WOW! My mouth was literally opened in awe. I'm 34, and remember watching these 2, but I guess I forgot just how good they were. Lebron may end up being best ever with his strength and size and better all around game, but Kobe, now way, MJ was unstoppable. And Barkley..there's no one in the game today that even comes close. He was such a freakin beast and only 6'5.
Jordan was dynamite during the 87 season as he was back from injury but too selfish on the court, a true scoring machine that did not understand yet how serve his team.
Barkley is the biggest freak of nature ever, hes so explosive its unreal. Its a shame kids these days will see him on tell and think that fat guy cant do shit. Little do they know he was the fastest power forward ever whats he gets in motion.
Barkley is so underrated. Best Power Forward ever. Would have had a couple rings if he played in today's game instead of in the 90's when the competition was this good.
@jhandyjosue SI , tenia un juego muy agresivo parecia k no le tenia miedo a ningun jugador, definitivamente era mejor defensivo k jordan,, ademas de mejor reboteador.
Duncan was a Better Shot Blocker Paint Defender....but Everything Else from Floor Defense, Steals, Passing, Creating, Rebounding, Post Play, Handles, Mid Range Shooting, Driving to the Basket, Coast to Coasts and Clutch Shooting Barkley Was Better than Duncan and Malone
@guidi2005 Better than Malone and Ewing (Malone used to get outplayed before Barkley was injured post 1995. Hakeem, Barkley and MJ where the Best in the Late 80s and early 90s
can you envision what a coast to coast nightmare CB would have been in the 3 brick league..maybe 15 to 20 ppg just barrelling down the other team from defensive board to gorilla dunk!!!
Chicago 108 @ Philly 117 March 11th 1987 Jordan 49pts 8rbd 7ast 2stl 4blk 44mins played 57% shooting 10/11 free throws Barkley 31pts 12rbd 3ast 1stl 2blk 44mins played 75% shooting 12/13 free throws Chuck is a legend...heart and soul of the Dream...and because of youtube and old footage even the kids today know he's no clown...in fact what's wrong with clowns? I've seen IT and it's just Tim Curry! Ginobli watches the old footage on youtube shouting BARKLEY every rebound and shot made.FACT
Barkley was a freak of nature, but also his back started failing him in the 90's. By the time he was traded then to the suns, he was 70% of the player he was. Hence why he lived more shots outside the paint and one on one plays and his speed has diminished. But Duncan is still best PF of all time with his efficiency and the ability to take over games when needed. Not to say barkley didn't have games where he took over as well.
@FrsBigeasy No diss on Barkley, he was one of the best players of the late 80s early 90s, no question...a freak of nature on the boards. But the way i see it was even though he had the numbers, he was not the same as Jordan, or Thomas, those guys were captains...and every team needs a true leader to win. I think that Barkley's Suns were a better team then the Bulls, but Jordan was the difference, Barkley tried, but he could not match Jordan.
i dunno, they're just different. tim duncan is over 7 inches taller than Barkley, so their strengths are vastly different. duncan also lives a lot more cleanly than barkley did, who ate terribly and drank a ton of beer except for the two seasons of 92-3 and 93-4.
Yeah it was a NASTY dunk alright! Barkley's best dunk was against Mutombo in the All Star game, forgot what year. He caught the ball in the paint, took 1 step and dunked right over Mutombo (who was trying his best to block it). Poor Mutombo went sprawling to the ground as Barkley stared at him.
this era of Basketball and all tru the 90's had so much talent and smart individual players who certainly knew the art of this sport... i would rather watch a complete game of this than the overgrown buffoons of players that currently play in the NBA. Good ol memories..
You do know what you're talking about right? Who can rival him as a total athlete who can just turn the game by himself? Who can rival his heart, which people mistake for his unmotivation when he's slacking off? Who in his prime can be his equal with what he is capable of?
pre 3peat jordan was so fun to watch. actually prior to the bulls knocking off 3, the league sort of was suggesting that robinson, drexler, ewing, barkley were all just as much in contention to take over in the 90s. wow, look at how history turned out
"By the time he was traded then to the suns, he was 70% of the player he was." Really? I thought it was conventional wisdom that Barkley was at his peak in the first two years of his Suns tenure, even better than he was on the 76ers.
Oh how I MISS these guys!!! The NBA was GREAT in those days. Boring as hell today compared to back then. I saw more intensity in this game then I did in tonight's game (Eastern Conf. Finals, Game 7 Celtics at Miami). More intensity and better players.
ok that move that he tries at about 2:54 is maybe the most amazing ever attempted in an NBA game...he goes thru a double team by dribbling behind his back, then catches up to the ball, skies, does a windmill left handed shot...that misses.
either he is 6'4 or 6'6 he is still quite short for the pf position. but his athleticism, will power and skill were hard to be compared with. barkley is always a good example of how athleticism can not be measured by how developed ones body muscles are.
Barkley is like Hanamichi Control the rebound control the game!!! but it's hard when MJ is attacking on the other end. Just realized Hanamichi is Barkley How did he get so many rebounds? Heart that's how!!!
@88shaneB Oh ya of course he played a very important role in those bulls championships...cannot argue with that...he really understood how to make players be content with filling roles (the most important thing a coach can do)
@DeAthPKeR100 ...Micheal played the 2 guard or the point...you don't want your guards down under the blocks bangin with the bigs...they should be at the outlet and transistioning the fast break
Barkley: 22ppg, 11.7rpg, 4apg, 1.5spg career avgs. But he could not make his players better then Bird and Magic could...those two guys had better teams, but they were also better leaders.
There should be more videos of this kind, so that people can have a glimpse at how amazing MJs competition was, such as Barkley, Wilkins, Drexler, Hakeem, etc. Great job medestinier!
He was 6'6". In shoes but they dont measure in shoes. He was actually 6'4" 3/4. And even tho Duncan is a great power forward Barkley is the better all around player.
It would be cool to see Bryant/James play Jordan/Barkley two on two when they were in their prime--be interesting I would put money on Jordan & Barkley-
