You shouldn't just bounce after reading scores or skip his reviews. He puts a hell of a lot of time into each video on a day-to-day basis, likely hours upon hours in terms of listening, writing notes etc. really disrespectful to not even be able to give the man less than 10 minutes of your day haha
blue flannel means 6 to 8, making it the "positive review" flannel. There has NEVER been one review with the blue flannels that doesn't follow this pattern.
So, the red is below-average, the street clothes is average, the blue or orange flannel is a 7, and the yellow is the godlike. The universe is expanding.
Thought an 8 would be the score Fantano would go for. Can see why he’s critical about some of the interludes though. For me, it’s a 9, and my album of the year.
I started listening to when I heard Final Frame on the Craig Charles radio show. Then I bought a ticket to see him at Royal Albert Hall at his first performance there. Now again I have seen him earlier this month directly in front of me on stage where he was performing down the road from where I live. (Me so lucky!)
Oh man! You didn't like "I've Been Dazed"?!? Best song on the album. Sometimes I agree with your taste & sometimes I don't, but I didn't expect you to not get this song. It's great!
Fully agree, I’ve Been Dazed very much shines through on the album. And it’s just a fantastic album so that speaks quite loudly about the beauty of that song. You sir have great taste 🙂
I'm happy you reviewed this. Kiwanuka is one of the best artists in the UK. But can we give a shout to Inflo who also had a hand in producing. Not just Dangermouse
Second Bluethony Flannelthano Anthony, what about leaving the blue flannel to 7-8 ratings The Orange flannel 5-6 ratings The Red Flannel 4-below And save the yellow flannel for 9-10's, so, if we see it, we know is an AOTY
Thanks for reviewing this. I really like Michael Kiwanuka, and really enjoyed this album. Overall, I think I like Love & Hate more than this album, but some very solid tracks on here. Close to a top 5 album this year.
Speaking in general : The artist can do no wrong within their own work, hopefully they’ve done everything they can to bring out absolutely everything they could. It may not be amazing it may not be perfect for whatever medium they are using but if you listen to it and feel something, if it moves you in some way and it’s not just a money grab and run attempt then it’s art and it’s beautiful in its own right. All art forums take a life time they won’t have everything amazing or perfect for everyone but you can appreciate their hard work and determination and support them.
thanks for pulling the plug on Grams. it was weird how you came into the room uninvited, she wasn't even in a coma it was just a check up. thanks again
I remember getting one of this guy's singles on iTunes for free back in like 2012 or something. I believe it was titled, "Home Again" and I've been a fan ever since!
no no no not this man hating on Interlude (loving the people). That 2 minutes is pure peace and happiness, beautiful and transcendent. With the John Lewis speech sample!! And the way Final Days leads us into it DAMNNNN ugh so powerful. It's my favorite part of the album. Changed my life so...BRO U asking for a music nerd fight? 😠 Ill give u one 😾🤝🤨
I almost completely agree with you on all of this. I feel less strongly about the interludes, but they do take away from the pacing of the album. Surprised you didn't make the comparison between his cadence and Anthony Kiedis' cadence on some tracks on this album.
Blue means the album isn’t yellow worthy but the artist is progressing past their previous work and the record is likely to be remembered as a career making turning point.
What is missing in this review is the fact that this is very close to a concept album, which also explains the interludes. The album should be listened to as a whole. But I liked this review, it’s an honest opinion and it is very well explained. I really like “I’ve been dazed” because of the layering: the slow build-up to goose-bumps for me. I don’t necessarily agree on all points, but then again.. who does?
