The sounds of those horses hooves on the cobblestones was like a trip back in time. I enjoy your “waffling on” very much especially after the hellish freeze we just survived here in Texas. Such fun and such a relief to be able to escape through your channel to London and see these sights.

Hi Hannah . I so hope to visit London someday . In NYC - so many of the grand old homes have been torn down - but their garages and carriage houses left for nice living spaces .By the way...bits and bobs have become my favorite new expession 😉

I just loved seeing the mews houses. I never really knew what a mews house was exactly until you explained it. I love poking around houses and gardens. The architecture in London and in Europe in general just fascinates me! I love to see things that are soooo old and have stood the test of time. So often we are in a rush to get rid of the old and replace it with something so generic; no character at all. We did that in Boston with City Hall. Displaced a whole neighborhood of people to build what is considered the ugliest building in Boston-probably all Massachusetts! Yes,the area was run down but instead of improving it we ruined it. Now talk is we need to "pretty up" City Hall !! Thanks so much Hannah for your walks! I love them !

Oh that mauve mews with the green shutters definitely has my name on it! I’m thinking that the folk who used to live and work in those places would be very shocked indeed to see the current prices! I used to live on Stanhope Gardens SW7 and my flat looked over Stanhope Mews which I LOVED! Wish I was back there again!

Mews houses are interesting. Leave it to developers to recognize the value in an old beat-up stable or garage and turn it into real estate gold. Like they say, it’s all in location. I want to have a view of the sky and ocean. Coastal properties were affordable in some rural areas, but not anymore. Thanks for the walk and yes, the sun was great. London weather and Boise weather are alike in some respects. We tend to be cold and dry. I want to try some of the food. You’ll have to stop for a picnic bag to take to some interesting park area for an afternoon nosh with us. Lol. Take care, Hannah. 😊💕🇺🇸

I just love your vlogs, Hannah. Those mews houses are absolutely stunning but a few (well, all of them) are so expensive! Don't even want to think what the "proper" big houses out the front of them are going for. And what a treat, seeing those horses living in the mews stables. Please keep doing all your walking tours - I live in Perth, Western Australia, and seeing all the different sights in London and all the fantastic architecture is such a pleasure.

I cam to London in 2017 and stayed in Sussex Gardens! I fell in love with Notting Hill and Covent Garden areas but appreciated the walk along Hyde Park to Oxford St etc. Would love to go back xo

You are correct about Mews houses, but Westbourne Terrace Mews are purpose built 1950’s houses, so not typical Mews properties. I would guess German bombs did for the original Mews properties built for the houses at the front.

Mews houses super cute but you don’t get a lot for your money they appear to be tiny also parking might be a problem another great walk your sunglasses are they cheap ones that don’t get stuck in your hair may I ask were I might find them stay safe stay beautiful ❤️

I stayed in London for a week many years ago and one of the things I loved are all the little winding cobble stone streets. Here in NYC there Mews houses also and only the very rich can afford to buy them, but it's fun to dream. Thanks for the tour.

Hey Hannah, the mews houses are different colours because back in the day when the residents came home drunk they knew their house by the colour so they didn’t go to the wrong house as they all looked alike It will also be in the deeds what colour the house has to be PS love the vlogs 👍

Back in the 1980's, I was invited to dinner at a Mews house in Pimlico. Due to some restrictions on the building's use, the "garage/stables" bit had to be kept available to house a vehicle. But it was also the dining room, so there were pegs on the walls that held chairs, the bones of a table, and a Persian carpet. When entertaining, the carpet came down on to the bare floor, the table was assembled and enough chairs to seat everyone were taken off the pegs. I recall that two bicycles -- also mounted on pegs -- were left suspended above the proceedings. My recollection is that the owners didn't even have a car, but had to maintain the fiction that the space was a garage.

Smallbrook Mews would have to be my favourite. I’m amazed there are still some unconverted ones, it’ll be interesting to see if they can be developed. I see what you mean about some of them being overlooked by newer buildings, definitely wouldn’t be so keen on that!

I love seeing the mews around London. I'd seen a few before but I didn't know they were so expensive! I agree with you about sage colored ones. But green is my fav color so that makes sense. Thanks for another picturesque tour!

I always wondered what mews were, now I know!! If the mews houses are that expensive how much are the houses behind them?!! Amazing! Just thinking about the history of where you are boggles my mind! Hannah, if you want to do the mews' in Belgravia when lockdown's over you could combine it with the Waitrose with the great architecture on Motcomb St. I will do an obligatory boring history fact, the word mews originally comes from falconry. Mews comes from the French word 'muer' which means to change because birds were kept there whilst they were moulting. Henry VIII's mews burned down and was rebuilt as a stable but they kept the name mews and that's why they became stable blocks. In response to Hannah's question about deeds; one of the major benefits of mews houses is that, very unusually for central London, you get a freehold, so there are fewer rules than usual. Also, because they were never listed buildings, you get a much more free hand with conversions than you normally would. There's definitely competition regarding whose got the nicest plants. Bathurst Mews, the lovely one with the horses, is famous for being the friendliest in London with coffee mornings etc. OK, back to Hannah, she's way more fun to be around than I am.

Mews living would be claustrophobic for me as I love wide open spaces. Pretty and super expensive as I think they start at around 2 million and that's pounds lol. Hi from Canada

Nice walk through the Mews; a very pleasant day out there

I do like your walk around the mews cottages. They add to the variety of properties you find in the centre. And London mews tend to be as expensive as semi and detached houses outside the London area.

Hannah I’m loving this vlog, Mews houses are the ultimate dream for city living, I’m like you I love that grey green colour, and lots of baskets of greenery. What’s not to love.

Also a tip you might not guess lots of London Mews properties only have retained the front wall of the “Original” building, so basically a new house built behind the original facade.

Mews are my favourite too. I believe one of the reasons they are so sort after and expensive is because they have less laws on keeping the historical architecture. Most of them are very modern inside.

Love the mews, my favourite is the pink one with those glass bricks. My sister used to live in Stoke Newington. I haven't been to London for approx 25years.
