Im really impressed with what Xiaomi delivered with this box in terms of performance at the low price that it costs.
I was concerned that the wifi only connectivity option could not be enough to have a acceptable experience. Guess what? I WAS TOTALLY WRONG :)
I believe that the Mi Box 3 is a great choice for someone that:
- Has a great Wifi Network (or will invest in a solution)
- Wants the Android TV OS Experience
- Doesn't mind installing aps trough "sideloading" system

Great video man! PLease tell us if it can play .ISO files (uncompressed from DVDs) with menus and all, just like you said it can play .MKV well, I wonder if it can also play .ISOs? All my movie backups are ISOs from auld DVDs... thanks!

Nice review. I just have one question. I'm thinking about buying this android TV box, but I'm a little worried because it only has USB 2.0. So is this enough for 4K HDR bluray rips in hevc x265 from USB HDD or will I have any stutters while watching movies?

Zlobni Kotlet usb 2.0 can run 4k hdr. Usb 2.0 is capable of 60MB/s. My tv only has usb 2.0 and it runs 4k with hdr with no stutter.

Hi Rocky, i also was in believe that did not work well but after testing yesterday with my Anker Usb 3.0 adapter i was once again surprised how well it worked. We all know usb 2.0 speeds, bottlenecks etc but works great. I believe that it depends on the brand of the adapter that we use. This one that you see imgur.com/a/5Mh8w works really well :) RJ

Hello, I just bought this box. My tv doesn't support 4K. But I am having stutter problems even with 1080P videos. On youtube and Netflix, some videos won't play without a lag with both 1080p 24hz and 1080p 60hz. (Not network lag, playback lag.) And on Kodi, even though I have auto framerate enabled, I have to choose 1080p 60hz for dvdrip movies, and 1080p 24hz for bluray rip movies. And some still stutter even after I choose it. What settings do you suggest for me?

You can install a launcher and use it like an app but everytime you press the home button you will be taken to Android TV OS so its not (in my opinion) a option 😃

Hi Roberto, thanks for your great video, I have search few days for a good Android box, finally I am in between (MI box + Neo Lite remote) and Minix Neo U1, I want to know which one you would choose. If I buy MI box with Minix Lite remote, what else issue I may face, My priority is only watching Movies using Popcorn Time in KODI using VPN, I am not interested about game or 4K video.

Thanks for the great reviews especially on the mi box . I think I'm going to get it especially after tour review.. How about that youndoo box with 4 gb of ram not being so hot I too was disappointed in that one. So I make the mi box or the new minix box I have seen many reviews saying all good things. For the Amazon tv box second generation what other game pad would be good besides the Amazon I tried a older nividia one and no go

Hey Richard, thanks for the feedback!! The Mi Box is a great deal for someone that enjoys the Android TV Os. The Minix U9-H / U1 are the best in class on Pure Android. Regarding the Fire TV i cant use one (at least legally as Amazon doesnt ship to our country Portugal and i dont want to buy on ebay and use VPN so they wont get my money :)) but i would suggest a Ipega 9028 BT which has a small trackpad that helps a lot The Y8 was a complete disaster :) The Nvidia controller is BT but exclusive to Nvidia devices :) RJ 👍

Yep you may use a USB pen to expand the storage and install more aps. Just make sure you get the fastest USB drive you can get 👍👍

Hi Mahmoud, the link that i have on the video description is the Mibox Android TV international version, the otehrs are chinese only. And they have Android TV OS, if you prefer Pure Android than you should look at another box RJ 👍

Hi Roberto, Firstly thanks for your high valuable reviews. I love watching these. In the video you talk about this mi box being an Amlogic s905, but the link underneath your video links to a Cortex A53. I am a bit confused. Are they the same? On Gearbest I see a Xiaomi 3s (s905) and a Xiaomi Mi Box (Cortex A53). Could enlighten me? Cheers, Maarten

According to Xiaomi's chinese website, there are two identical boxes called 3s and 3c. 3s is the one with 2gb ram and 3c got only 1gb. There is also one called 'Mi box 3 Enhanced', but is a totally different design and white in colour. S905 is an soc with Cortex A53 cores in it. They are basically same. So get the one with 2GB ram.

Hey Maarten and Jishnu, that is a interesting question and Jishnu is right on the explanation. I will try only to explain it in another way :) The Amlogic S905 is a Soc (System on a Chip) pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/System-on-a-chip it includes everything. Imagine a Motherboard with CPU + GPU + Ram etc all together that is the Soc which in this case is the S905 www.amlogic.com/#Products/176/index.html that in the integration has a CPU caller "Arm Cortex A53" :) That is it. There are several brands using the Arm Cortex A53 CPU like RK on the 3368 www.rock-chips.com/a/en/products/RK33_Series/2015/0717/671.html and others Hope it helps to understand a bit better and do as Jishnu said and select the 2GB version. Great video. Used a Miracast but disappointed. Unfortunately, I got my Mi Box and the Ethernet adapter and get gigabit speeds, but I am unable to watch Netflix on it. It seems to be HDCP issues causes Netflix to disconnect after a few seconds. I learned enough to check my DRM info and found HDCP unsupported. I think I may have gotten a box with issues. It's mostly over my head. I'm used to Roku's and etc just working.

It depends KS, if you prefer Pure Android i would go Minix U9-H but if you prefer the Android TV OS then sure the Mibox is a great option as well. The A3 is comaptible with some features or the main keys (directional + keyboard) but there are some keys that are dedicated to only minix machines like turn on / off, options, multi task etc RJ 👍

Hai jorge, i'm already havin this box for like 5-6 months. Firstly the wifi speed are very good around 20mbps. But after a few months, now i can only have half of my actual speed 8-9mbps and even factory data reset wont help it. Should i use the power link? Or should i use an ethernet Network Adapter? Hehe!! 3 coments from you in a row and i just left a link for this video when you asked for the Mibox. To record any machine with Android 6 and above will be able to install aps that can record the screen (Android TV OS on Mibox and Shield are not so friendly for that) But to record from a HDMI source than there is the Beelink SEA, Zidoo X9S, Probox 2 AVA RJ 👍

Hi! very good review... I was considering this Mi Box 3 (international version) for my bedroom. The Tv is only FHD (720p), and I will use it mainly for Netflix, RU-vid and occasionally for Kodi. I don't plan to play games. The connection isn't very fast at all, but I stream already to my smart tv in the kitchen with an LG dongle and Netflix and YT work fine. I plan to add an extender between the router and the mi box to amplify the signal because in the bedroom I haven't any ethernet socket to use a box with ethernet connectivity. Do you think this is a good choice or there is something else for a better price? I don't know much of tv boxes. Thank you in advance and keep up the good work, you're truly talented.

Hi Roberto, how big is the 10-bit 4K h.265 file you tried over Wifi on Kodi? Did it play OK over USB? And by 10-bit do you mean HDR? I wonder if it is a processing issue or bandwidth issue. 10-bit encodes can often decrease the file size at the same quality when used with 1080p SDR content, so I was surprised to see it having a problem on this box.

The issue is not the size (cant remember right now) but the high bitrate that it has. But yes i did try over USB and worked fine and also with a USB to RJ45 adapter i was able to play it fine imgur.com/a/5Mh8w Its only a bandwith issue, and have in mind that my network is not slow :) But over wifi i can play 30GB Mkv Blueray 1080p movies without issues and that was the reason i was really impressed :) RJ

The problem only occurs just when you stream something through Kodi only via WiFi...am I correct? Sorry but I'm a newbie in this... :(

Can you do a video on how to add expendable storage. I added a usb and formated it as internal storage but when I look it stills says 5.2 for internal storage but when I look at the internal storage it says 32. But I believe it recognized the 4.2 internal storage cause after I down load Jodi and a couple of apps it says ran out of storage

Sure it can, however the 4K will be downscaled to HD on your tv which is the maximum resolution, but the final result will be fine RJ 👍

Hi Tin, sure VLC or any other media player. I use Kodi which is easier and it can grab the movies info from the web and show all covers etc from your hdd media library 👍

My Mibox international version does not work with netflix. Videos stop after 2-10 seconds with the error "tvq-pm-100 (5.2.5)" On RU-vid there is plenty of videos showing the problem. Does your box still work ?

The link you left is for the MDZ-16AB or Mi Box 2. I have had this box almost a year. Edit...apparently it is the MiBox3 and the same one I have. It is not new as it's been sold in US for 9 months or so. Runs 6.0.1 Android now and is an excellent performer. I thought it was marketed as MiBox2 when they entered US market last year.

Did anyone of you try to stream 4k videos from GoPro Hero 5 using Mi Box 3? Any experience with it? I plan to buy this devices and the easiest way for me would be to store all videos from GoPro on my Nas Server (Synology RJ216j) and stream it via MiBox 3 to my TV as currently used Chromecast 2 do not support video format from GoPro. Very disappointed. Great device until I use Netflix, which was one of the main reasons I purchased it. After few seconds of playback and error occurs every time: yvq-pm-100 (5.2.5) Netflix basically say it's the device, and Xiaomi have no solution other than return product to gearbest. Do you have any idea what to do or should I just return it?

Hi Roberto.. I clicked on the link as I want to purchase one of the mi box 3 android boxes. Can u confirm that link is for the mi box 3? Cause I'm only seeing mi box and doesn't look like it's the 3

Hi Kevin, yes the link that i have is for the exact same model as mine. Mibox 3 International version. (they dont call it 3 :) they only call it Mibox but this is the 3rd generation) Hope it helps RJ 👍 PS: Be careful because there are versions in chinese only that we cannot get into english or any other language, the one on the link is the International one 👍

i use the hal launcher on the me box even though you can't make the default you cann put a shortcut to return if you fat finger the unit

I want to cut the cable and use a new TV Box like Tick Box and I would like toknow if any box you should suggest will be simple plug into a Hdmi port on TV I'm Not interested in gaming 70 years old me. I do have internet, thank you if you can help me
