Ive been using remix mini as a desktop replacement but problem is i cant do portrait mode when i want to. I have a rotating monitor. i would use it on docs, comics, etc...So my question is which is the best full android box that'll let me do portrait mode?

Would it be possible to use something like the Mi Box 3 as a desktop computer? Right now I have a computer that I basically use for web browsing, RU-vid viewing, etc. Nothing fancy. I was thinking about getting a Chromebook (or Chromebox) and hook it up, but would a Mi Box 3 or the like work? I have a KVM for other computers that I would plug the Android box into. With the Android box I could get about 90% of what I do all day in a less expensive device... Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Dolphin emulator is sick on Android TV boxes, you can even buy a Dolphin bar to make it a full fledged Wii. Other emulator works well too.

Since the time of cutting the cord is almost upon us, the Android TV Box is certainly the lynchpin. I'm in the midst of introducing the wife to the wonders of streaming. It's an arduous task since she's bee used to the convenience of cable for years. For her live tv is a must, so we have a paid IPTV service....far from flawless in my opinion...but do-able. We also have a couple of APK's for tv and movies. For me, movies and sports...specifically MMA now. We also have a paid Sports app that my brother and I like. And of course we use Kodi. Oh, and we have Netflix which we wouldn't be without. So about the only thing left to do is say "goodbye" to the cord. I'm not concerned about the loss of a DVR, the wife is, but it's a small price to pay. I appreciate all of your videos and the education you provide to the community. Thanks!!

Hey Bill, thanks for sharing your experience and expectations with us. Indeed the tv as we know it will soon "disapear" as we want to see something that we enjoy now on our little free time and in the future more and more people will move away from the classic cable tv. It will take time but it will shift as consumers these days are more demanding 👍 Im really enjoying this video series and having a great feedback from the community!! 😀

Roberto, could you also add a top of the boxes best suited for Game streaming (besides nvidia shield that costs alot of money). There isn't any info about this on the internet. Only thing i have seen that not all boxes handle game streaming well.

Hey Valentin, this selection here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2Y15HWj1Sro.html all handle game stream 100% including the shield. Not all cpus and firmware handles it well and on my individual reviews i always test it and state the results, most work but from time to time we get one that doesn't 😀

thanks. Will check them all out. Yeah, you're the only reviewer of the android TV boxes that even mentions Moonlight in his tests. Would be cool if you could expand it a little . Ex. Besides from your personal feeling about delay/lag , moonlight also reports the decoder latency once you close the stream (my samsung note 4 reports anything from 15-25ms and plays great). Would be great to get those numbers in your tests. Also new boxes might also support hw h265 moonlight decoding wich might improve things on some boxes. Like you said, it depends on the firmware too. This is uncharted teritory and I think many of with a recent nvidia gpu would like to know wich is best for this , besids the expensive thing that was designed for this , the Nvdia shield. thank you for the reply and keep it going :)

In the past i have done a few videos and i believe that i mentioned delay etc but usually i dont release the numbers as it confuses users more than it helps so i prefer to mention if it plays 1080p 60FPS well or not and that way we know regardless of the numbers ru-vid.comsearch?query=game+stream There are a few videos that might help, one of them very old with the Z64 Intel devices where i have tested windows, android and linux hehe!! 👍

thank you. Much apreciated. seems I missed those videos. How does AM905 boxes compare to AM912? I always hear that they are pretty much the same in performance (excluding syntetic benchmarks)... Does 912 bring more performance for moonlight gamestreaming or it is the same?

Numbers are very important to me as they reflect the real latency.Keeping them hidden brings confussion. Little to no info on the internet ,but on moonlight's github there are plenty reports of s905 and s912 that have 80ms +latency wich of course means lag. everything over 50ms is a no go and seems that eighter moonlight is not opmized for s905/s912 android boxes or the soc is just not good enough for gamestreaming.

Still have to subscribe for the monthly rate. I'd try Polaris Office. I successfully hooked up a PRINTER to my Shield. I consider it a Mini PC for sure!

Is it possible to set up an Android TV box to be a bluetooth SINK profile, so it can receive bluetooth audio from other devices without any special streaming app, and output that audio on the 3.5mm audio jack to a wired speaker? I think this cannot be done with phones because they only support Bluetooth SOURCE profiles (transmit audio)

Why is this better than just using your phone as the ULTIMATE remote control and a Chromecast? Am I missing something? If I could find a way to get my phone to play on my tv without any WiFi, then I'm interested and listening.

What can you not do with it? With mines I just can't run Netflix in HD or 4K, I could really careless about Netflix since I use either Kodi or syncler, my old android box replaced my cable box. While my new upgraded android box replaced my PS4, the gaming apps I use are Luna plus, XCloud and shadow.

Several people have done head to head comparisons of various android tv boxes vs FireStick & Fire TV, (which you can open to Kodi, Mobdro anything really) . Most have said the performance was almost the same & some even giving the advantage to the Firestick & fire TV....was wondering what you thought about this, have you ever compared either amazon device to an Android box. ? Forgetting about playing any games, based purely on streaming quality, what do You think ? Really enjoy Your Reviews .. Thanks.

I would recommend the Minix Neo U-1. I think Roberto does a video on it. Now that the U-9 is out, the prices of the U-1 have come down quite a bit.

Hey Muhammad and Silver, The U9-H and U1 are very similar in terms of raw performance so the only question is: Do you need Android 6? If yes than the U9-H is the best choice, if you don't then check out the prices on the U1 and if you get a good deal. 😊

I would agree with you Roberto. But where does one obtain a U-9 for under $100? Why would one "need" an Android 6 system if not just to have the most modern system. If you are referring to adoptable memory on the Android 6, I find it very restrictive especially when trying to set up download locations. There are ways to work around this, but it is just extra work. Android 5 handles this very well.

Yep exactly because adoptable storage, if we need it than its worth the extra few dollars of the U9-H + A3 remote pack but off course if we don't need Android 6 as i said performance of the u1 will be very similar and a final user wont notice it 👍

One thing you didn't mention is you can connect a USB hard drive loaded with movies. I have a two terabyte hard drive loaded with six hundred movies. With room for about six hundred more. All of my wife and my favorite movies. I also have TV shows that we like loaded. Its a movie power house.

I just stopped 50 seconds into the video just to make this comment real quick: I SOLD TV's (& hifi etc.) for 10 years and priding myself on professionalism there wasn't much I didn't know about what was on the market at any point in time during that decade. Nowdays, having sold my last panel around 3.5 years ago after quitting in pursuit other endeavors (...and never wanting to ever look at another television again at the time haha!) I saw this ''Android TV Box'' advertised and here I am... I know nothing about these whatsamecallits...err u know the thingamagigas!?... BUT if what the first 50 secs u say is true... I might just have a nerdgasm! ''I'll take two of those!'' Oh, and so - yes, what you say about people that have never heard about it before is now undeniably true and you're both very kind and wise sir to have thought of Us, the Oblivious. Have you ever experienced Samsung Dex? The Samsung S and Note 8 series and newer Samsung devices are all DeX capable, and it uses my phone to turn my 55" TV into an amazing cross between a desktop and Samsung UI. I LOVE IT!
