Until this game, we knew Zero was a controversial secret player but the only thing we saw of him was a goofy British bond loving major. This game shows us who really was. A paranoid man running out of time.

@@PikaBolaChan he has about 30 minutes worth of tapes to listen to. The issue is that most players wouldn't encounter these story elements until we'll beyond most people's patience ended. I love the writing and acting but the way this CRITICAL context isn't provided until jumping through so many protracted is REALLY clumsy storytelling on Kojima's part. I didn't hate the fact the truth tapes have an hours worth of content but it shoudln't have been gatekept the way it was.
But Zero didn't beg for mercy or anything. He was old and got infected by a parasite that could kill him. Despite the massive technology he had, he went on a comatose state for the rest of his life, BUT the patriots A.I acted as his will up to a certain point. In that case he still got away with everything he did and his death was not even painful. Meanwhile everyone including Miller were dead for a long time before he died. Remember the paralelism at the end of the credits, the very last events narrated are "Zero dies...Big Boss dies"

Because from his perspective he was taking care of the situation. "It's going to take a little longer before we're all on the same page". This suggests he felt he would be able to bring Skull Face in line and believed himself to be in full control. He exiled Skull Face to Africa after the destruction of MSF. But as we know he fucked up and underestimated Skull Face and was infected with the parasite a short time later
Quotes from Code Talker and Ocelot about how Skull Face "split from Zero and used XOF to usurp control over Cipher itself", and, "Even a country like America sways in his wake", would imply his total control over Cipher.
Zero most likely considered that if Miller knew that early that it was skull face that led the attack on mother base, then he would’ve wasted no time hastily tracking him down in an uncoordinated fashion without the Big Boss and ended up meeting an early death because XOF is just too strong.
@@quinnimon kinda funny knowing that even with Miller sitting still, XOF tracked his ass and hacked off his limbs before leaving him to die in a desert. No matter how much Zero tried to prevent Kaz from facing Skullface, it happened before the game started.

To be fair you can tell that big boss saw kaz as a traitor since the end of peace walker , yes kaz came out clean to snake but big Boss hate liars and traitors so he was a liability at best
From all these conversation and how he act, we can summarize that zero never hate snake.. just, snake hate him because he hide the truth about snake eater ops and because of him, snake was force to kill his mother figure the boss. Also what he did with les infant terible was disgusting and that is the last straw for snake.. but in zero pov, he didn't do anything wrong, he hide the truth because he doesn't want the ops to failed. Regarding to the project, he just don't want snake blood line to cease to exist because snake was sterile.. such a waste of good soldier, according to him..that is why he do what he does.. it's like a father and rebellious teen son relationship..
Kaz in mgsv was the TRUE descent into becoming the villain, not Big Boss/Venom Snake. Kojima is such a crafty storyteller when he wants to be, complete misdirection until the last minute.
MyHeroMacadamiaNuts why would it be better? The story is as good as it is, because as MGS has always been, nothing is ever as it seems. Kojima made fans believe a narrative they didn't question, only for him to reveal that Big Boss wasnt a villain but a hero all along, just like The Boss.

The reason I thought it would be better if it was actually big boss is because everything was taken from him and he wants revenge. You can't tell me that he wouldn't want to kill skull face after what he did, right? The story should've been about the descent into the villain that Big Boss becomes, because believe it or not, he does become the villain at one point. He frickin has child soldiers and he cuts off the oil supply, he tries to kill Solid Snake but fails twice. Yeah sure it would make a little sense that there would be a stand in for big boss in Outer Heaven, but it isn't as hard hitting as it is being the actual big boss. I'm just saying. The story would've been a whole lot better if Big Boss was actually Big Boss.
Yuri Stormeye The world order that Zero built to control all human beings and take away their minds/free will. Plus how does Big Boss not show any concern for other human beings? He was clearly concerned for the medic while speaking with Ocelot

After Skullface died he joined the Patriots, it's assumed that he found a measure of peace and comfort as he married/divorced and had a daughter, he was rendered sterile but he still considered her to be his family. After Skullface died Donald Anderson probably disavowed and had XOF personnel killed and rebuilt the Patriots operational arm with agents inside the DIA and NSA. FOXHOUND was still useful and relevant but in the future, the majority of wars and battles would be fought with information and cyber warfare. Which is where the A.I’s came into function, JD already existed in an early form DR Strangelove was hired by Zero and worked with Donald to get it up and running based the early iteration of JD on peace walker....but when zero went into his coma Donald fired her and scrapped all of the work done and restarted the project all by himself. The Patriots supremacy would have been assured thanks to the YSK patches and operating firmware updates as they would have installed backdoors in computer software all over the world allowing the A.I’s unlimited access. Ever watch ”Person of interest” it tacked very, very similar themes in regards to A.I’s. its clear miller wasn't loyal to the boss but to growing the war economy, he says as much at the end of peacewalker, in ground zeros (which is a fabrication of venoms mind) he acts like he had once believed Paz's cover story, which he knew for a fact was a fake story. Miller was loyal to his own ideals, and it's clear he worked behind the bosses back to achieve them. If ocelot wasn't so jarringly fake and off in the game, people would probably focus on how miller doesnt make sense more.
@@CassiusFA 50/50 Miller was using Zero to the benefits of Big Boss, because in his eyes both wanted the same thing, yes, he was doing behind his back but he knew Zero doesn't wished any harm to Snake and was for the sake of their common dream After MSF fall he knew he screwed up things and dedicated all his strenght to help Big Boss to the point to loss limbs and put a Target on their backs only to knew that the real Big Boss doesn't care a little about him to the point to send a decoy and left them alone with XOF
Damn it sure does add to the ominous and mysterious undertones of what goes on behind the curtains of the whole mgs storyline through these recordings.
The basic workflow is: -put all intel people into another group, eg medical bay, since they get released automatically later. this prevents lots of onscreen notices and sounds - go to a place thats dark and quiet to play the tape, I chose some caves - make sure all soldiers in the areas are absolutely cleaned out - now basically play the tape and record. because something always goes wrong, and weather warnings cannot be stopped, you usually have to do 2 or 3 recordings and cut it together. you may wanna position the camera so that snake disappears. rest is video effects to adjust the levels and make only white show up, which are the subtitles

Did all of these audio tapes take place in a certain sequence of events (chronology) or are they just random tapes with bits of information? Example: did Zero talk to Miller and then talk to Ocelot?
He spoke to Ocelot first, because Ocelot is the one he actually trusts and likes plus The Patriots consists of Big Boss, Zero, Ocelot, Eva, Sigint and Para Medic before Big Boss broke away from Zero with Ocelot and Eva leaving with him. Also why do you think he brings up Ocelot the way he does in this conversation? Thats also to prove to Kaz how much of a non factor he is in the grand scheme which is why he says to Kaz that Big Boss knows this particular contact for quite awhile "10 years longer than you", which also pusses off Kaz and makes him grit his teeth as you can hear in the tapes.
I think it might be....Skull Face and Zero > Ocelot and Zero (Zero told ocelot he was sick and then will never hear from him again. Maybe because he was about to enter a comatose state) Zero and Miller
MGSV is so god damn underrated. The fanbase just refuses to see it with their blind devotion... though, that's any fanbase, group, or any party of thought/belief.
