Kym, I think you've turned into the Godfather of F1. Amazing pictures. Max did not get booed because he is winning. He got booed by Checo supporters because of his behavior toward Checo in Brazil last season. That really angered them. That being said I would never boo an F1 driver. Great idea to do a signed picture with Pato. By far the most popular IndyCar driver right now. And exciting to watch drive.

Respect to LL for getting the names correct. As an American though, the celebrity stuff mostly annoys me. Obviously there are a few that are actual fans (but they tend to show up at other races besides Miami too) but the ones there just to make a social media post exhaust me. Will-I-Am's interview on the F1 live post show was so embarrassing to watch.

As an American who’s been watching f1 before DTS , I don’t get the obsession with the celebrities and that fiasco. I was embarrassed by the pre show nonsense it was pointless and way to commercialised. The race was another snooze fest, hopefully this is the last time we see a pre show like this.

Vin Diesel doesn’t take anything for granted with his fans because he knows how lucky he is be where he is at in life growing up poor in New York City struggling to become an actor during the early 1990’s. While being fortunate enough to also become very successful and rich doing something he is good at because of his passion for the craft of acting. Spending half his life making Fast and Furious movies which created a new fan base obsessed with car culture has earned him the right to be one of the few celebrities that deserves to be there celebrating anything involving racing cars. He was into car culture before he got famous too.

I've been an IndyCar fan since since my 20s and just started following F1 in the last several yrs, some folks didn’t like the Hollywood aspect of it all, but its not like it happens every circuit. We have to remember this is a business, & revenue is the bottom line. Its already hard as it is to get new north american fans to watch F1 (pre DTS), so u do what you can to promote the sport. Oh and it does happen in the NBA aswell. Fashion walks and intros occur especially during NBA AllStar Weekend. Love your post, keep it up!

Busiess & revenue? I think F1 is a sport firstly. The money aspect is important sure, but it should come secondary to the things that make F1 great: good racing, quality circuits and entertainment on track. Why should F1 fight for the love of the north american fans so hard? You don't see that shit in Brazil or Japan. American fans should come because they want to enjoy the racing and love for the sport. Not because it is an instagram event! European sports are based on passion and love for the sport itself and not for the revenue, otherwise we would just put 10 bilboards full of ads on the football fields. Sport first, money second!

@@jefbevernage3461 This is a great post and lots of valid points, for Motorsport fans definitely understand this but trying to attract non-Motorsport fans, especially woman, it’s tough cause they’re competing with other local sports like basketball, hockey, baseball, football and futbol (soccer), UFC, etc. I used to work at a sports broadcast company in Canada and Motorsport only gets small attention and when it does, it’s INDYCAR or Indy500, NASCAR, F1 and it’s very brief. Fighting for new mainstream North America fans is not easy. I’m actually happy this only occurs in Miami and not say in Monza or Silverstone etc. it gives variety. I love how F1 is global vs INDYCAR is not but will still watch Indy from time to time. I love F1tv Pro.

@@Gbiese tru one or two of them. You have to respect Monaco for what it is tight and difficult and high margin for error. You can over take its just hard which makes it even better. Its like a goal in soccer you see what more passion about it from everyone then a frequent point scoring game. Look at Charles expression when his dressed up like a clown his either laughing at him self or his in disbelieve that hia done we hat his p.r team told him to do and it working by getting attention 😂 anyway, It should be about the danger and racing now a fashion show. I'd watch some models for that 😂 Just feels like watering down, I donno like having a set of rear trading cards and then the company that makes them releases them with some bullshit glitter on them

@CoopMauKona Sir Jackie Stewart IS F1. Without him Formula 1 wouldn't be what it is today. He almost singlehandedly campaigned for track safety and drivers rights that led to the tracks we have today. If HE is not 'allowed' in a roped off area then that reflects very badly on the current owners. The 'celebrities ' I'm referring to are the people who are not involved in F1, who are invited to a race, given all access and then turning their nose up at a simple "Who are you here to support?" Type question like it's a great inconvenience.

@Kim: Did you know that LL Cool J confuses Alex Palou's driver with a waiter? This happened in front of the McLaren motorhome. LL Cool J was walking around and put in Palou's hands an empty glass, as if he were a waiter. Alex was in the middle of an interview with GodFlores, a very known Spanish F1 journalist.

The Razamataz etc. What I am saying is while I don't enjoy seeing all of the Celebrities on the Grid, many not knowing anything about the sport, I understand this is the what is now normal, especially, but not restricted to America. I do remember Wesley Snipes complaing about have to do another round of waving and smiling as the Monaco Grand Prix in ( I think ) the early 2 thousands, it was caught on live TV. I guess it's just as hard a job for them as it is for Martin Brundel.

It seems many of those celebrities mentioned were foreign to the U.S. I don't think there is anything unfortunate about the U.S. hosting 3 F1 races in a single year and driving (pun intended) much of the increased popularity in the sport.

Funny how all these celebrities (and this coming from a massive Fed fan) only come out at the most hyped Grand Prix. Why don’t we see these ‘fans of f1’ at Baku? Or Austria? Or Imola? Bahrain? Very few seem to have a genuine interest in the sport itself. Tom Cruise or Rowan Atkinson quietly slipping into a team’s garage to watch on race day I can appreciate, but most parade around for the attention and photo ops then probably leave before the race is done

wish i coulda ran into you. It seems to be exceedingly tough to meet the drivers at this track :( the gate 11 things coulda been useful i've been trying to get my Daniel Ricciardo red bull hat signed for years and just never get to see him at any of the tracks. Understand the whole celebrity thing, and especially in the USA. But we tend to be losing sight of the fact that the F1 drivers are the celebrities we are following and most interested in when it comes to the Grand Prix weekend. I think Formula One is starting to lose its focus with all of the celebrity stuff, especially the ridiculous additional pre-race antics. Anyway, let’s see where all this goes, if it continues the way it is I can see F1 being less relevant in Europe and potentially losing some of its audience down the track, I could however be wrong. Perhaps it’s just no longer the sport for many of us to follow.

Great piece Kym! Thanks so much for all the photos. It was awesome to see Yost and Romain. But I have a most pressing curiosity and since you were in the stadium area, Just how good are $450 lobster rolls? The photo of a menu from the Stadium has been circulated to every living soul on Earth by now and I genuinely am curious LOL! Was that for a 3lb platter of 12? All the F1 puritans are running around with their hair on fire over the driver intros, but anyone who follows racing in America, it's normal. All 3 NASCAR series and Indy all do it, have for a long time, not forever, but long enough it's expected and part of the event, and mostly for the fans attending. It doesn't always make TV. I think if the right people had worked with them maybe in a different way could've been better, It looked like they were very uncomfortable, all except Logan and that's because he's used to it here. They all said they didn't understand iit - Well, then someone didn't do their job and get them to buy in and enjoy it. If they all look miserable, it's not going to sell us. But I understand the bubbles they put themselves in for protection. It's always been a thing for some drivers.

Your video content is epic, love your work. But as an American whose been a casual to serious fan of f1 for many years, this pumping of the celebrity aspect is kind of disappointing. I guess I don’t care if they invite important people to the event but I really hope they stop all of the hokey promotional stuff like the “walk out” and all the other junk they put in. the intros for the drivers, was the most painstakingly cringy thing I've seen in a long time. Its not done in any sport and doesn't need to be in F1. Just cos they are marketing to the US its dumbing everything down to that market. And the way the security blocked Sir Jackie Stewart and tried to manhandle him was disgusting. The man is a legend to the sport and an ambassador to F1 so seeing the disrespect accustomed to him was ridiculous
