I talked to a host when I was at Aria in May and it was eye-opening. 1. If possible, he said to charge everything to your room (restaurants, gift shop items, drinks, etc.). That way you automatically get all of the resort-spend points possible (and if you pay your final bill with an MGM Reward card you'd get the extra points too I assume - I don't have a casino credit card). 2. I realized that there is literally no way you can predict or figure out how many tier credits you'll earn gambling. It is a black-box formula that involves machine played, average bet, time played, etc. One thing he did tell me is that "themed slots" give less tier credits (e.g. playing an hour on a Wizard of Oz./Monoploy machine will give you less than an hour on a Planet Moolah/Stinkin' Rich machine with the same bet sizes). 3. Finally, and this is screwed up, they track play in 24-hour chucks. For example, say you have a $900 gambling budget for a 3-day trip. Theoretically, you will actually get more tier credits and future offers if you gambled all $900 on one day than if you split it up and gambled $300/day. I have no idea how they track that (How do they know the difference between a "new" $100 vs $100 that came from a winning ticket that you cashed in?) , but I'm sure with your reward card they have algorithms that can figure all that out. Great video as always!
Thanks for sharing this! I had heard that about them averaging your slot play over the number of days. I believe each day starts over at 12am so they would track using your players card. And $100 ticket counts the same as $100 cash since it’s all considered coin-in.
Hey Blake! 1. We agree that it's easiest to charge everything to your room and yes, you would get the extra points using the credit card on your MGM folio charges. Unfortunately, that rarely works for us because we aren't usually staying at MGM when we go to their restaurants. If we're at Cosmo, we can only charge back Bellagio and Aria food. 2. We've recently done some experimenting with how many points we get on our slot play. Very interesting that themed slots earn less - we did not know that! Maybe we'll experiment with that next time we're in Vegas. 3. That's just annoying. We always divide our bankroll evenly for each day of our trip. The amount we play depends on how well we're doing. We'll never change that for their 24-hour tracking. I wonder how they apply extra tier credits based on daily spend, though. In our experience, the points are applied almost instantly - we track this in our app as we're playing. So, maybe, once you hit a certain daily spend amount, they up the # of reward and tier credits for each $1 you wager? Then, if you hit another spend level, they increase it again? Hmmm. Lots to think about. As if they haven't made it confusing enough...
It's not money spent it's coin in they want you to cycle Is that whole $900 through the machine That doesn't mean spend it. They care about your theoretical spend Not your actual spend.
Yes this is a total bummer. I doubt I'll reach gold again, especially after all the changes they made to the program. And now losing the Hyatt match really hurts.
@@TheMidlifeRide everything is moving to Marriott now with certain resorts. Not all resorts are going to Marriott. I play with M Resort and the Strat that way I know my points and its not based on how long you play or which denom or which game.

Awesome content as usual and extremely informative. For use we have been leaning towards MGM over Caesars the last few years, but of late, we have gotten alot more out of our Grazie Rewards at The Venetian. Worth a video possibly imo
We’re starting to think sticking with 1 individual property, rather than these big groups, is the better way to go. That’s Cosmo for us, until they get swallowed up by MGM. Once that happens, we might have to branch out and work a program like Grazie.
Whoa 😳!!! I’ll just take one of those drinks you’re making while you hold … to show my support, of course😂🥃 !! Cathryn, your determination is second to none, my friend👍👍👍🥰❤️!
I was happy with my comps for March Madness, I got about half off the rooms on the busiest week of the year and then $200 back for my play at the end of the trip, although I played more than normal as most of the blackjack tables' minimum was $50.
MGM has amazing comps, in our opinion. When we played primarily at Caesars properties and had the Caesars credit card, we got nothing from them. It was MGM that was sending us all the deals, even though we had very little spend with them. That’s why we decided to focus more on MGM.
I haven't been to an MGM since they changed reward program, downtown is where my interests lie now, free rooms for little play. And no resort fees if it is free!
@@TheMidlifeRide All of them will send offers if you play at least a few hours. I get offers from the D even though I last played there in 2019. Circa and Golden Nugget also send offers.
In my recent experience, I think MGM has further lowered how many tier you earn per their "theoretical loss" calculations. Last year, I played less on my 2 trips and still earned 125k tier. This trip in June, I played more and longer, and lost the most I ever have at Aria and only earned 25k tier. I don't understand what is going on, the host on duty wouldn't take off $100 in room charges.
Yeah, it’s definitely more difficult to earn tier credits now than in the past. Maybe we’ll need to wait and book our trips around their tier credit multiplier promotions.
25k tier credits if earned entirely on play (assuming no accelerators or points from purchases), is $3125 in theoretical loss. That would make you eligible for $625 - $937 in comps depending on your host or seniority of person reviewing your folio end of trip. If your comped room + limo ride is already higher than that, don’t expect any more backend comps. If you paid for your own rooms, then $100 in room charges should have been comped if it was food & bev, spa, or other resort charges (excluding merchandise or anything from gift shop).
@@tomle2600 we had over $11k coin-in at MGM last year. We’ve never had a host or any personalized comp offers. We were Gold by matching from Cosmo, so we used our standard comps, no resort fees. We’ve never been eligible for the elite tiers that get limos and dinners, etc.
@@tomle2600 The only problem with the calculation of the theoretical loss is that nobody knows what that formula is. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence as I have found posts online of people, which they state, sat for 4 hours playing the same bet and then calculated it that way. But it was also noted that particular types of machines with different denoms all were different. So there is really no way, that I have found online, that is a reliable measure of theoretical loss.
I got a hold of m g m and they were very nice they ( july 12 th) After a little himmy and hawning they awarded they status matched from explorist to gold. So all of those hoops I jumped through is going to expire july thirty first before I even get a chance to use it. That's beautiful
They’ve gone back and forth so many times, we won’t really know until it happens. Fingers crossed that they either extend the date again or let people keep their status at least until February when tier credits reset.

@@DaveMartinez-o1s Your Gold status doesn’t expire July 31st, 2023. It expires January 31st, 2024 if you matched via the Hyatt program. The only programs that are expiring July 31st, 2023 are tier matches from other casinos. This is straight from the MGM website regarding the Hyatt partnership. Will my resort fees be waived if I tier matched into MGM Rewards Gold? World of Hyatt members who tier matched into MGM Rewards between February 1, 2023 and July 14, 2023, will receive their tier match status through January 31, 2024. It’s easy to figure the tier credit per game. Just do 1 spin and remove your card and check your rewards account balance. Or track your spins based on slot dollars earned - check your session SD before you remove your players card. The tier credits are so much easier to earn now than before, especially with the accelerators.
We’ve done that but haven’t analyzed the data yet. You’re definitely in the minority thinking that tier credits are easier to earn now. Accelerators definitely help if you’re lucky enough to be at a casino while the promotions are running. We rarely are, unfortunately.
You shouldn't have to stand in line to get MGM reward credits for when you eat at restaurants in the various MGM hotels. As long as your MGM rewards card/member number is tied to your room reservation, just charge your meals to your room and you will get the points. Bottom line, if you stay at MGM hotels often enough, spend some money at the resort through eating and gambling, you will get some nice comp/discounted offers regardless of whether or not you are a high roller.
That’s correct. We said “unless you’re charging to your MGM room or dining at an MGM-owned establishment…” We do get decent comps with MGM, 1-4 nights depending on the property. But, we only used them when we didn’t have to pay resort fees.
Yeah The MGM is doing great, it's obvious to see they don't care about the current MGM Rewards Members. MGM Rewards also Ends Relationship With World of Hyatt. They doing exact the same as Caesars did just after the pandemic 😢
Nice to hear from you, TJ! Yeah, our options are getting fewer and fewer with all these changes. We’ve even noticed changes with Cosmo-reduced comp nights, higher upgrade fees and room rates.
Its true they don't want peasantry around the ruling class. Please understand they hate you and don't want anyone making under 250k per year. Understand why because you are the worker.
Maybe we’ll have to start carrying our income documentation around. Then, they can round up all the low-rollers, put us on a bus, and send us to the outlying local casinos.
@TheMidlifeRide They just give your money to the ruling class and keep you out of the real casino floors. It's fun for them to gangstalking on vacation to ruin it for you.
@@TheMidlifeRide They actually treat the 24 year olds from Los Angeles who don’t gamble. I’m bewildered. I sat next to a group of 4 22-24 years old, each had 3 nights comped plus $200 in food and beverage and free slot play. When I asked what’s their budget for losing, they replied $100. WHAT are we doing wrong? Also, as a Platinum, I can’t get a limousine pick up at the airport, what gives?
I feel so weird defending MGM, but here goes. I obtained both the Caesar's & MGM credit card about 5 years ago to get free parking (I always bring my car.) All of Caesar's (except Rio) now charges me for parking $18 M - Th, $23 F, S, Sun, INCLUDING ME!!! Caesar's dropped this card benefit around 12/31/21. While I did stay at The Excalibur 1/2022 and used MGM credit card then, I almost never use the card, BUT STILL ENJOY FREE PARKING. FWIW the absolute worst rewards program are Caesar's and Resorts World. They cancel / expire all points every six months. I'm sure there are people out there that can prove me wrong on this, but ...
We totally agree that Caesar’s Rewards is the worst. I’ve never understood why people staying at the hotels have to pay for parking, but it’s disappointing to hear that you can no longer get free parking unless you are Platinum or above. Their credit card is also the worst. Horrible customer service (they’re nice but they never follow through) and the perks aren’t great. I could be wrong, but your points shouldn’t expire unless you have no activity within 6 months. We don’t use the credit card regularly anymore, but I’ll make a purchase every few months just to keep our points. We’ve started spending all our points on restaurants and gambling and we’ll likely close the card once we get through them. We’ve only been to Resorts World once and if their rewards program is that bad, I have no desire to return.

I am really not interested in playing these MGM games, nor the Ceasers games anymore. Seems they really are trying to get rid of the low spenders and bring the whales back. Not like they are already rolling in billions, but they want the high rollers back. This, right after spending the past 2 years transforming Vegas into sports and concert residencies town, which brings throngs of the younger demographic who don't even care about how to use the comp system. They are the ones that come for a concert or a game, making Vegas feel like a party town now. The younger demographic are not the big gamblers, they are not the big spenders. Guess what MGM and Ceasers, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Now you are making it so the loyal Vegas customer, who have been coming for years, and have been treated with great customer service, not want to come visit anymore. People are angry. More of us need to just stop spending a dime at properties who no longer treat customers right. Trying to shuffle the budget end, low spending people out and bring back the high rollers? You are doing a great job of alienating everyone. Time for people to take their business off the strip to properties who know how to treat customers the way they used to be treated. Greed is gonna get these properties. It is all about greed at this point. I hope they have marketing people monitoring the You Tubers who are posting videos about the madness the properties are pulling. Heck there isn't even housekeeping anywhere now. Not going to hold my breath for a good comp program to come back. They are making it impossible to meet the insane quotas of dollars spent to even qualify. When I get off a customer service phone call, I am completely convinced they truly do not care!
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. We agree. It's frustrating and disappointing. We save up our hard-earned money to visit Vegas and, while it's small potatoes compared to the high-rollers/big-spenders, it's a significant portion of our vacation/entertainment budget. And, yes, we all have the option to take our money where it's appreciated. That's why we've made it a point to visit some local casinos - Emerald Island being our favorite so far. We've heard there are plans for them to get a hotel and when that happens, we might just spend the week out in Henderson and take a day trip to the strip!
Great advanced info. I have a newbie question. When your Gold status can you still get hotel rooms with waived resort fees even during the summer months?
Would not play at a mgm casino as I am a video poker player poor pay tables, slots I guess it does not matter much.Last straw for me I ordered a Stella beer, said I was not high enought card level but I could have a Budweiser.Gee thanks!cant wait to play at your bar again!
We prefer VP over slots, too, but VP earns the least amount of rewards and tier credits of anything. And, it seems they are getting rid of more and more VP machines every time we go. We used to spend almost of our days at Cromwell when they had the 9/6 JOB. Then, they moved to NYNY. No idea where they are now on the strip. We can only find them downtown and some local casinos. Where do you like playing VP the most? Which variations and denoms?
Great rewards program. Work the promos. It 5x for July and August plus 3x using MasterCard. They ran a 9x at the end of last year. Chance’s are good, they’ll run it again. The comps wouldn’t be as good as they are if it was easy.
They sent us the email about the multiplier promotion right before our last trip and it wasn’t starting until a week after we left. We’ve never been lucky enough to be there when a promotion was running. Maybe someday!
Blossom (best Chinese restaurant ever!) at Aria will add points directly to your MGM Rewards players card for you when you dine. They always have and still do. as of our visit 2 days ago. We visit monthly.
We’re kinda hoping the rewards programs stay separate. We actually have a shot at earning Gold at Cosmo and it’s really the only hotel we care about. There’s just too much spend required to get it at MGM for us.
@@TheMidlifeRide it’s literally the only hotel I care about too in fact I’m going there this weekend .I have the mgm rewards card too that I used to use all the time expecting to be able to use it for Cosmo but still can’t so I’ve switched to using other cards lately because I’m like what is the point. I’m Diamond plus and prime on Royal Caribbean and they match gold status I wonder if this will change also. I’m booked for September at nyny and wanted the free parking and no resort fee
You should be good to go with Caesars Diamond Plus, but if they aren’t matching status when you go, you might be out of luck. Did you already get your Gold status match with MGM? If so, we’d appreciate you letting us know if it changes in August like the website suggests.
So confused. I got Hyatt Globalist status thru Bilt Mastercard challenge. Matched status with MGM. And booked stays at Bellagio and Luxor for for nights in August. I have gold status. But I’m not sure that ends now? With gold I was gonna have resort fees waived. Now I have no clue if that’s the case anymore because they are dissolving the hyatt/mgm partnership.
Agreed. It’s all confusing. Looks like the Hyatt-MGM partnership isn’t ending until September 30. So, if the MGM website and rep are wrong and you don’t lose your Gold status on August 1, you should be good to go. I am skeptical about that information. It doesn’t make sense for them to allow status matches up until July 31 only to take it away on Aug 1. I’m hoping that is a misprint and that people will be able to keep their status through January. Time will tell. Please let me know what happens with your status in August.
I am in the same boat you are. Did the same challenge got my status match to gold? Only if you find out later that day that they ended the relationship

@@SleeplessInLasVegas it’s pretty decent for points. However, just so you know… the rewards points you earn using the card go directly into your Slot Dollars account. They told me you can go to the Rewards Desk to have them convert into points that can be used on rooms, restaurants, etc.
I will reach Gold Again this year based mostly on my gambling. I also remain loyal to MGM properties, meaning that I only gamble at MGM properties. If you spread your play thin all over Vegas you're not maximizing your rewards program. Caesars hasn't changed their program in years. It's still $5 coin in. For both programs, it doesn't mean you have to keep adding money to the slot machine. Points keep accumulating as you cycle through each spin. The ambiguity of MGMs program is a bit ridiculous. I don't get how they get away with that. It's not transparent at all. I wonder How auditors sign off on it? MGM has just completed a deal with Marriott. Not sure how Marriott rewards will tie in with MGM like Hyatt did, but if you are a Marriott frequent visitor, you may be able to turn your Marriott rewards into some comp nights at MGM.
That’s great that you earn enough gambling with MGM to reach Gold status. We understand the concept that coin-in includes all spins, not just the amount you put in the machine. Unfortunately, we don’t win very many spins, so what we put in may very well be all the coin-in we get credit for! The only shot we have with MGM is during a tier credit multiplier promotion, but they usually aren’t running when we’re there. Yeah, it’s pretty unbelievable that they can just keep the earnings rate under wraps. Gives them an awful lot of flexibility because no one can check accuracy of points credited or question them about it. We did a little tracking on our last trip and will try to see if there’s a pattern or formula once we analyze the data. Thanks for watching and commenting:)
This year I have wagered more than the whole of last year - last year I made Gold (got just over 80,000 points). This year not even achieved 30,000 points Massive change in their structure and clearly targeting the bigger guys. N
Yeah, we never even tried before because we assumed we couldn't get any status with MGM. Now, it seems like our only chance has gone right out the window with their previous reward structure. Are you planning to move your spend to a one-off, local or smaller group? Caesars and MGM clearly don't need or want our business.
We probably get the same emails as most people. The deals we see are up to 4 nights. That’s at Luxor and Excalibur and usually includes $50 F&B credit and $10FP. The other properties range from 0-3 comp nights. I don’t think we’ve ever received any personalized offers with MGM.

Yes, you must have dined at one of the 400 participating restaurants on the list. Apparently, we’ve somehow avoiding them. Some we’ve been to, but have charged to our room on those occasions.
I just got back from Vegas today 7-26-23 we got the MGM Mastercard and got bumped up to pearl. The free parking was cool but the resort fees were brutal. After watching your video I’m wondering if I made the right choice. Is it even possible to get gold status? I’m gonna have to spend a fortune. Is there a faster hack to gain status? Someone please help 😂
Oh, it’s definitely possible to get Gold and definitely easier if you’re using your Mastercard for everything. Like we mentioned in the video, it would take like $11k in MGM purchases to get there. Subtract the amount you spend on everyday purchases @1 credit per $1 and the amount you spend on gas/groceries @2 credits per $1 and you’ll have a good idea of whether or not it’s possible for you. Without MGM resort spend, the most it would cost is $37500 in gas/groceries. Without the gas/groceries (and no MGM spend) you’d need to spend $75k annually on the card. Sure, we’ll get right on that! 😂 Definitely NOT worth it if your annual spend isn’t there normally. We have heard of other ways to achieve it, especially now with the Marriott partnership, but haven’t researched how much that would cost or how it works exactly. Hopefully someone will speak up and give us some other options:)
If I have to spend that kind of money for tier status, I might as well pay for the room I want and take enough money to eat and have a great time. It would probably be way less than spending 75k for gold. Especially if we aren’t traveling to Vegas very often.
Last question, since I just got the MGM master card, will my status end at the beginning of the year? Do I have to meet a certain number of tier points to keep my pearl status? Or do I get a full year of my pearl status on the date I received the MGM credit card?
@@benjaminsamano6406 There's no earnings requirement to remain Pearl. Their terms & conditions state: "MGM Rewards Tier will remain at least Pearl Status as long as your account remains open and in good standing."
They gutted the MGM Rewards program for everyone that isn't a penny slot addict. They only give 4x on hotel spending now rather than the 25x they use to give. Everything is now based on theo lost for gambling so you get almost nothing for table games and video poker. As for using your MGM card for all your household spending, that's moronic. You should just use a fee-free card that gives you 2% cash back or more.
We agree that the MGM rewards program isn’t what it used to be. And a cash back card might make sense for some people but we’d rather have points and $$$ that are specifically allocated to having fun on vacation. Otherwise, the money might be spent elsewhere and we’d feel as though we’re spending more out-of-pocket during our trips. You do whatever makes the most sense for you!
We would stay downtown but we haven’t gotten any comp offers since we stayed at El Cortez. Probably because we casino hop too much. Might need to pick a favorite casino down there and stick to it.
Yeah, and when we had to show our receipts and card to get points added, they seemed a little too eager to take away my Gold card and replace it with Pearl.
@TheMidlifeRide no it's true you need at least 1k for average bet size to even be considered. You need to be gambling with at least 100k for your bankroll.

Anyways have fun basing your happiness on your hotel card status sounds healthy to me!
MGM now owns Cosmo. So, there may not be much you can do with the Cosmo reward program. That said, MGM just partnered up with the Marriott. We will need to wait to see the details. MGM MC and charging everything to your room are the way ro go. I spent about the same amount of money gambling (tracked by coin-in, dont play table games at MGM as their min is too high even on a weekday morning or afternoon) last year and this year and there is about a 8,000 difference in reward points. Big corp greed. Nothing we common folks can do about it. Try matching at HardRock. I got pretty good deal. They matched my MGM to their program and gave me $100 for dinner.
Crossing our fingers that they don’t combine Identity and MGM rewards for a while, if ever! We’ve heard similar reports that last year’s gaming $ went a lot further in elevating status than this year. What status do you have with MGM that was matched at Hard Rock?
