Back in 1953, the tunnel was still dirt (the players wore cleats, played on real grass) and we kicked up a dusty cloud before we hit the field. Of course, our spotless, white spats were a mess but the adreneline went off the charts as we came pouring out of the tunnel and FINALLY got on the field, assembled into the block M and played "Varsity" before going into parade formation and playing the into to the Victors while headed toward the student end, before doing a 180 and coming back up the field, high-stepping to Hail To The Victors as the crowd sang along. Love watching a band take the field. I bleed Maize and Blue, but man this group was off. Cover and align. Cover and align. I will say it one last time Cover and Align. Your music could be subpar, but if you covered and aligned, it would be so make such a difference.

This video also doesn't include "The parade route goes down Hoover Street, turning left onto Greene Street and then into the Michigan Stadium parking lot. The band then stops in the parking lot among tailgaters and performs a shortened version of "The Victors" the band commonly refers to as "Parking Lot Victors." Once finished, they progress to the mouth of the tunnel of Michigan Stadium where "Let's Go Blue" and the trio of "The Victors" is played in the direction of the tunnel."
JayJay Thanx for the info. I truley hope to see it some day. I love colege football traditions and going to a game in the big house is soemthing Ive always wanted to do. I really really wish UT and UM would do a home and home. Sad that those 2 have only played once and it happened to be a game neither fan base cared about because both teams gagged their way into that game.
So the band was relaxed and somewhat sloppy in its march down a street. You need to do some background research before commenting, and know how they perform when they're 'on' before critiquing this band. There's a reason they were the first recipient of the Sudler trophy from the John Philip Sousa foundation. I've been to many Michigan away games, seen many post-game band performances, and not once-"TBDBITL" claims notwithstanding-has the home team topped the Michigan Marching Band, especially when it came to drumline performance. Most times members of the home team crowd can be heard making remarks like, "WOW! This is a fµ¢king incredible band!"

I like how the fans say "show them (MSU's band) what a real band is" and all I can do is just laugh so hard at these remarks since the SMB is way more disciplined. Whoever is in charge of how this band marches to the stadium in a block...needs a little advice...First of all marching in block formation not only helps the members improve their step style and marching skills, it helps them focus on their upcoming halftime show. I saw members out of step..uneven lines and it looked like the band members were all over the place with their movements and singing. I am sure this college band is loved by many and they like what they see, However those of us who have been in successful marching /college bands and DCI pick up on these things . cut out the singing and all of the movements and let the drum line shine as they are intended to do....thanks for reading.

Ryan McConnell still laughing at the fact the fans say "oh yeah show em what a real band is" yet they look like high schoolers with capes and shakos. And clarinets.
My high school marching band stepped in parades WAY better than this. The lines are all aligned incorrectly. And it looks like at least half of the band members or more are either distracted or bored in their faces while they're marching in the parade. Plus, the way the stepoffs of each member look incorrect. They need to be stepping off heel-to-toe not toe-to-heel.
This isn't a "parade"...they are trying to wind their way between thousands of people lining Hoover and Green Streets while making their way up to the Big House. People are inches away from them, jostling and walking along beside them, and it would be impossible to "march" perfectly under these conditions. You have to see it to understand.
Big Ten marching bands (and really, most conferences outside the SEC) 'toe march'. You can see this in nearly every halftime performances and parade, as well as 'marches to the stadium', which are also performed using the high step. I was (very, very briefly) in the University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland Marching Band. Unlike UM, Ohio State and especially Wisconsin (whose high step looks like something a kangaroo might do if tied to a tree stump), we rolled our feet from heel to toe, which allowed for us to do some of more varieties of steps, one of which was the high step during 'The Power T' while performing Pregame. For more complex drills, I prefer 'heel-to-toe', but involving stuff like what UM is doing here, the high step is unique and indeed, a spectacle all its own, something that if you're from the Southeast as am I, is truly exciting to see given it is so different.
