Why can't our star athletes these days be more like Michael? He was not just a great player but an all around stand up guy. A good person with good values makes a great player an even better one.
When he realize scoring wasnt everything, and started to improve his teammates more, it was done. The Bulls could not be stopped anymore. Unfortunately, majority of fans think scoring is everything and ppg equals greatness. How clearly not true. Winining - Greatness.
As well as scoring he was just great at every aspect of the game. Kobe is good but he is just a scorer and is kept from committing fouls. MJ on teh other hand did everything. Arguably the most influential, greatest athlete of all time. He gets my vote.
kobe went thru the same thing in the beginning once shaq left. scored a lot of points but kept losing games. ppl said he was to selfish. now he passes the ball and win championchips..1 less then jordan..
6:20. That is why MJ had such difficulty. The Pistons didn't give a shit about his teammates cuz they knew they didn't have what it took. And they were right. It wasn't up to Michael to beat the Pistons. It was up to his teammates to rise to the occasion and do their part so that they could all get over the hump.
I really hate this; "oh Jordan didn't know how to win yet all he was doing was scoring then" argument. According to Bill Simmons the guy averaged seven assists for his career before pippen was there, and then averaged five assists after pippen arrived. People said, "Finally Jordan sees that one guy can't win it every year, that he has to get his teammates involved, he finally sees that" Sure, but you can't 'see it' if your teammates suck.
I hate to say it but in those days Iseah Thomas and folks knew how to neutralize Jordan, they did it for 3 straight years...Jordan learned form this to be a better team player and the rest is history!!!
@teddy89pony actually he picked number 23 because his real number was 45 however that was taken by his brother in high school so he halfed 45 (22.5) and rounded up to 23. I think the whole shot clock theory is kobe's idea for his number (24)
'a scoring champion doesn't win titles...which drove me nuts' because it's true, and he knew it was true Wilt Chamberlain, 50 PPG for the 1961-62 Philadelphia Warriors Got bounced by the Celtics that year. Bill Russell averaged 19 pts a game that year & 5 other Celtics averaged double figures It's a team game, the team with the best player doesn't win-the best team does Wilt had 25 rebounds a game to go with 50 points a game-MJ doesn't even come close to that kind of season long dominance
that was also the thing with the bulls, if you double-teamed jordan, he was going to pass to pippen, and scottie was a silent assassin. 2nd best player of its time.
Notice he, the ultimate winner (or maybe after Bill Russell) shook hands with Dumars @ 5:45. And that was actually his three straight loss playoff to the Pistons. That's gamesmanship. I hope LeBron does not do what he did against Orland again (not shaking hands). He is a great athlete and individual, ideal role models for kids.
Isaiah Thomas was the lich during the early season for Jordan then Jordan become the lich and then Kobe but after Dirk from Germany won the championship it has become unpredictable who will win next. yeah Dirk for destroying the balance!!!!!
The inly reason lebron had better assists is, jordan passed when needed, lebron passed because he was NOT clutch.. period. Jordan adjusted to let his team shine and picked up the missing pieces as a LEADER should!... amazing athlete.
@BIGxVIET Can you give me a good reason beyond the way he ditched his team? I mean the way he did it was foul but everyone makes mistakes. But one thing I can't stand is how S.Pipen said he would be better than Jordan.
Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon, still a fantastic pick as Hakeem was amazing was taken with the 1st pick, i'm not sure Houston regrets that.. Sam Bowie on the other hand picked Nr. 2 by Portland... not that great a career for him
@jaronious89 actually, LeBron singlehandedly beat the Pistons, in 2007. Why would MJ have taken his talents to South Beach when he was drafted by the 3rd largest market in the US and he had Scottie Pippen & Horace Grant on his team by his 4th year?
i kno i'm gonna say it but doesnt about 3/4 of this vid remind you of a certain nba superstar ryt now 'we dont kno if he had enough to elevate his team to the championship'
not necessarily. the pistons actually made michael the great player he was to win 6 championships after. He would have lost to the lakers. He might have beaten the trailblaizers in 90 though.
