Dude, you said it. How does a guy going from being the most athletically gifted player at that time to its most lethal midrange shooter and dominant post player? By 1996-97, he was pretty much average athletically as far as NBA SGs (he still had the giant hands, though). He just learned how to use footwork and angles to his advantage.

'91-93 Jordan was the most balanced blend of his freakish athleticism and driving aggressiveness with his long-developed lethal technique, footwork, and mid-range game. But '96 Jordan to the end of his career was basically Picasso with a paintbrush who will either get you a guaranteed bucket in the post/mid-range or a beautiful last-second assist. The 90s wasn't ready for post-Detroit Mike.

MJ got to his spots & scored at will. He's kind of like Kevin Durant with his style of play just having no wasted motions & scoring easily but MJ is way more active off the ball, has more footwork, less dribbling, didnt use a lot of unnecessary moves but had enough counters if needed if the defense telegraphed any of his moves and was more aggressive offensively constantly putting pressure on the defense by shooting a high volume of shots & still being effecient. With all the spacing in todays NBA, players have a lot of freedom to do different dribbling packages. Durant dribbles a lot often using different packages like crossovers & hesi dribbles. KD doesnt over-dribble a lot to the degree of a Harden or does indecisive dribbling like a Kyrie; KD is straight to the point wit his dribbling but even when he dribbles the offense still becomes stagnant & it becomes typical ISO ball with everyone watching before KD creates separation from a crossover or gets a defender offbalence wit a hesi move. MJ in the triangle offense never really ISOed, actually nobody really ISOed, if MJ brought the ball up he initiated the offense by feeding the ball in the post or finding an open cutter & after MJ did that he moved without the ball to generate an open shot for himself. If MJ actually had to do anything off the dribble, never really used a crossover at all, probably would only crossover people once in a while, most of the time it was a quick side to side two dribble move & then he scored. Only dribbling move MJ did was a hesi move but MJ didnt need to a lot of dribbling before he did his hesi like a KD, MJ just did the hesi in a quick decisive way without really doin a dribble package. KD has a habit of standing in the corner when he doesnt have the ball which isnt necessarily a bad thing because your still generating a lot of space standing in the corner & corner 3s open up the offense but its still lazy to a degree cause when your standing in the corner its like your giving up on the play. MJ was never satisfied trying to creating offense, if MJ didnt get the ball he moved without the ball constantly trying to get the ball back creating an opportunity for his team or himself. Also MJ is better getting paint shots & midrange shots, KD relies more on 3s & 3s are more streaky. U can argue KD is more efficient wit how he scores & he scores more easily wit his height & overall shooting ability & I think in a actual one on one game KD would beat MJ. But basketball isnt just 1 on 1, within the game MJ is a better scorer wit his mentality & his complete arsenal.

The reality is though that when you look at ALL the stats, his numbers are the best overall. Media and LBJ fans are facetious. LBJ has longevity stats over MJ and that's pretty much it. Total points doesn't mean much except that LBJ has already played much longer than MJ. When you look at per game statistics and countless other areas, MJ is still the greatest. This numbers argument is asinine and usually it's some kid that is regurgitating ESPN bs without actually knowing the specifics. LBJ's numbers are not better than MJ's overall, period. And that's not even assessing for the ease of scoring on today's NBA or how there are more possessions per game and more free throws per game. Countless more foul calls etc. And playoff and Finals numbers - all MJ. He has 40+ playoffs and Finals records. The most by far. Bill Russell is number two with 15 records. It's not even close. LBJ barely registers with less than 10. I could go on and on. The numbers argument by ESPN is one of countless lies today's media is willing to tell for the sake of enriching themselves and the NBA. Thank You - media makes so much of passing while conveniently ignoring how LBJ's passing is a function of the position he plays. He's the only playmaker and controlling 90% of his team's possessions is his job and the nature of the Cavs system. MJ played in the Triangle which spreads passing around to create shots and he was the shooting guard, a back court player that played off the ball. He's supposed to have less assists - but his passing ability with his huge hands that gripped the ball is better than LBJ's, period. It's all about pushing narratives today by corporate media. They're trying to make money.

Peter Regal actually it was 93 to 97 it was shortened. Mj dislocated a finger on his shooting hand before 98 season so he was ineffective from 3.

His 3pt percentage went due to him playing with torn ligaments in his index finger. Not because they moved the line back. He shot 38% from the original line in 89. He also only attempted a little over 100 3’s the entire season in 98. Every year he shot bad from 3 was due to him not attempting enough 3’s to get a rhythm. When he attempted at 2.5 a game he shot high 30’s-40’s. But he never relied on the 3ball.

My point was to highlight how modern relaxed perimeter defenses allow for a lot more 3 pointers than in the golden era of hoops. Here is a sick mental exercise: Imagine Larry Bird’s 3 point game in the modern of matador (Ole!) defense instead of in the hand checking, perimeter-mugging defense of the golden age. Larry Legend could easily shoot .500 or higher from 3 point land in today’s game.

Well, today they have taken away the physicality that used to exist. The player nowadays don't have to think their way through games. They depend on their athleticism a bit too much.

Dirk's fader is different, technically to Jordan's. So they're right when they say that. He usually shot it one-legged, using it to create separation from the defender. Plus he is like 7ft with a high release, so his shot was just different to Jordan. Kobe is the one that really copied MJs fader. Hell, even Hakeem in the late 80s and all of the 90s had a devastating fader that he abused more than the dreamshake.
