Jose Quintana suffered the worst outing of his career allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs in the Mets 10-8 loss to Tampa Bay. New York rallied to get within 9-7 but the comeback fell short. On the bright side, Brett Baty had a breakout game offensively going 3-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI.

Typical when the bats are quiet we get great pitching, when they come to life and hammer the ball the pitching stinks by just throwing down the middle of the plate.

That's what to expect from him. He would be a fifth starter on most teams. He is not a number 1 - 4 starter.

I'm not crazy about Quintana. He couldn't help the Mets win this game with 8 runs of offense? He's just not a steady force on the mound. He pitches a good game then gets clobbered. The Mets scored 8 runs; Baty smashed 2 home runs. They have to win this game straight up and down. They moved Houser out of the rotation. I'm telling you I am not big on Quintana. If I found out that Mendoza cut him, traded him, sold him for cash considerations or sent him to the minors or something, I would not be unhappy at all. Not at all would I be. I actually don't want him as part of the Mets rotation. If Mendoza, Stearns, Cohen and the Mets want to start winning games that they should be winning and climbing on top of this 500 mark, they have to get rid of the weak links. Hey, bring up Kranick and let him take Quintana's spot. You want to win? You gotta make moves like you've been making. Set Kranick loose and see what he can do. Call up Megil if not Kranick but I want to see Kranick. I have a feeling that he knows how to pitch. Some moves you gotta make fast. I think this is another one of them. No weak links especially if there are better or stronger links that you can replace them with. The Mets should be able to score 3-5 runs and win games, to score 8 or more and lose should be inexcusable with the type of pitching staff that they should have. The pitching staff needs to be tightened up with some stronger pieces. You want to give Houser a shot in the bullpen? Ok but if he's not strong, then get em outta there and call up Tidwell. I want him outta there now and Tidwell in. And get Quintana outta there. You have pieces in the minor leagues. Stronger pieces. It's time to leave 500 behind.

Even more, they should have the kind of pitching staff where if they score 1,2,3 runs, to the other teams and their fans it feel like 10,12,13 runs.

Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit but you know what I mean. Any of the other starters would have won this game. Kranick would have probably pitched 6-7 shut out innings.
