It's about revenue share and the ability to make money off their names... Why do coaches get paid more than most players if it's all about how much money the league makes?

The WNBA players don't generate revenue for the WNBA to same level the NBA players generate revenue for the NBA, why would the revenue share be the same? Regarding the players making money off their names, the league is financially unstable and doesn't make a profit, the only reason league exists because it is supported by the NBA. If the WNBA can't generate enough money to cover its costs, is it in a position to allow the players to make money outside league without the WNBA getting their cut? Regarding the coaches getting paid more, why shouldn't the coaches be paid more? The coaches have more options to work elsewhere, they can go work in colleges or in the NBA, the coaches need to be paid enough to attract them to work in WNBA. The players don't have an alternative league that is willing to pay more.

I've been to a few WNBA games and tbh it's not a good product. The tickets were around $75 each for lower level seats. I also live in the Dallas area so we have an NBA team, a G League team, 3 NCAA D1 programs, and numerous HS and AAU programs. As a Hooper and a Coach the WNBA is competing in the same space as all those other programs. Why can I get Mavs, Legends, TCU, UNT and SMU tickets for less than WNBA. Hell the Wings play at UT Arlington and those tickets are less.
My 9 year old niece plays and loves basketball. Her father is a bulls fan, uncle myself lakers fans. She a golden state fan (curry). My brother tried to get her to watch a WNBA game because he wanted to take her to a game. She instantly said why are they so slow, she asked if it was professional, she said it was boring. She asked her dad to change it and put on Kobe highlights. If young girls can’t stand to watch the WNBA something is wrong.
Thats because most young girls play sports boys brothers cousins and are forced to keep up in order to play i hate to say it but if a woman that played basketball against men from childhood to college she would dominate the wnba because she would be stronger and more physical then the other females
The women college basketball tournament got a bunch of views. Is the game the same no. Wnba is slower but there is more team work lest iso I think it is way more technical albeit less skilled if that makes any sense.

In baseball there are a bunch. Part of marketing is being able to craft great stories to keep the fans intrigued. Boxing and sports in the past was 80% that before the TV was invented. Ppl watch street ballers playing bums and that gets millions of views I can confirm women NBA players are better then a good amount of those people. The WNBA will always be less popular than the NBA but the discrepancy doesn't have to be this bad. Same with the g league. The NBA is just fumbling

It’s NOT a pay gap between men and women in professional basketball, it’s a matter of getting paid based on the revenue generated from the specific sport. It’s like saying a sales person who sells $10,000 per year should get paid the same as a sales person who sells $10,000,00 per year, because they are both sales people.
He made one of the best points anyone has made. "Just because you're good at something doesn't mean you get paid a lot for it". They might be good players but they don't generate the money. They act like they deserve something just because they're female and the men make a lot.

I’m a sports 24/7 kinda guy. I watch the WNBA only when Vegas or NY are playing. And that’s if nothing else is on. I watch a ton of NCAA women’s. Iowa, LSU, UCONN and USC.
Any woman who thinks his remarks were disrespectful refuses to see the reality of it. He was actually being as respectful to them as players as he could possibly be, while also being honest about the economics of it. So of course, women got mad 😅

I don't hear men's college basketball and gymnastics athletes complaining that they aren't getting paid millions in NIL money like Angel Reese and Olivia because it's understood that they are the main attractions in their sports and the money they're paid reflects this.
I took my 10 year old daughter to a wnba game about 7 years ago in Dallas. The place was empty. We were on the second level and were able to hear the players & coaches talking. Thats how boring & unexciting these things are

Even in high school, for the most part, the boys basketball team are usually more competitive and popular than the girls team. It’s all about the numbers.

Its true though. Its like comparing 6th grade football to Varsity football. I have never had one person come tell me they were excited to watch a WNBA game.
Unfortunately there are no real outlets for women in professional team sports and there never will be. So I think most women athletes will just strive to attain the highest competitive levels they can in college. This certainly makes the college game that much more fun to watch AND the ladies can complete their education at the end of the day.
Actually - that's not true. There are some WNBA players that actually do think they should be paid just as much as NBA players. Some of them actually think they could beat a player 1-on-1. Griner said she could be DeMarcus Cousins. I remember a few players questioning why Harrison Barnes made so much money. So, there's an ego check that needs to happen first.

I've watched the wnba since 1997. Majority of the fans are men my age. This country is mostly womenand women control spending in america. Women don't support the WNBA or female sports in mass. They would rather watch Keeping up with the Kardashians, Real Housewives, love and hip hop, etc etc. If you show interest and watch the games the TV deals will come in. If you go to the games, more money will be spend on merchandise, food, etc etc.

The WNBA has been existence for almost 25 years, and not one single team has been able to turn a profit. in fact, the NBA has to subsidize them to get a tax write off for the owners
I’ve watched more pro Snooker tournaments than non-finals WNBA games. Culturally for whatever reason, both men and women dont care about women’s sports. Its a cultural thing that needs to be fixed before we talk about total income. Until then all we can really do is give them a bigger slice of their total revenue. Now imagine if we paid them 7% like the men’s teams. That would be a national story.
The funny thing is there’s a video of a guy asking a bunch of women to name their favorite WNBA team and they couldn’t name a single one (even from their own city). I doubt that Alexis from Vegas is any different
