This is really beautiful. Drum sound reminds me of an orphan of fortune. The best part about this song is the genius lyrics. The bubblegum dog is clearly a symbol for the truth. Mgmt (characters at least) literally running from the truth after they asked the bubblegum dog to “tell (them) what the truth is.” And the once you get that everything falls into place. Fear and “hatred of the world” as you run from the truth. But you have to know the truth is there to feel that hatred or you are just aloof. People will be quick to think the lyrics are nonsense because of the title and the second verse, but they are very wrong. Even in the second verse, it may sound nonsensical, but the point is that the characters are trying to distract themselves as they are nervous

I'm just fascinated with how much of a difference that 2" soul patch transformed his 1.5" soul patch into a full grown man. I didn't even recognize him anymore! I can see it now. Then another gazillion kids running up to my door at Halloween, replete with tiny soul patches! Costumes and Disguises are a blast!! So is MGMT.

I’m catching some clear Eddie Vedder vibes at the beginning from Andrew. Towards the end there is a clear reference to Alice in Chains on MTV unplugged. Some Rivers Cuomo mixed in as well. Probably a bunch of other references I’m missing. Makes sense with the obvious 90s grunge vibe on the song itself.

So excited for this.. MGMT never fails to excite my senses with their innovative sound that's ever-evolving just like all of us. Mother Nature put me back in the MGMT self titled track days, and knowing them they'll pull influence from all of their combined work to give us something soooo juicy and delectable. I'm obsessed with this loading screen as well, so fresh and unique, but still feels like HOME. And now we wait for greatness 🥰

Andrew has stated in an interview that he suffers from Misophonia. I believe Bubblegum Dog is connected to his hatred for people chewing gum loudly, which is why he’s afraid but the hate is also catching up to him in a karma type of way
