I've said this so many times, but Quintana pitched much better during the season than most fans realize. He had ONE terrible outing in May that crushed his ERA. Then he had ONE terrible outing in August that turned back his progress on lowering his ERA. In those two starts, he gave up 15 runs in about 7 innings. In his other 30 or so starts on the season and post-season, he's pitched to an ERA right around 3.00. He's mostly been solid to good to great.
But his game is predicated on getting hitters to chase, which the Dodgers don’t do much, and he’s not a high strikeout guy. Not saying he won’t be successful, but it’s more complicated than simply pointing to a pitcher’s recent ERA and making predictions off of that.
[EDIT: Despite my worries, I should add that this team gives me 2019 Nats energy. So I definitely have hope-although I hope they can avoid 2020 Nats energy next year. 😆] I’m way less confident about this series than basically everyone here. I still think the rotation lacks the swing-and-miss stuff that you’d want against a team like the Dodgers. Also, the Dodgers don’t chase, and this bullpen issues WAAAAY too many walks. No team has ever won the World Series with a walk rate (relative to league average) as high as the Mets’. It’s their Achilles heel, and I’m worried it’ll be their fatal flaw. Plus, I like to keep my expectations low. So I’m expecting Dodgers in 6, which gives me a chance to be continue being pleasantly surprised, and avoid being disappointed. I didn’t expect the Mets to be playing competitive games in the second half, much less get to the NLCS. LGM!
I think If the Mets can step onto the Field like they are just continuing the last inning they played. Which was awesome, I believe they can gain the initiative and control the momentum. If they realize where they are now, they realize what they are capable of. I don't think there's too much in question.
Oh, one thing about the Dodgers only having one lefty in the bullpen: they added Brent Honeywell, Jr. to the roster, who is right-handed, but famously throws a screwball. So there’s that. He’s not a big strikeout guy, though, so they will miss Vesia and his 9000 inches of induced vertical break (seriously, that dude’s four-seamer is insane).
I think a 3-day break is better for them than it is bad, it’s not like it’s an entire week off plus you don’t want them to burn out but idk, I’m not a pro athlete nor athlete lol.
I'm putting that into my mind too. I think one hidden benefit is that the Mets could've probably immediately flown to SoCal and get acclimated to pacific time early since either way they would need to play in California first.
Baseball is not that hard that’s why they play 162 game season 😂 for some positions it’s harder but most of the time they just sit or stand in the field
Dodgers in 6 , it’ll be a good series but our team is to seasoned and hungry , we’ve overcome so much pitching wise and our lineup will put runs up on any pitcher, we’re getting to your bullpen I hope they are ready 🎉 💙💙💙 LFGD
@@matthewlane1343 better than acting like it’s your first time eveytime you make it! We know what it takes to win a WS you don’t ! Your just happy to be here 🤣 we own your starting pitchers Betts about to cash checks
@@matthewlane1343Listen to your fanbase. Many are already happy what the team has already accomplished. There will be complacency, and, especially when the team is down, they’re more likely to lay down. Let’s not go there with the disrespect so soon. The Mets are banking on momentum to keep them afloat. Let’s have a good series. Good luck.
@JumboJuneau guess it's a good thing fans don't play the game momentum? Yeah 4 and a 1/2 months of it but we'll see how it shakes out. Speaking of checks? Pete is hungry 🤑
McNeil has to play a lot. He has a 169 wRC+ vs. RHP in the 2nd half. Iglesias has 91 in the same. Marte, Taylor, Alvarez, Bader are all worst than that.
How are the Mets the hottest team going into the playoffs? The Padres, Dodgers and the Diamondbacks had a better record in the 2nd half leading into the playoffs.
I think a long series favors the Mets. The Dodgers' starting rotation is weak, consisting really of only Buehler and Yamamoto. The Dodgers overcame that weakness by pitching a bullpen game in Game 4 and Yamamoto stepping it up in Game 5. But this strategy I don't think will work over a 7-game series. Multiple bullpen games will eventually burn out the bullpen. The longer the series goes on, the more the bullpen will be taxed and eventually fail. A short series favors the Dodgers. But if the series goes long then the advantage goes to the Mets.
Mets DO NOT NEED to win game one to win this series so Met fans better not jump ship if they lose tonight . I don't even think they need to win game two , I have 100% confidence they will win in the end .
Mets fans sound like Dodger fans when Acuna/Betts were going at it. Just delusional thinking anyone other than the player that made history is winning MVP
All these people jumping on the Shohei Ohtani train, instead of rooting for their own players, seem totally brainwashed by the hype. It’s like they’ve forgotten what it means to support their team. Baseball isn’t just about one player-it’s about the love of the game and standing by your team. The obsession is getting out of hand.
@@Am0ment0fB This is a Mets pod, I'm not gonna convince anyone but I'll take the guy who made a larger impact without needing to touch the field defensively. I like Lindor and it's a cool narrative, especially if the Mets beat the Dodgers, but it's ridiculous to think anyone is winning it other than Shohei.
@@justkallmekai yeah because most don't understand the concept or watched enough to know. It's most valuable player. Not the best player. That's the difference. And, I for one, will never understand how a team that was going to finish first even without him and he only has to take four to five swings a game is more valuable. Plus, he isn't the face of the team like Lindor is. He's not giving the constant media assignments. Ha.
Well, that’s exactly what the Dodgers did. So that argument is not completely true. However, that pen will be spent. The Dodgers have to figure it out better. I expect Butane to come through. He’s coming back from Tommy John, but he’s a gamer, if there ever was one.
One of the nice things about being the road team in a 7 game series is that you can flip the script by winning one game early, but you really don't "have to" win one of those first two games. All the pressure is on the home team.
Padres lost Musgrove until 2026. That hurt them psychologically and talent wise. It is like if we lost Manaea for TJ surgery, in the 4th inning tomorrow.
Musgrove was the Padres 3/4 starter behind Cease, King and Darvish when he was healthy. He's a very good pitcher but not nearly as important as Manaea.
The Padres lost because their taunting fueled the Dodgers. The organization knows they owe it to the fans. The Padres can go after the Dodgers players, but taunting the fans was not a good idea. The Padres fanbase has never won anything so they’re ok condoning arrogance and unprofessionalism as long as their team wins, but that organization is immature from top to bottom because they want a rivalry with the Dodgers to sell tickets. What other reason for the Kershaw meme when his mom was in the hospital and passed away couple of weeks after.
Anyone else wish they record a little bit later, like after rosters are announced?More than half the stuff they talk about in this episode is irrelevant now.
Noting the payroll has nothing to do with being a naysayer. The point is the mets belong here in all ways, commenting or analyzing otherwise is dishonest
There really no point arguing about MVP because the consensus is Ohtani will win. I get it Linder had a great year, but there’s no point in going back and forth.
Whos narrative was do u even want the division anymore? Stupid fans? Not ONE MANAGER thinks or thought that ever. For what its worth 2/3 years of this format the American League went chalk to the Alcs
I am a sports fan, first and foremost. Mind you, the LAD offense has been cold, for example, this past series: Otani 4-20, Betts 4-18, Freeman 4-14 (hurt), Muncy 1-18, and Smith 2-16. So if these players remain cold, then NYM have a good shot. If they get hot, then the NYM need to respond and adjust. These four (4) teams remaining DESERVE to be here and as you both know, anything is possible in sports.
You will bury your head in the sand as the Dodgers once again can't get it done in October. Then reappear when they win the regular season again in '25 bravo... sweep 🤡
@@matthewlane1343 you see that right there is why i cant stand MUTTS fans. Dodgers are exactly where they need to be and right next to you. What are you talking about?....beat them firet. Then Talk.
