Great Memory to relive. So fortunate to have been in attendance at that game. My brother was there to root for Georgetown and when they beat Louisville he met a lady from Louisville who gave him her floor seats. Had no idea who Michael Jordan was or that I was watching him make a shot that would launch his career to become the greatest basketball player ever!

John Thompson a hall of fame coach was amazing. Brown made that errand pass to Worthy it was terrible. I was a Junior at UNC and was fortunate to be at the game because the guy that supposed to be there caught mono. So he gave me the whole package . What they don't show is Thompson not screaming and hollering at Brown but as a Dad he hugged him and whisper something in his ear . What Brown said he told him we will get them before Ewing leaves. I recall that turnover getting the Bill Buckner treatment with constant replays for a few years until the the actual Bill Buckner play and then Chris Webber. Also it seems like as Jordan became more of an icon, this game went from the the Fred Brown gaffe game to the Jordan shot game. I had actually forgotten about Jordan making that shot until I saw one of those ESPN sportscentury documentaries in the late nineties where they spent 10 minutes talking about Jordan's shot and totally cut out everything that happened after that. As you can see in this video, the shot was with more than 15 seconds left. I don't recall any other famous game-winner with close to that much time left. This one is only a big deal because Jordan made it.

After watching Air and Last Dance I looked this up. After the winning shot MJ also positioned himself very well defensively… Anyone think that when Worthy stole it and ran down the court he could have laid it up and over Freddie Brown (GTown 20) for Michael to dunk? Or was he too well guarded? (Not a basketball fundi)

Odd they never mention this was in the Superdome and UNC rarely loses a title game in this building, if ever.

The sound of the net when Jordan makes that shot sounded so wet. In a place where there's so much noise the crowd, the band and it's crazy you can hear the swoosh so clear when Michael hits that shot. I swear it's the most beautiful sound in basketball when it goes through hitting nothing but net.

There was no shot clock back then?
@leogetz3570
@leogetz3570 Год назад
nope, or 3 pt line. College was definitely different back then. The Houston Cougars used the "no shot clock" to their advantage the next 2 years by building a lead then just passing the ball around for as long as possible to run the clock out

MJ actually saved the game TWICE. The shot first. And then on defense, he completely saved worthy from ruining the defensive plan. When Worthy cheats and tries to get that steal, the defense completely collapses with 9 seconds left. Its because of MJ backing up a bit to take away the cut in the middle. Worthy is actually STILL at the top not in any type of defensive situation. UNC could have easily given up a bucket on that play, as it was essentially a 4 on 5 with worthy out of the picture, even for just those few seconds.

Still remember watching this game! I was about 15. I never jumped so high when MJ made that shot. All the news media talked about before game was Patrick Ewing.

The young man who would become a legend would hit the game winning shot for a North Carolina National Championship. Michael Jordan was a complete monster on a basketball court. Note : James Worthy was on this team and was a senior.
