Coming from an Oregon fan, you guys got a really good coach. In just two years, he turned a garbage program into one that was known to have a culture of grit and toughness. May not happen year one, but spartans will be a double-digit win team in no time for sure.
What Smith accomplished at Oregon State was remarkable. OSU was one of the worst programs of the last couple decades when he took over. 18-7 the last two years.
@@alexbriggs3456 Again he is a good coach and will succeed at Michigan State. Just saying it was 3 years of Gary Anderson completely destroying the program. Prior to that, Oregon State was a slightly above average Power 5 program in the BCS era. Not trying to take away what Smith accomplished, just sounds like saying it’s been a dumpster fire for 2 decades.
@@Bizzlekizzle245are you joking above average Oregon State has 3 10 win seasons in school history… one from smith as a player and one from him as a coach… they were Rutgers of the pac-12 before him
As an Oregon State fan I am not without some appreciation for what he did for the program there. The feeling is bittersweet though. He is a good coach. Cant deny it. His loyalty is to the greenest pasture though. He may make MSU stronger and may give Spartan fans lots of memories. Enjoy them while they last. You can expect him to bolt when a better opportunity opens up for him. The Pac 12 was imploding, to be fair, but he definitely did not leave his former team in a good way. He left a mess in Corvallis.
Can't help but like Johnathan Smith. A shame he left his alma mater, but regardless, MState got a good coach that knows how to do more with less, an XOs guy for sure. Give him a couple of years and I'll be worried about playing them.
Last reporter question needs to know how to say Oregon the state pronunciation right. I understand some people like to say the town Oregon in Ohio : Ory-gone.
Michigan fans can’t get mentally right at all. They feel the need to project their superiority instead of letting it speak for itself. Which is why they are one of the best programs with the worst fan base. Can’t get over themselves
UW Husky Fan and Alumni … I remember a classic game in Seattle when we beat him and they went on to play ND in the bcs. My dawgs beat Purdue in the Granddaddy! Most Husky fans like myself didn’t care for Smith as our OC under Coach Pete but it was never on Jon looking back. Coach Pete was great but his offensive creativity since his days at Boise State was going down hill. Most of us (Husky Fans) laughed when Oregon State hired him but boy were we wrong. I’m not sure I have been more wrong about a Head Coach hire ever. I’ve been very impressed with him and I’m pretty sure our great teams under Coach Pete would have been better offensively had Pete been more hands off. I love Coach Pete and honestly if I had a son playing college ball he would be my first choice (Pete). Mad respect to Coach Smith and I’ll eat my crow. He’s still got a steep climb because MSU isn’t exactly “a have” but not as bad as OSU in that department. I’ll be rooting for Coach Smith except vs my Huskies and Sparty will be my favorite team when the play Uncle Phil’s Whoregon Zeros! Bow Down to Washington!
