually act as Christ would want them to. But they won’t because there is no caritas anymore in this world. Yes I agree that addicts need to quit but where is the public mental health facility? What kind of child abuse leads to this tragedy? And most of all, if we don’t have compassion we are breaking a commandment, and see how the homeless addicts are pulling businesses, schools and everything else into their hell? The ones who won’t seek help can have their US citizenship revoked. For the love of God almighty, we need real tough love or America will break apart.

I believe why most homeless people are doing crazy, harmful behaviors is because they normally lost their own things which make them not to be normal. Even though we can also not help them to find out what they actually had at 'all' , but we may realize they were also kind, nice people before losing most things they owned.
