The reason Michael Jordan retired to go to baseball is his father wanted him to play baseball more than anything growing up and they had talked about it before his death. He was so close to his father that he just felt it was something he had to do. What helped at that point was he was burnt out on Basketball. 3 nba champions, olympic gold, he never did anything but win and he was bored.

Jordan didn't trash talk much, but what he did is take every single slight he heard from any opponent and use it to fuel him to beat that guy. It got to the point where he actually made up stories about someone in his head so he would have reason to want to crush them. Plus he really did trash talk his teammates and drove them incredibly hard. Some actually hated him, but in the end most knew the rings on their fingers were all because of Michael. I'm sure someone else has already mentioned it but the documentary "The Last Dance" about The Bulls final championship run and primarily about Jordan is as great a sports doc as you will ever see.

He retired for less than two seasons. He returned with 15 or so games left in the 1994-95 season. He wore #45 only for the remainder of that season. He went back to wearing #23 for following season. The three years the narrator mentioned was in reference to the Bulls being basketball royalty during their first three-peat (1991-1993).

Remember he did change the his number back to 23 during the playoffs series with the Orlando Magic. Nick Anderson made the mistake of saying 45 isn’t better than 23 after game 1 and that very next game he went back to 23.

I grew up watching Jordan every guy in my highschool was wearing his jersey. It was a thing of beauty. In today's game theres no way anyone could touch him. I put Kobe above LeBron, but even then I still think Jordan comes out on top 100% of the time. It's always fun watching them react to Jordans highlights most of them really had no idea how good he actually was.

It's difficult to explain just how great the Jordan era was bc we watched it live and it was electric. Pippin and Jordan were like a hand and glove situation and Jordan knew he needed Pippen and Scottie rose to the challenge. MJ bulked up bc he was getting seriously beaten by other teams, but he never stopped going down the middle into all of them. He had that charming smile, but he was a killer on the court.

I was and still am a huge Boston Celtics fan, but Jordan was the one athlete who was so transcendent that I became a Bulls fan as long as he was there (and not playing the Celts, which was easy because Larry Bird's career was ending just as Jordan was getting started, and the Celts ceased to be contenders after that). I think Michael Jordan may be the only player in any sport who was clearly the most athletic, the most competitive, the smartest, and the most clutch all in one person.
@cindymatthewsarrowdalearts6449
I was thinking as I watched this that MJ worked hard to build his body into the perfect basketball machine. He got truly buff and sculpted his physique to be strong, reliable, quick to recover - and he didn't go overboard and make himself into a monster body that wouldn't fit basketball. Some guys who train hard to build themself up and to be come better players just go too far and kind of outsmart themselves.

2:36 In the early 80s power forwards/centers who could post-up and rebound were highly coveted. That's how the game was played in that era. Everybody wanted a player like Buck Williams or Terry Cummings. Sam Bowie appeared to be the next great player in that mold. Plus, Portland needed a big man. Selecting a guard as a high draft pick was considered risky. That's why they passed on MJ.

"The Flu game." A lot of people didn't know this at the time, but what they really think happened was that the game was in Utah, and MJ had a few people in his room playing poker. Jordan said he was hungry and decided to order a pepperoni pizza. The pizza was delivered to his hotel room, and he asked if anyone else wanted some of the food. No one else ate it and Jordan ate the entire pizza. Later that night Jordan called the Bulls trainer at like 3AM and told him to come to his hotel room he wasn't feeling well. By the time the trainer got to the room Jordan was lying on the bathroom floor in the fetal position. They believe someone from the restaurant used expired food or put something on the pizza to make him sick, knowing that it was going to Jordan in order to try and help the Utah Jazz win the game.

Jordan wore the number 45 when he came back toward the tail end of the 1994-95 season and switched back to 23 after Jordan had a bad game 1, giving away two critical turnovers in the last 2 minutes and Nick Anderson of the Magic dissed him after the game saying "Number 45 is not number 23." Jordan came back in game 2 with the number 23 and smoked the Magic. Eh problem with Michael Phelps is that he won the most in swimming, but Spitz won the most that was possible to win in the sport when he won -- there weren't as many medals in the 70s / as many events. It wasn't possible to win as many as Phelps won back then, so that's more of a conversation of eras. But with Jordan, other players have had chances (and even have won more championships), but it's more about the overall stats and accolades combined, and how good he was overall, not just how many he won.
