Michaela's AVM began to bleed while she worked on a TicTok video at home. As a social media influencer, she spoke eloquently about her faith and used that foundation to inspire others. She suddenly had a severe headache and began stumbling. Realizing that something was very wrong, her parents call 911. Michaela was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and then airlifted to Hartford Hospital for surgery and intensive care. She came to Gaylord about six weeks later to begin her recovery and rehab. An AVM (arteriovenous malformation) can burst, causing extensive brain bleeding and neurological deficits requiring comprehensive rehabilitation to regain functioning. Michaela made incredible strides in her recovery and is now doing outpatient therapy at Gaylord. Throughout her recovery, she would tell anyone who interacted with her to have a "blessed day." Michaela's humor and bright spirit fueled her recovery as her mother, Teia, stayed by her side around the clock.
