Metroid Zero Mission - Low% TAS -  

I'm still not sure how much it really does.

I guess it depends on what your doing, let's say that you must do a pixel perfect jump then it will help you but just running in a strait line nhaa not that much I guess. ;)

Tool-Assisted Speedruns can simply mean the player slowed down the game while playing and/or used save states. It can also mean that the inputs were "scripted out" and just played back into an emulator.

Kacper W missiles make it move faster but low% you need them for doors and what not

@@rutilantracer9116 You do. There are nine required items in Zero Mission: Morph Ball, one Missile Tank (Charge Beam Room), Bombs, Power Grip, Varia Suit, Ice Beam, and the three Unknown Items.

Varia Suit itself is optional in play, but it gets automatically added to your Items when you get the Gravity Suit in Chozodia, so unless you're legitimately going for a Low% WR, you may as well grab it in 15%.

@@wonderguardstalker What I said is you can get inside Tourian without the Ice Beam. But of course you can't progress further without it, because of the metroids and locked doors.

Technically you don't need to collect the varia suit, but if you don't it gets added to when you get the new power suit anyway so you might as well.

It's litterally the easiest area in the game...

It's TAS. Tool Assisted Super run (Speed run). This allows for people to do things that normal people can't do because of the limits of the game.

​@@BadFace97 I'm not sure myself, but the creator of the tas shot 3 missiles in a way where all 3 would hit at the same frame so that the i frames wouldn't get in the way.

Akwaz - for some reason I think there's some sort of check and if you don't have it the door remains locked. Something like that I could be wrong but I think in a gdq they said something along those lines. I'll check and get back to you

fancy josh I checked it out with a hack (on emulator) allowing me to jump on a edge (the one at 6:38) that's either impossible or very difficult to reach without de power gripp or TAS and there's actually one of those plant (that you can only destroy by using the tiny insects jumping and sticking on you) in the way (the kinda tunnel at 6:48) which prevents you to go to next room so you can't continue... this plant only disappears if you get the power gripp. I don't really understand why they did this but still that's why you must get the power gripp ^^

Akwaz - yeah I started up a fresh game and came across the same discovery it is odd all the upgrades you can opt out of getting but they make you get power grip, even though it isn't really necessary to beat the game. Helpful but not necessary.

While you can just bomb jump and wall jump instead of power gripping, the door to the main shaft in Norfair is blocked by one of the hives that you'd need bugs to chew through like in the room before Varia Suit, but there's no bugs. It vanishes when you collect Power Grip. tbh, I'd still prefer to get Power Grip because of some obnoxious bomb jumps. in particular acid worm skip would potentially make learning horizontal bomb jump mandatory for low%

Then again, in a non-TAS run of low% you can't skip the acid worm cause you need the zip line to be active so you can get through the room at 15:32 cause you're skipping the speed booster. You can try freezing the enemies and use them as platforms as seen in this TAS, but it's pretty much impossible in a non-TAS situation. So yeah, skipping the acid worm in low% is pretty much TAS-only.

okay so recently, samthedigital posted a video of doing hbj across the Rio pit. it's somewhat luck based if they freeze so it's not very useful outside of segmented, but it is doable on console

Really? That's probably the most famous sequence break in the game, aside maybe from early super missiles but still.

Jessica Garay ice beam is mandatory to beat the metroids

All unknown items are necessary because they block otherwise impassable paths. Ice beam is necessary for metroids. Power grip is necessary because the game enforces it, and also because most jumps would be impossible outside of TAS without it.

Yeah, this is truly low-percent :( I wish I could skip the power-grip, which I don't care for, or the unknown items, but you cannot. I do skip the ice-beam on my runs, but get locked inside Tourian with unkillable Metroids.

​@@RoastedMarshmelon thank god power grip is required to beat the game, it would've made platforming a bit more annoying if it didn't.

@@Red_Biker_Dude I think some of us Metroid players like to complicate things on purpose. I always tried to skip items just so I could "sequence-break". It means you have to do a lot of wall-jumps, bomb jumps, diagonal bomb jumps, etc. I stopped playing Metroid as I made it too challenging for myself and it wasn't fun.

There are possibly some moment when the game doesn't count time, such as in cutscenes, or maybe even something like the door transitions, I can't confirm this for sure, but it might be the cause.

That's literally the point of TASes, ok maybe it's not straight up using hacks, but still close enough
