Curious question I've always wondered about: is the diesel locomotive on the end of the train providing motive power? I can hear the engine running as it passes, but is the engineer synchronizing the speed with the steamer up front (or equipped as some sort of distributed power)? Or is the locomotive just 'rolling free', being towed by the steamer as long as the steamer is leading? Or is it some variation of the above?

I believe it is isolated and not providing power when being pulled on the rear. I am not sure how they isolate the steam locomotive for its trailing run.

The 1225 is pretty captive to Michigan and the GLC tracks.

I wish they’d allow it to run faster but they have to abide by the host railroad’s limit.

Which is interesting. Rails dated 1959 in the first shots. 1928 further north. Still not as bad as the 1913 stuff at AnnPere but yeah, the ex AA tracks are only so courteous to allow medium speed use.
