Author and professor Michael Eric Dyson weights in on Sean "Diddy" Combs alleged 2016 assault on his former girlfriend in the context of America's culture of misogyny.
Diddy is done…and the fact that the video was EXACTLY as Cassie described, verbatim, in the lawsuit is insane. Makes you wonder what truly happened to Kim Porter 😢
he’s an idiot and it’s absurd that he’s considered an intellectual because he has nothing intellectual to say besides reciting a dictionary without even grasping the framework of his language. Micheal Eric Dyson is insufferable
@@user-vo4wc2jz8g very true. What Dyson is essentially saying is that over the hills, cloud blue a shelf lay fuschia, labels and rash, files are landing. Wall speaks windy hot mess. Karma is coming for that mofo! Diddy assaulted that young lady like a MMA fighter! His end is going to be very horrific! He will not be able to falsely claim Racism as the cause of his downfall!

Please do yourself a favor. Do not listen to Peterson. The man dresses his language in academic terms but the reality of what he is saying is vapid. I recognize that part of his agenda is driven by his own mental illnesses and if he was not such a grifter I would feel sorry for him.
As a victim of domestic violence, this makes me sick, and yes, it permeates the culture seemingly without consequence, but Mr. Dyson almost tried to dilute this specific horrific abuse by Diddy by not focusing enough on the egregiousness of this situation, but saying it’s everywhere. We know this, but focusing on one powerful example can be the impetus for change everywhere.
I thought it was the opposite of diluting it. To me diluting it would be to simply explain it away as a part of a very small segment of society (rap culture) whereas he's saying it's everywhere and a huge problem Half his answer addressed specifically what Diddy did and why he did it (he didn't value a woman as an equal or even a human being with value). He addressed both the specific story and problem overall. No disrespect intended but it feels like part of the problem is no answer is ever good enough and people trying to draw attention to the problem in good faith just get criticized
I noticed that too. Dyson's number one strategy is to say, "Yes it's deplorable, but let's look at it in the larger context. It's Everywhere!! Let me give you a very long list of the Other places it is, without ever discussing the person/atrocity you brought up".
I agree with you 100% but I think this is about money and politics, I asked AI: AI answer about Sean Combs/ Blackrock/ Vanguard/ BOA and $2 billion lawsuit against his sponsors: Diageo Beverage Company sponsored big events with Sean Combs. This entire thing smells of desperation, greed and corruption. Especially if he has been an informant for the FBI. Diageo, one of the largest beverage alcohol companies in the world, has a diverse portfolio of brands including Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Baileys, and Smirnoff. The company is predominantly owned by institutional investors. The largest shareholders of Diageo include: • BlackRock, Inc.: Holding about 6.6% of the shares. • MFS Investment Management, Inc.: Holding approximately 5.2%. • The Vanguard Group, Inc.: Holding around 4.0% of the shares. Other notable institutional investors include Bank of America Corp, FMR LLC, and Morgan Stanley, each holding significant portions of Diageo’s stock Diageo (DEO) Institutional Ownership 2024. Regarding Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, he has been involved with Diageo through a partnership centered on the Ciroc vodka brand since 2007. This collaboration was highly successful, leading to significant growth for Ciroc. However, in June 2023, Combs filed a lawsuit against Diageo, alleging racial discrimination and claiming the company failed to honor their agreements related to Ciroc and DeLeón Tequila. Combs sought $2 billion in damages, accusing Diageo of neglecting these brands due to racial bias. Diageo is a British multinational beverage alcohol company, renowned for its wide range of spirits, beer, and wine brands. Some of its most well-known brands include Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Baileys, and Smirnoff. The company operates globally and is one of the largest players in the alcoholic beverage industry. Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, has had a significant relationship with Diageo through a business partnership involving the Ciroc vodka brand. In 2007, Combs entered into a strategic alliance with Diageo to develop the Ciroc brand, acting as a brand ambassador and handling marketing and promotion. This partnership was highly successful, leading to substantial growth in Ciroc’s market presence and sales. In June 2023, Sean Combs filed a lawsuit against Diageo, alleging racial discrimination and claiming that the company had failed to fulfill their contractual obligations. The lawsuit alleged that Diageo had not adequately invested in and promoted Ciroc and DeLeón Tequila, another brand co-owned by Combs. He claimed that this negligence was due to racial bias, resulting in significant financial losses. Combs sought $2 billion in damages in this lawsuit. Diageo denied these allegations and maintained that they had honored their agreement with Combs. The legal dispute highlights the complexities and challenges that can arise in high-profile business partnerships, especially when they involve significant financial stakes and issues of racial equity.
@@maskedmarvyl4774 So you think it's a better strategy for awareness to stay hyper-focused on Diddy, a billionaire weirdo that nobody will relate too where it can chalked up to the individual rather than making the point it is everywhere because misogyny is a huge problem in society in general, even in places you don't normally think of as being misogynistic? I don't understand the complaint here. It would be one thing if saying it is everywhere was done in a way to minimize it but he's not doing that at all. He's saying it's everywhere and needs to be stamped out everywhere in society to stop it
@@onyx9857Typical left wing response when they can’t say anything else. No one is more triggered than the Left and no one complains more than them. You could feel sorry for them except that there’s no need: they have enough self pity for twenty lifetimes.
I thought it was worth bringing up as I've seen a lot of it in our two faced "humanity culture". Isn't it so interesting that American men are so protective that they warn us about all these other countries, how women are treated. But take a close enough look at our own culture before making any judgement aimed towards anyone else. Many of these so called "protective American men", are commiting some of the most heinous crimes. I've learned that must of the men in many other cultures, are so much more humane than those who are trying to tear down men of other cultures. Almost as if they're trying to keep us women in check, afraid to leave. They don't want us to realize that there are real men who actually treat their women better than their cars.
I'm surprised that Dyson didn't blame the white man for what Diddy did! There is no "context " to what Diddy did!!! It's disgusting. Dyson is a hypocrite!! He defended this type of behavior in rap music!!!
Well, people like Dyson whom excuse this behavior, I think are just as equally depraved as Combs, he see this degeneracy on camera but yet still desperately wants to be part of this high society which is no longer hiding they sickness to world, at this point this guy is a clown.
I know. Why can't a terrible act be called out for what it is? Like it needs to be contextualised. How about, "what Diddy did is terrible and I am horrified"
If this case as we saw in the video is part of 5 other cases, and criminal indictments are forthcoming, Puffy is headed for the big house for a long time.
for that dude, women are being kicked and dragged in church. the biggest threat to females are left, they care less for truth and females if it was kanye west, this guy would focus on kanye, but diddy is against trump also that dude wouldnt dare mention muslims, thats not politically correct
All that jibbah jabbah just to say Diddy's a psychopath. I know preachers and sh*t are too but you were asked about Diddy bruh. Everybody knows Hip Hop isn't responsible. Puffy got demons. Being rich and powerful yet confused about his sexuality destroyed that dude. "Take That, Take That"
this guy is the biggest threat to women he is interested in politics not well being of females how quickly he went from diddy to who, pastors, prietss... he is all about politics, he wouldnt dare mention muslims
He's talking about his own country you ignoramous. The level and amount of stupidity on this thread is astonishing. No wonder tRUMP loves the poorly educated. You all are just all over 🙄
Domestic abuse rankings: 1. Clerks 2. Police and Military 3. Construction workers 4. Preachers and Lawyers . . ?. Rappers 😂😂😂 Can he provide statistics?
I mean....there's two movies about Clerks. I don't think there's anything about domestic violence, though. They do talk about A2M in the second one a bit too much.

Michael Eric Dyson. Mr Verbal Fireworks. In my opinion, if a white man talked about black people the way that he talks about white people, he would be cancelled. I believe he is a racists. So does Jordan Peterson.
Nonsense commentary!! I was a hip-hop junkie since I was a child and that philosopy has zero respect for women. Music video after music video, women were displayed as objects just like cars, drinks, money and jewelleries. The clothing of women in those videos was for the visual pleasure of men. The influence was widespread and a whole generation of men and women across the globe were influenced by all that.
I always wondered who Mase was rapping about when he said, “How a man deserve you if he hurt you? How a man give a woman 25 a curfew?” That explains it.
@@billyhargrove1405 If people of any ethnicity combat real racism, that's a big plus. On the other hand if it's jackasses of _any_ ethnic background who use racism for some kind of agenda, then it's a big no-no.
@@billyhargrove1405 whoa, slow down there cowboy. What I'm saying is the Mr Dyson has a history of blaming everything on racism and on white people. And no I am neither white nor American, that's probably gonna be your next question lol
Rationalizing hip hop is like trying to intellectualize stupidity. Trying to appear intelligent with a few punctuated flowery, high brow words just doesn't work.
Normally I would agree but these two rappers are considered of higher caliber. So Maher was right; it felt like a proxy between the social activist type and the type that doesn’t want to rock the boat due to mainstream and universalism. Which has always existed; X vs MLK, Ali vs Frazier, etc
I have never considered 'rap' music in anyway. It is beat poetry and nothing new by any means. The difference I see is they all hate each other, they have no respect for women or any authority, and the uglier the language the better. It will be little more than a footnote to music history and/or poetry in 100 years and nothing more. As for p. diddy - he acted out the perfect example of all that rap truly is with that poor girlfriend.
Oh come on now! It's obvious Puff Daddy has emotional problems lol! People just don't understand Daddy lol! We need to reach out and help Daddy! Come on folks! Have pity on Puffy!
More deflection from the black community. You don't make yourself less guilty by making someone else look more or even equally guilty. A responsible adult takes responsibility for what they do. There's no need to attack others. Clearly someone's been teaching CRT.
Everything that happens or doesn’t happen, what can and cannot be known, no matter how serious or trivial ultimately has political implications of which both calculate before they allow the public to learn about it.
Cassie told everyone what was going on. People did not believe her...UNTIL THE VIDEO CAME OUT. We live in a society whereby we don't believe the victim unless there is a video. And that's REALLY sad. Forget all of what you said, MED. It means nothing if we don't start take people at their word.
Even though this guy is trying to deny it up front, he is making excuse or minimizing Diddy's actions by saying it happens everywhere in the optics of a "Social Justice Warrior". I say bull SH|T. It happened because of the motivations and the character of one man - Period. I don't know who this guy is or what his accomplishments are. However listening to his explanation, IMHO, this guys is pathetic because of what he is saying in video clip......
I would say Dyson is the King of "What About Ism" if his equivalencies weren't so egregiously false. The idea that the American "patriarchy" culture or our churches engage in similar kinds of misogyny as hip hop music does is absurd on its face. Maher always lets Dyson get away w/ this bs because he's friends with him. Dyson's worldview is extremely Woke (he's the antithesis of Coleman Hughes or John McWhorter), but Maher always fails to really call him out on his rhetorical bs.
Anyone noticed how he quickly pointed to blame churches and synagogues and “temples” but he was conscious to avoid mentioning mosques. We have young men in the Western countries including in black communities embracing Islam for its patriarchy and old school violent misogyny which is married to violent homophobia, but let’s blame preachers and churches for domestic violence only.
Hurt ppl; hurt ppl! Combs needs to be held accoutable for his actions. It isn't a racial issue. I don't see the need for the projections of racism in the comments. Get a life before the life you have is over.
You're right to an extent but as adults it's up to us to do the hard work to heal our hurt, anger, whatever. He was arrogant and selfish not to do so and God knows what else he's done. But you're right it isn't a racial issue. People do it for different reasons but all people do it. I'm so glad she got her "justice." I just want to hug her seeing that.
How many of you have actually read any of Michael E Dysons books? Hes got much to say...just that many of you have actually taken tome to hear him. Have any of you heard his talkings from the Tavis Smiley/Tom Joyner Symposiums held back in the late 90s??
Not following some of the comments. Not blaming Combs? He did. And Maher didn't ask what Tyson thought of the person. He asked for the context surrounding abuse. It was a nuanced question with a thoughtful response. And accurate from where I'm standing.
I’m a fan of hiphop, but it’s very misleading to say hiphop is not responsible for a lot of the problems with the black community. 85% of the popular artists have multiple songs about degrading women, selling dope and “unaliving” other blacks. It’s so disingenuous to not recognize the influence hiphop has in promoting these obscene behaviors.
