This part!!! People who know baseball know it’s the CATCHER who executes the pitching plan and defensive sets. Will Smith’s game 4 was absolutely dazzling and something the most casual fans will overlook
@@luisarias7778 Catchers are essentially the quarterbacks on the field. The call all of the pitches for the pitcher and shift the defensive sets. If you have a good catchers, they manage the game and give you the best chance to win. Double that if they can hit well
@@luisarias7778 The announcers never make mention of it and tend to give the pitchers and hitters all of the credit. Like that play in the outfield? The catcher probably positioned the fielder there. Like those flashy double plays? The catcher likely called for a specific pitch that would result in a ground ball and set the shift so the infielder could turn the double play. Ever wonder why a ball gets hit into an area where nobody is at? Yeah, that’s most likely the catcher’s fault as well
As a die-hard Dodger fan I have so much respect for Darvish,he pitched a gem and the Padres 😅well they ran into a Dodger bull-pen tired of hearing people say they suck.
Darvish always seems to be the victim. He got cheated in the WS when the Astros stole his signs with Cameras, and he has gotten zero run support in many of his starts since then. It seems that when he takes the mound, his team doesn't think they have to score. This goes back to 2013 with the Rangers. He lost 8 games that season, of his 9 losses where his team scored 2 runs or fewer. He lost an MLB record 5 games 1-0. By all means, he was a 20+ game winner that season, he should've gone 22-3 with how well he pitched.
@@cmays209 I thought so too but as you know the AssHoles were using cameras to steal signs. We win the WS if not for that. He was robbed. We ALL were.
Ohtani was certainly shut down, but he has never hit off Darvish. The Mets dont have a pitching staff like the Padres and I'd be willing to bet his performance improves
Ohtani was 4 for 20 man can we just be truthful when someone doesn’t play well like Mookie last season. For real he isn’t a God he didn’t even lead MLB in homers, average, RBI’s, OPS, SB NONE OF IT. Kike is better postseason player than Ohtani even tho it’s only been 5 games for real. Ohtani better kill the Mets like Judge better kill the Guardians. Not elite players if they can never do it in October only elite regular season players up until now.
If he was that Good we would have Beat the Astros & WON the World Series in 2017.. Im still not over that. Glad he’s on the Padres tho. We didn’t need him.
I agree... Machado I do not respect... he is full of mierda... and too much of himself, glad he is going home and sitting watching the Dodgers move on... he talked trash and threw a ball at the Dodgers dugout and stuff.... now he is back Quiet where he belongs
To hold the that lethal Padres line-up to 0 runs in 24 innings straight is insane. People can't say the Dodgers don't have pitching. They completely shut down a top 5 line-up.
@@ivanvalentin3898lmao the dodgers swept those mets earlier this season. The mets starters are average at best. Beside lindor the mets don’t have anyone that scares any1. Their luck is running out
it's crazy how consistent the Dodgers have been the last decade. 12 consecutive post season appearances and the most wins in baseball. hopefully it transpires into a WS title this year.
@@BobbyM817 2020 was a legit championship. but lemme ask you this simple question, who's your team.? i ask because i guarantee you, if your team won it all in 2020 you'd be ok with it.
Tim Kurkjian: "I'm not sure there's a way to slow Shohei Ohtani down." Shohei Ohtani in the NLDS: .200 BA, 10 Ks, 1 HR. This is why no one takes ESPN seriously anymore.
Dodger fans do not take the Mets lightly. Alonso has series altering power. Lindor a true five tool player, Vientos and Acuna are young stars. Nimmo an extremely underrated hitter. 5 legit starters with Senga, Manaea, Petersen, Quintana, Severino. Edwin Diaz rounding back into form. Out of those starters Three of them lefties (Muncy is gonna suck this series) Gonna be alot harder to hide the Starting pitching in a seven game series than a five game series. Freeman is still day to day with his injury. Need A big Will Smith series. Yoshi needs to keep doing what he did last night. LETS GET OHTANI RING NUMBER ONE. #ITFDB

@@don9733 we’re about to find out in about 24 hours game one starts! If you think you guys are going to walk through the Mets, you’re on drugs… Philadelphia Phillies thought they were gonna walk through the Mets. Ask them how that worked out.
@@Joe-j1f every series is different, phillies series has no barring on this 1. I didn’t say it will be easy but im saying the mets will lose. Their starters are average at best, they will come back to earth
@@don9733 your starters are trash! You have one good starter! Now Viesta (sp?) is out that’s big! That is one less arm in the circle of trust and considering how much you guys are going to be in this bullpen that’s a huge loss! Mets in 6
@@Joe-j1f u have a bunch of rejected SP, no one wanted them thats why they ended up with the mets. They played over their head in phillies series but it is over now they will be back to earth. Even a struggling buechler is better than all of them. Fact u don’t know vesia is a RP show u know nothing about dodgers pitching. Dodgers will score they will move on….save my post and come back to it once it all done lol
You know what's the underrated key in the Dodgers win? WILL SMITH. Anyone that knows baseball know that the catchers are the one calling for the type of pitch and defensive sets against the hitters. He may have not have his hot bat in the NLDS. But he was definitely the quarterback in the field. 24 shutout innings is insane. Props also to Will Smith.
Don’t get all bent out of shape… Tim is discussing the Mets-Dodgers matchup in NLCS and Ohtani’s past performance against the Mets… listen again, he didn’t said one word about Ohtani’s performance against the Padres
It’s not about who you play but when you play them. We just played a hot team and we are playing another hot team. Feeling pretty good about our chances in beating the Mets.
He didn’t bat .700, but his game 1 home run most likely saved the series/season. If you’re a Dodger fan you can’t tell me you weren’t thinking here we fuxking go again before he hit that…I’m as die hard as they get and it was creeping into my head. Outside the bomb he was average. Yu dominated him, but he’s one of the best pitchers in the world and has been for 15 yrs. I don’t know how anybody ever hits him. He can throw 7-8 pitches for strikes, has a 25 mph span between pitches, it’s incredible. Him, Peralta and Merril are the only ones I have any sympathy for. The most hated player in the league got what he deserved, and the kid in the prime of his career that decided to cheat got his too. I’m glad this rivalry actually has some teeth now, and I’m glad that I can almost always be proud to be a Dodger fan. One of the most important organizations in the pro sports world for decades for many reasons outside of winning. I’m no bandwagoner. But it’s awesome to see our fan base grow bigger and bigger every year. And to those embarrassing fans that can’t handle their booze. Watch from home, plz. We had 4 million people plus attend games this yr, but you idiots make us all look bad… Last thing,Padre organization….Stop preventing Dodger fans from purchasing playoff tix every time we play at Petco….Youve relied on us for yrs for your largest reg season crowds, shutting us out is Bush league, and you never know, 150 random shell companies may open in San Diego next yr and just buy up allll your tix. @@jinwanc we shall see he had better or he’s going to be scrutinized. Cause this title makes no sense considering the padres literally shut him down lol
Ohtani is bridging the friendship between Korea and Japan. As a Korean, we have a dark history of experiencing slavery, forced labor, Unit 731 by Japanese colonialists in WW2, which the Japanese denies and has never apologized to this day. But despite this, we acknowledge Ohtani in Korea. I am glad how we can all be united in sports.
731 were not colonialists. They were just scientists and doctors. Slavery or forced labor happens eveywhere in war. Lots of Japanese also experienced in Russia. Anyway, you should keep those anti-Japan out of sports and MLB. Ohtani is an athlete, he has nothing to do with war. Although his WAR is off the charts.
I'm as big a Shohei fan as they come, but if holding him to 2 for 15 in Games 2-5 isn't considered slowing him down then we need to redefine some terms. Or is this an LA overinflation thing when say, Kobe Bryant starts a game 1 for 10, then continues to shoot 19 more shots, finishing 2 for 29 and that's considered "clutch" in some backwards dimension?
I agree 100%!! You would have a difficult time slowing down a part time player! Sitting on the bench while full time players are doing what they’re supposed to do on defense, isn’t very exhausting, so he would’ve full of energy! Not MVP material.

Didn’t Shohei go 0 for 4 in game 5 and was completely useless? Ohtani is quickly becoming the Patrick Mahomes of the MLB. Protect the golden boy at all costs ESPN. 😂
ESPN is showing how clueless they are in baseball. All their "experts" predicted the madres would move on, so wrong. Now they're praising Ohtani, he has been completely MIA. Stick to basketball ESPN 😂
