El Chévere - Id say that after going out to the Pistons in the playoffs the Bulls realized there needed to be a change to how Michael and the team were play. The style of play under Doug Collins relied too much on Jordan and was not going to be sustainable or lead them to a championship. There were also rumours about a rift between Doug Collins and Phil Jackson who was assastant coach at the time. Phil Jackson replaced Doug Collins and the rest is history.

Jordan 3rd all-time in steals and 2nd most blocks for a guard. Take your pick but claiming Jordan is, isn't off-base.

And Jordan was N-O-T significantly better offensively. Perimeter players are better off ball because they are perimeter players. Low post scoring options must be fed the ball. It's a team effort pounding the ball into the post and an individual effort for a perimeter player to get open and get the ball. It's painfully obvious you didn't grow up watching that era.

This is Jordan in his athletic prime which only lasted through 1992. Many fans forget this athletic Jordan who was literally all over the court. After 1993 he was more of a jump shooter who conserved energy. He was still elite and unguardable, but his fadeaway jumpshot became his bread and butter during the championship years.

Kobe at his peak was an outstanding defender. Not quite as good as Jordan, but very good. He dropped off badly in his 30s, but then again, so did Jordan

That's the thing, I don't think Collins would have won a title. When Phil took over in the summer of 1989, he did 3 things: 1) improve Bulls' defense (one of his first actions was to let Pippen guard MJ during every practice from that point on. Pippen owes it to Phil and MJ for being the defender he became). 2) Phil started using Tex Winter's triangle offense, which Collins did not like. 3) Phil was a master when it comes to manipulating his player's mentality, and he made MJ realize he did not need to score 40 every game in order to win. I don't think Collins could win titles with his system. Obviously you can't prove it, but based on what happened in reality, Jackson was far more successful.

Jordan in 1991-1993 to me that was his real peak as a player, Becuase he had no real weakness in his game, In the 80s he wasn’t quite as good of a shooter as he was from 1991-93. In the 80s he still had holes in his game, That could be exploited, He wasnt that willing to pass back then, Young Jordan has major problems trusting his teammates which is why he was so ball dominant in the 80s. Jordan from 91-93 was polished, There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. In the 80s he was mostly a driver and a slasher, If you clogged up the lane in the playoffs you could nullify a lot of what Jordan could do. From 91-93 not only was he still at his athletic peak but he was also a way way smarter player compared to the 80s Jordan. We’re the Bulls in the 90s a better team then the 80s Bulls? Hell yes, But the 90s Jordan was also much better then 80s Jordan in terms of Basketball IQ and willingness to trust his teammates. And it ain’t always about Age, The Greek Freak is the same age as Jordan was in the video, He’s certainly in his athletic prime But he’s definitely not in his overall Prime. He still has a lot more learning and growth left to do as a Player. Your prime as an Athlete doesn’t just mean physical Prime, You have also factor in the mental component as well.

Magic Johnson at age 20 could play any position besides maybe the 2 spot. He could pass, rebound and score in the post or hook shot from a little distance. He was basically a point guard in a forwards body. With that type of skill set you can lead your team very far, And its easier to become league ready earlier, Magic didn’t really need anymore dimensions added to his game after his rookie season, Besides maybe a better jump shot, he was pretty polished when he entered the league. Jordan on the other hand had to learn how to pass effectively and more readily. He was a shoot first ask questions later type of player as a young player, It took a few years for Jordan to fully buy into Phill Jacksons system. It wasn’t just the team, The 89 Bulls weren’t a bad team, they weren’t a good team, but they were decent with Jordan. Jordan even said himself in his book, I wasn’t willing to trust my teammates back then, That’s a a direct quote in his own words. He said one of the biggest challenges of his career was trusting his teammates more, And Phill Jackson helped convince him. Jordan was very a selfish player early in his early career, He even admitted it himself. You should check out his book, It’ll tell you way more about Jordan then the last dance.

MJ simply wasn't good enough to lead his team to a title in the 80s. He was a great scorer and a great defender but he wasn't a great leader. Kobe was the same in the mid 2000s, Without Shaq he got exposed as a legit ball hog and a poor leader which is why he kept losing until Phill came back and he started buying into the team concept and become a mature leader. Kobe and Jordans careers were very similar from the age 24-31, In terms of losing and wining in the playoffs, And i said similar not identical, Clearly Jordan had better numbers, More MVPs and more chips but the basic idea of starting out as somewhat of a ball hog and learning how to become more of a team guy is very intrinsic to both their careers.

He was so damn fast and flying left and right here. It’s noticeably different than say 92-93 and of course 95-96. It just goes to show you how much he adjusted his game to stay on top. But in terms of just a tornado of talent and ability this was it.
