One thing women tend to forget (WNBA) is that they are on average shorter than men so it would naturally be more difficult for them to dunk like the men do.

so what WNBA players routinely neglect to mention in regards to their CBA and revenue sharing is that their CBA DOES have a provision to raise revenue sharing to 50%, but only IF total revenue exceeds x amount. Basically, i they want more money they should focus on growing their league more and stop trying to shake down the NBA for even more money than they already do.

I’ve played on a 10ft rim most of my life. Lowered it to 9 and my shooting improved. If you’re a real baller lowing the rim won’t hurt you. They could at least try and see how it goes. Just try!! Shouldn't matter how righteous the WNBA players feel about the rims, the persons in charge of making change are the owners and the WNBA commissioner. The players will get over it real quick. "Now I have to relearn the game, to appease people who don't want to watch it for what it is.". YES, basketball is ENTERTAINMENT, so yes you need to appease people, because it's those people who pay for tickets and watch the games so you can get paid. There are a few WNBA stars who have made themselves more marketable. Even some NBA stars make more money marketing and side hussles than playing the game. Being angry, wearing protest clothes, and saying we aren't valued doesn't help make yourself marketable. I'm still blown away the WNBA makes as much money as it does... Based on the laws of supply and demand, WNBA players should have to pay to play. There is zero demand and negative profits. They should introduce “profit sharing” instead of revenue sharing, and receive an invoice rather than a paycheque.

The game of basketball was invented in 1891. They used to use Soccer balls and had to remain stationary when they had the ball while using peach baskets for hoops. Naismith invented the game and the 10 ft hoop was because of where he could hang the peach baskets in the facility he was in. Honestly, if we didn’t have NBA players with an average height of 6’5” and above I would be for lowering the rim height for the men’s game too. As a matter of fact, it would be kind of cool to see different amateur leagues where max height rules for players is instituted by position, and the rim is lowered. Could make for really fun low budget and local leagues. If such a thing happened, I anticipate that one could get a solid following for amateur leagues around the country, and one of those products could potentially replace the WNBA. Not because they’re more talented, but because they’re more entertaining. It’s not all about talent; you have to provide a product that puts butts in seats. It’s also theatre without a known outcome. The gladiator aspect is partially why we watch.

Lower the rim by a foot, the game isn't about dunking but is about entertainment. If they don't like the foot, then make it the difference in averages of height and verticle jump height and make it scaled based on that difference. They can easily learn to shoot on a lower hoop, everyone is blowing that entirely out of proportion. Watch LethalShooter make hoops using anything they really would only need an offseason to prepare. the key point here is what Bill Burr and others have stated. women cannot request more money because they do not generate it. women as a gender do not watch much basketball. they prefer other things like desperate housewives and stuff like that. nothing to criticize, but the money follows attention. So, since men are overwhelmingly the majority of the audience, you can therefore refer to men as the main customer. as we all know, a business must be dedicated to its customers. That is why desperate housewives has a content that satisfies women interest, because they are the main customer while NBA has a product that mostly satisfy men. so, either you say women basketball is an activity mainly dedicated to women who want to play basketball without any consideration for remuneration, in other words, not a business, or we can agree it should be a business. well, if the later applies, when men say they want a change in the product, if you want to satisfy your customers, then you cannot simply say it is mansplaining. the customers are speaking and letting you know what they want. it is not a notch down on women, it is what men want to watch. you cannot force a customer to consume your product, you need your customer to want to consume it. in other words, you have 2 solutions: 1- Ensure more women watch WNBA the way it is instead of watching other things 2- Adapt your product to satisfy your potential customers, which are men it is not about equality. you could talk about equality if both products have similar viewership and someone gets paid less just because of gender. It is about economics. plain and simple.

They want the ability to receive the same revenue percentage as the NBA but don’t want to compromise anything whatsoever for a league that hasn’t made money in over a corner of a century. Plus it’s funny to call men sexist for making suggestions on how to make the league more popular and tell them to watch the games. Does they not know that men watch more of your games than women do? The players have friends and family members who aren’t men I’m sure. Ask them to tune in, the men are already watching. That’s why they’re chiming in at this point.

It's still a classic supply/demand thing. What is left out of this discussion is the long NBA history of player pay that has evolved over several decades into what it is now. That evolution incudes all of it, promotional deals, revenue sharing, whatever. For the WNBA to come in at the ground level, with a much shorter history than the NBA, and expect to get paid without the same evolutionary process is selfish and delusional.

A free throw is the most nerve wracking thing. Just the suspense of seeing if a player will make it in a tied game with tenths of a second remaining in a fourth quarter.

This will all never change. The trifecta of bad business, common sense, and these women's ego (they have to have this ego to be great I don't mean that in a neg way) will never triagulate to make this work.

Big moments in the NBA came when Wilt Chamberlain dunked his dominance all over and when Michael Jordon entered the league. Having a different height for a completely different league would be entertaining. However, the same changes would need to be incorporated in college and HS games.

All female WNBA players should have to enroll in College economic classes and must pass as part of their contracts. In addition a class to better understand how a capitalist country grows wealth would be beneficial. At this point most should be more open to changes for their league to prosper. 1 the obvious lower the hoop,2 shorten the length,3 slam dunks are 4point plays . If these players have a tough time with adjustments to match the men’s game,I’ve yet to hear any complain their basketball isn’t the same size.

Something I don’t think gets talked about at all is that WNBA players feel like they deserve everything NBA players have. The NBA didn’t start as a cash cow, it took a while for it to become what it is today. Although it’s the same game, ultimately it’s not the same product on the court. I think WNBA players should stop comparing themselves to NBA players in a compensation stand point because they’re literally not in the same level. They should think of the future of what their league could be and how they can get to that point, but demanding things without the work will not resolve anything. I feel like WNBA players feel entitled to more money without earning it and ultimately we will keep hearing this same argument until the WNBA gets terminated, sold, or they get more money after media backlash with a product thats the same as today and that will unfortunately be the leagues demise.

I'd call it defensiveness more then ego. They always feel attacked so they have no real conversations because they always defend instead of talk. The same percentage of revenue, means way smaller money for them, since their league makes no money. It's fair in a context, if they aren't profitable they get no money. If they are, they get more. It'll change their focus to the true betterment of their league. I think it would be great to have the guys play the women every 10 games or so, and track the women's progress.

I’m not sure dunking is what’s going to grow the game but who knows. Just try it out for a few years, the NBA shorted the 3 point line in the mid 90s for a few seasons I don’t remember the men complaining. Instead of complaining they started taking more 3s and were killing it so they forced the NBA to move it back.

Even if they played on a lower rim, they won't get more viewers or raise attendance. A lower rim doesn't make them faster or more athletic. They game would still be slower and guys still wouldn't watch. And they would be criticized by people saying, "They're only doing that because they lowered the rim." It's a lose-lose for them.

I feel like lowering the rim to get women to dunk is a good idea, but as said it changes a lot for those who're already in the league, since outside shot percentage are gonna drop until they get used to it, so current players will always be opposed to it since it changes their habits. The bigger problem I feel is that every court in gyms, parks, hell even home hoops are set at the standard 10 feet, so it could reduce the amount of home-grown talent and get fewer women playing pickup ball (already rare but it happens).

I think when you work on anything your entire life and people try to make changes that you feel are unnecessary, it will always result in this. I don’t think it’s fair to truly consider that change, especially when the reason is an attempt to appeal to more people.

Lowering the rim would be the perfect solution, unfortunately pride won't allow it. I grew up a Comets fans and wish that the WNBA was more entertaining. Fans like to see strong acts of competitiveness, there games feel like watching high school games. You only know a few faces and you assume that most of the other team is bad except MAYBE 1 or 2 players.
