I will give The Legend Reborn this: the characters actually look like the sets they're based on, and didn't have to animate every pin turning in the torso like they did. 👍
The one time they should have made the characters more organic, they instead made them even more robotic by going for near toy accuracy. So I disagree with that Legend Reborn take.
Was kinda expecting that last one for Legend Reborn. Lot more lighter and softer in tone, plus characters didn't really have too much dimension, and the music wasn't even done by Nathan Furst.
Not to mention that it went *_TOO_* toy-accurate with the character designs. The Bara Magna inhabitants were described as being organic with a lot of cybernetics, but the movie made them look entirely robotic. Not to mention the teeth.
That's about right. Gotta say I loved Mata Nui's voice in Legend Reborn though. Only thing stopping it from being worse than, say, the Playmobil movie.
Legend Reborn is alright. I'm mainly miffed that the Glatorian don't actually look organic and that we got Legend Reborn instead of an ignition trilogy movie.
The only organic thing I could find on the Glatorian from The Legend Reborn was the *teeth* Imagine crying when Matoro’s sacrifice would happen in Ignition 2
I do wish we got an ignition trilogy film series, the animators could do some crazy shit with the visuals for those, also that was just peak Bionicle IMO so it'd be cool to have some movies made of that series just cause(just my dumb opinion)
@@HordikaNate3821 If I was 6 watching it, I'd be confused or focusing on cool bonkle fighting, only to rewatch it a few years later to bawl my eyes out
I loved Legend Reborn as a 11 year old, watched it multiple time. Watched recently again, still liked it. Its a good movie and the internet cannot tell otherwise
TLR was certainly a thing. I find it a lot more interesting to watch knowing a lot of the production was by Threshold Studios-- y'know, the guys behind Foodfight and the Bobbleheads movie. TLR is godlike in comparison. I do think Threshold's cartoony but set-accurate style fit Hero Factory a lot better, even if those aren't masterpieces.
Haha, I know the "nice" meme but I haven't seen the full video before so the twist was pretty surprising Like others, I thought the animation in and acting in The Legend Reborn was so good, but the way they butchered Tuma, Metis, and Strakk, after their characters and personalities were already so firmly established in canon, just ruined the whole thing for me.
^ This. Tuma, the Skrall, and all the Bone Hunters were butchered, especially the Skrall which were treated as mindless non-speaking creatures. WTF? That script needed a few more passes before it should have even begun the first storyboard.
@@TheShadowedOne1 I always wondered how much involvement Greg Farshtey had in these movies, if any. He's credited on them, but they always seems to contradict what he already wrote in the books or comics.
hey man like what you like. I think, minus the teeth, that the quality of the animation models is really good, and the music was decent, and the ending definitely left me wanting more at the time.
I still think it holds up 10 years later yes we still needed the last 3 films to lead up to it but considering they painstakingly recreated each model to accurately be like the figures but they did still keep the Miramax mouth piece style for the Matoran could it have been better yes should we have had one last movie for the stars story line with Scott McNeil reprising his role as Tahu also yes
Owned the first 2 on VHS and DVD respectively and watched them both multiple times as a kid. 3rd one my dad rented for me once and I enjoyed it but never ended up owning it. 4th one I never watched - I was too old by that point and had lost interest and moved on.
I got a bionicle movie from a store I frequent a while ago, I never watched it and I checked which it was after this video and guess what, it was legend f*cking reborn
I'd lump web of shadows up with the legend reborn. Web is trying so hard to be edgy at times it hurts. The scene where the Hordika enter the colosseum and cock their weapons like a gun gets me everytime.
Always wanted a sequel to Legend Reborn, it bugged me so much as a kid that so much plot was never finished and ended on a cliffhanger. Now this reminded me of that so thanks💀
The Legend Reborn I think didn't do a great job of showing the world of Bara Magna. It had to compromise a lot to get the plot done. The Zesk, Tarduk, Gelu, Fero, Atakus, Malum, Crotesius, Kibraz, Scodonius, Sahmad, Telluris and Perditus were not even in the movie. Vastus and Tuma were not that well represented and the Core War and the Baterra that caused all this conflict were barely given attention. The Skrall as invincible and deadly force are reduced to blade swinging screamers. Compromises like these are the reason I think Ignition movies would have a negative impact on the degree of world-building and story-telling.
As a kid I remember being pissed about Gelu specifically, because he was my favorite out of the Glatorian sets Edit: also Malum was in the film technically, with the bugs from the film combining into a figure that looked like him
@@HordikaNate3821 Just a few months ago I stumbled over the information that Gelu actually participated in the final battle of the movie and chased Stronius back to the mountains from which the Skrall came to the Rock city they occupied in the movie in an effort to kill Tuma's right hand. He failed though. I think that is super fascinating, although it was only ever mentioned in a character guide.
TLR dvd is still my worst DVD purchase to this day. How boring and annoying that whole film is and it felt very cheap compared to the extras seen in Miramax Bionicle trilogy.
I love how much this dude has had a resurgence in meme presence with this format, I need to watch these films again, kid me's favorites were Web of Shadows and funnily enough Legend Reborn. WOS as a kid had a ton of moments where I was on the edge of my seat as a kid, the toa being mutated was a neat premise, and while I love the depiction of Metru Nui in the previous film seeing this run down dystopian version of the same place was super cool to me, TLR whilst a lot of people hate that movie, but the characters and the acting even back then carried the film for me, I think that the Glatorian story in general should have leaned more into the battle royal/gladiator thing, as well as just about how fucked up Bara Magna is. Mask of light and Legends of Metru Nui were cool two, Takanuva is my favorite Toa and Takua's ark in MOL is partly why, and I loved finding out about Metru Nui and how the Turaga from the first film were Toa, I remember the ending blew my mind as a kid So yee, I haven't seen them since Bionicle first ended but this is just some anecdotes on em
Never had a problem with Legend Reborn(Like a biblical Mad Max), though Web of Shadows could've been written better like Matau should've turn evil(a homage to Nhidiki), 05 was a bleak set year anyway just because they couldn't write the story better like them turning into rahi was kinda stupid Nhidiki it made sense cause his treacherous ways, but being werespiders?(from what I gather) was bad writing and should've just shelved or remodeled the story of 05. Cause Vakama loved his siblings and to keep Lhikans sacriface just for him to turn evil was a total 180. Keetongu, Sidorak, and Roodaka were great titan sets/characters of the lore just the Hordika were the worst. If the story revolved around Roodaka infecting them with Makuta's Virus the same one that put Mata Nui to sleep, or illusion that would be better like the Visorak will stay in the story but their venom spreads Makuta's virus, and slowly they turn into Shadow Toa bringing out the worst in each one of them(similar to Takanuva in Ignition 3) and in the end using the Avohkii that Keetongu was keeping(before hiding it on Mata Nui) to cure their shadow virus would be a better a plot than what occured in WoS.
Wait, legend reborn was that bad? I thought web of shadows was the worst because it was taking place right before the end of metru nui because every thing leads to that scene of the toa metru becoming turaga (I don’t think I spelled that right) and so you know nothing terrible happens but what ev
Personally, The Legend Reborn is the only one I actually like. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I found it much more entertaining than the soap opera that was Bionicle 3. Mask of Light is passable and Legends of Metru Nui is pretty meh (though the battle with Makuta was pretty good)
