Warren Consolidated Schools Superintendent Robert D. Livernois held a news conference Thursday a day after a quick-thinking seventh-grade student took control of a school bus when the driver lost consciousness. A bus driver "became lightheaded and lost consciousness" while the vehicle was transporting students home from Carter Middle School in Warren, Michigan, on Wednesday. Dillon Reeves "saw the driver in distress and stepped to the front of the bus and helped bring it to a stop without incident," Livernois said in an earlier statement.

I have been driving a school bus for 26 years and I cannot adequately express how extraordinary this young man's actions are. Most of the middle school students I transport are so wrapped up in playing on their phones or conversations to even keep track of their stop. I drive a bus that can transport up to 84 students and I worry about any incident that could put the students in jeopardy. I transport 4 schools morning and afternoon. A high school, middle school and 2 elementary schools, plus 2 noon time kindergarten schools for a total of around 300 students that I transport every day. Thank You Dillon for having the awareness to know something was wrong and the wisdom to know what to do and take action. Kudos to the parents for raising such an outstanding young man.

Greetings from Europe, Dillon! Great deeds travel fast. I’m so impressed by this little guy. How he, against his low-profile self, commands the children back in the bus to call 911. Not just stopping the bus, but taking care of the driver simultaneously too. Please allow me to be frank. We have witnessed the powers of the introvert here. It’s a gross misunderstanding that silent people is less alert or how to put it. In a crisis, the talkative ones usually continue to just talk. This may be a very useful lesson to the American culture. Introverts are the pillars of most workplaces, you just don’t know about it. Or failed to hire them.

What a wonderful story! Kudos to these parents for raising their child to understand the basics of how to drive (age appropriately). Kudos to them for raising a child without succumbing to the pressures of buying him a phone. They deserve a lot of credit themselves. I think the fact both work in the medical field plays a role too. He looks up to them and emulated perfectly what his parents would do. It was natural You can tell he’s overwhelmed but I think his parents will help guide him through this. Wouldn’t be surprised if this doesn’t help guide him into a path of helping people for a career. I’m sure the parents of the other children on the bus are very grateful as is the bus driver. I can’t imagine how scary this was for her knowing she was having a medical crisis with all these kiddos on her bus. I hope she makes a full recovery Also kudos to the two adults who stopped to help! That’s part of this amazing story as well! The whole community came together to help
