I might be alone in this but I don't like what she said. What if he said he couldn't stand her for 10 years, no woman will want to hear her man say that about her. I think she could have said it was a difficult time for us when the children were very young.

If you read Becoming you can understand why she said she couldn’t stand him for 10 yrs. She was both the primary breadwinner and caretaker, had to give herself hormone injections for IVF, wolfing down Chipotle lunches in her car, while he was off building his political career. She was obviously drained! She loves and respects him but I empathize with her sacrifices and struggle. Doesn’t mean Barack is a bad person, just that her cup was running empty for 10 yrs. It’s realistic. I’ve been married 20 yrs, 2 kids, 2 careers, and I understand how she can love and resent at the same time. She has done the work to let it go and move on, which is remarkable. I appreciate her sharing this!

She's just letting people know that their marriage was not perfect. Hell I couldn't stand my husband I know for a good 8 year, that was when our 2nd son was born. I didn't even like him. By the grace of we made it. We are coming up on 35 years. And we both learned from those 8 years.

At one of our religious meetings, a visiting guest speaker's topic was on marriage. During his delivery you could not help but notice a bar bell weight set on the stage. On one barbell weight was the word "Love", on the other, "spirituality" and written on the bar in between was the word "commitment". The entire weight was about 45lbs. After explaining how crucial each of those words were to the success of the marriage, he then invited a volenteer from the audience, particularly a single young man, to come up to the stage for a demonstration. A young stocky, handsome young man in his late teens volenteered. The speaker asked him if he would like to be a husband one day, to which the young man answered "yes" enthusiastically. He then invited the participant to lift that weight up over his head. He did it with ease, and after lowering it, returned to his seat in the audience. Basking in the glow of all the famale admirers goggling at him. Although the speaker congratulated him on lofting the weight successfully, he told him he would not make an ideal husband for a successful marraige. Why not? As the speaker explained: "To be a successful husband, when you enter marriage, you pick up that weight, and carry it with you for the rest of your life."

Barack has never said anything negative about his wife in public. I guess she thinks it’s okay to bash him so that other women can find her relatable. Because in all honesty….she resented him for 10 years due to her immaturity. Of course, more falls on the mother during their child’s younger years. She had an ambitious husband who gave them covering. His ambition got him to the highest Office in the Land. Her career did not.

My spouse and I have been married for twenty-seven years, and we have witnessed the marriages and divorces of our friends and family. Marriage is a commitment, and we always remember that we are partners in life, no matter how we feel. Our children are beautiful and successful. One of them is a well-known actress in a Netflix series, and the others have thriving careers. Raising them has made it all worthwhile.

If I heard right, her resentment came at a time when she was called to be a mother and nurturer. But both had dreams, goals and aspirations. With all due respect his were bigger. But at the time she probably was on some competitive hype. Something like: I have to put mine on hold so you should too kind of vibe. Both of us should carry the parental load in this 50/50 equal partnership right? Several years later look how it turned out, by just playing the role God intended for you. While hubby gets the family Solidified in history because the sacrifices both had to make.. But im sure if it would have went the way she wanted initially, it would have turned out just as great.... Mrs. Obama conveys good advice, but saying "I couldn't stand my husband for 10 years" is bad optics. She simply could have explained how difficult it was as a married couple to maintain full-time careers with two young children, and how they both adjusted to work through that decade. That would have been more helpful and less offensive.

Her saying she hated her marriage for 10 years while he was president for 8 because their jobs were unfair. Is absolutely insane. He was the president, in charge of the people in America. Not only is the entire country watching him or waiting for a mistake but even OTHER Countries are also watching him. The jobs were most definitely fair, especially with all of the benefits being president has. Im extremely sure if their career roles were swapped their responsibilities would be swapped and barrack would have been doing more things w the kids etc.
