Thanks Texas Fan. The Texas Program looks poised to go all of the way this year. I’m afraid most pundits were right about UM this year. OL and QB just not ready for prime time. It appears USC may need to recruit better in the trenches because that was the difference. UM D still legit.

@@cory2023 no? All of the missed calls, that resulted in TDs for michigan and points missed for SC. You were short on 4th down, no review and you score the next play. Your next long run had players tackling SC players in the back. You face masked moss twice, most notably to end the first half, that would’ve put is in FG range. Your Dline destroyed our oline, but the refs won you this game. I get it, you’ll say “cry”, but the facts are on tape, its best to take the W, but don’t lie to yourself as if you ran the ball 40 times (0 holding calls) and the refs didn’t have the greatest impact on your victory.

@@blud7065 sorry which ones? The calls i mentioned resulted in points for Michigan and a lack there of for SC. A potential 17 point swing on the plays mentioned. 1st Michigan TD came after the runner was short on 4th down, ruled a first and not reviewed. TD next play. Next Michigan TD run our defender was tackled in the back in plain sight, no call. Face mask to end the half, that would’ve put us in field goal range. There were other face masks, horse collars, play clock being at 0 multiple times, but i am talking about the 3 calls that resulted in POINTS. You ran 40 times and didn’t have any holding penalties. Sorry man, the film is there, who cares, game over. Just don’t lie to yourself about what actually transpired on the field

Absolutely. It just so happened that USC "got hot" right at the same time when Michigan got conservative in its play calling while allowing some backups on defense - Amir Hall, Wesley Walker, T.J. Guy, Jimmy Rolder and Cam Brandt to name a few - to get some PT while resting starters for the last push to seal the win later in the game.

No one plays like Michigan and they have to stay with their philosophy. It has worked the past three years. It may not always look pretty, but when you run the ball teams break in the 4th qtr and limits the negative plays for sacks and interceptions. Unorthodox, but works for Michigan. Passing yards don’t win games.

@@brentj.peterson6070 Im good with Orji. I wish he had started game one so he would have more game experience already. The defense won every game last year - offense never was high scoring. As long as Orji doesn’t make mistakes the defense will give M the chance to win. Loveland returning will give Orji an easier/safer target. Too, I think the threat of Orji running opens up the run game just like it did with JJ last year. I like our chances. But we won’t blow out anyone, that’s for sure.

QB situation is a huge problem. On a positive note, Michigan finally found their identity. O Line is improving each week (still a ways to go), and the defense is starting to find their stride. I don't expect much this year, but if they keep improving, they could be in the conversation for a playoff spot. Got to put in the work every week and see what happens.

Mullings is everything we thought he was, and then some. Some people didn't know it before yesterday but he's a dynamic beast. Edwards is a good complimentary back but the coaches need to do some work on play designs so that Edwards can utilize his receiving skills. Orji was a great game manager. No turnovers. few, if any, false starts or delay of games...0 INTs. Excellent. He made some good choices on his incomplete passes and got a little lucky once or twice. But he puts enough heat on the ball so that when he does throw it into traffic, it's not an automatic pickoff. I love the direction they're heading but they have to be better all around. Mullings should get no fewer than 25 carries a game and should also be used once in a while in the passing game so as not to be too predictable. They have to get Orji rolling out more. Where are the play action fakes that get the QB rolling out into space looking for receivers or taking off running? Griese did that 3 dozen times in '97.

I'm okay with the concept that the better team doesn't always win. Sometimes you get a weird bounce or a bad call and the game flips. I didn't see that yesterday. I don't think you can make a clear case that USC is the better team but Michigan got lucky. Those few big plays don't happen in a vacuum. You grind and you pound and then something big opens up. That's how it works. That's the plan. I'll wait for Steve to put Mark in his place. 😊

This game is an example of why the game is 60 minutes long. Michigan, Michigan never stops fighting. To me, the only reason the game was close is because Michigan has to improve their defensive pass coverage. Their backs are fast enough to cover, but they got mixed up on, all of those touchdown passes by SC and made mistakes. That’s something they’ll work on, I’m sure and when they get that corrected the same type of game should have been two less scores by SC . Fix that one thing and this game is Michigan winning 21 to 10. Get Colson Loveland back in the lineup and Michigan can throw it more and probably get 100 to 125 yards per game in passing and as the offensive line gets better each week then they will be much tougher to stop from scoring even more.I believe when they get to the Oregon game, they will be a much better team than they are right now as this one week improvement was significant and they will probably continue to get better

Michigan doesn't need a great quarterback to win, just a decent one. Keep Orji in and I'm sure that with real game experience, he will pass better. You can't reproduce real game experience in practice.

Don't be too sure UM or SC won't be in the playoffs this year. Texas is good, but they're beating up on mid-level schools right now. Wait 'til they taste full-on SEC competition. Look what happened to Oklahoma hosting The Vols evening last. Georgia escapes Kentucky by a single point. The Buckeyes are winning, but sluggishly. It could be that more than a few play-off bound schools will get blown out at least once this year. Michigan's already had its' McGuffin - the Texas game - and it is still, along with Alabama and Georgia, the most experienced conference championship game winner AND playoff game winner, around. That counts for something, in that, they know how to win games that matter. We'll see ...🤔 🏉

@@brettk9316 Texas is a much more experienced team as of current and atleast with michigans case, coaching staff. Michigan is replacing damn near an entire coaching staff. It's gonna take some time to figure it out. Now if Michigan can add wrinkles to the schemes and playbook then Michigan actually will turn into a playoff contender team. Just as of current they are sitting just barely on the outside of the top 12 I'd say.

What was that about? The clock hit zero 2-3 times against Michigan an no penalty called. The refs didn't call the horse collar, an gave Michigan a 1st down when they were stopped.

Michigan is gonna have to get Warren in the game. He is a good paseer when he doesn't turn it over. Gary Danielson was incorrect on that 3rd down in 4th quarter when he said no one was open. Right inside reciever was WIDE open. No one was within 20 yards from him. Hopefully Michigan makes adjustments and has a passing game. If Michigan can padd the ball, they can play with anyone

What’s not helping the QB situation for Michigan is the receivers are getting 0 separation. It’s already hard enough when you don’t have a QB you fully trust to throw the ball, but to also have receivers that can’t get open is hurting as well. I do think it’ll get better in the weeks ahead, but the start has not been ideal. Also praying Will Johnson’s injury isn’t too serious. He is the DB room at Michigan. Losing Johnson with Rod Moore already out for the year would be a massive massive blow.

Wrong Semaj Morgan had a play in this game where he was open by 10 yards. Ball was not thrown to him. Issue is calling a pop Warner level passing scheme. Two man routes don’t work when you can double cover both guys

I agree, and I've been saying this all along. It definitely showed tonight. USC had some fast cornerbacks that were glued to Michigan's wideouts the entire time. Loveland wasn't playing tonight, which opens up more of the passing game. Michigan needs their WR's to run shorter routes, and get some separation through quick slance, Alex, maybe some digs. TE's need to run some digs as well, along with some stick plays. Just quick passing is key.

Riley tried to get a cheap penalty by mass-substituting an entire defense after Michigan broke the huddle. The refs probably recognized this and basically told Riley that they're not going to call penalties on bullshit like that. Saban said Michigan's huddle was one of the hardest things to deal with because nobody huddles anymore. You can't match up if everyone is huddled up.

Forget the penalties, turnovers, ref calls, etc…..USC did adjust. And the D gave up 20 pts just as they did with LSU. They just could not make the last stop. Michigan has bigger problems coming out of the game than USC…USC has one glaring problem in O-Line coaching either fix it or fire the Offensive staff….

80% of the plays Mark? Did you even see USCs first 4 punts and 1st 3 and outs? Michigan destroyed them in the 1st half. And defensively Michigan held them to several 3rd downs in the 2nd half. Then the 2nd part of the 4th quarter, Michigan definitely dominated. 50/50 at best for USC.

Michigan had three big run plays, not two. Michigan won the way they did all last year, defense and running the ball on offense. If you can run the ball down your opponents throat, you don't have to throw the ball much at all. USC's quarterback was beat up almost as bad as Penix was last year, the guy was running for his life or flat on his back for a lot of the game. Michigan actually dominated most of the game with far more time with the ball and trailing only once.

So I will say it as a SC fan! Lincoln Riley was out coached again! Let’s stop crying about the officials because it was the same way in the PAC12 even at home! The “best play caller” has a basic offensive scheme blocking wise and as far as play design. Keep it 💯!

If you lose at the line of scrimmage Mark, you're not the better team. USC was going to get their plays, but if you can't run the ball and get run on for over 300yrds, you're likely not going to win, nor are the better team.

As a Michigan fan this was painful to watch. Almost manic in a way, there was some great team and individual efforts countered with penalties, missed blocking assignments and missed coverages. Not to mention the turnovers. Michigan fans are happy with the win of course and some credit has to be given for their fight and not giving up, but, too many mistakes. I don't see a lot to be happy about when you have that many poor plays on your part. As far as Orji goes, they do have a plan for him. I think you will see him pass more against Minnesota and they will continue to put more on his plate passing wise as the season progresses. This is a really good team with some huge problems. But they are learning how to win and that is something that even good teams don't always get.

Mark....you can talk about the Buckeyes defense all you want. Marshall had their way with OSU offensively. Couldn't do anything to keep them in the game defensively. Got out of control and Marshall couldn't do what they were doing in the first half offensively. Not overly impressed with OSU defense.

Your pass rush was great tho, you did a great job defensively for the most part. Offensively, you were allowed to hold on your long runs (blatantly, except your last run), your first TD should never have happened as your rb was short by half a yard, you were allowed to snap beyond 0 seconds on the play clock multiple times. Again, your D line did its thing, but we would all be lying if we said the refs didn’t aid your victory.

Michigans defense was able to man handle USC until they went to that soft zone, when they switched to soft zone USC torched us. wink needs to stop fricken using that soft zone. And I dont understand why our third defense is so fricken bad. And we really need tuttle to not be injured.

Kind of a ridiculous take overall. Michigan dominated in the first half and then USC was the better team most of the 2nd half until the end. Not sure where you are getting 80% of the plays watching the game. Miller Moss was on his back and getting pressured all game. Was relentless.

We are a running team now and great . Dictate the pace of the game be violent! Our line needs to improve but for those who think we won’t get better oh well . If we do I’ll take Mullings down osu throat for an ugly win. Take away missed assignments that lead to two USC touchdowns this game is different. Style points are 💩

SMASH. OSU will break against Michigan just like the past years. Howard will throw picks and Michigan will SMASH OSU again. This offense online is just staring to gel and offense will continue to get better. Rod Moore an OSU killer will seal the deal when he come back from his injury.

Your analysis is terrible. USC did not win 80% of the plays nor were their the better team. Yes the game was a tale of two halves. Michigan dominated the first more so than USC dominated the second. USC needed two high effort plays to get the ball back and a blown coverage just to keep it close. Michigan should’ve won this game by two scores but, still the better team won today. Period

This has been the most complete & correct analysis of this game. USC is the way better team. It’s not even a question. They did everything they could to lose this game. Michigan has a lot of talent, but this style needs a lot of things to go right and nothing can go wrong.they’re gonna win probably eight games total just because they’re better than everyone else they’re playing. Ohio State is a definite loss. Then someone else will jump out in front of them and make it impossible for them to win. Good game. Fight on

Humphrey Sucks needs 2 learn how 2 wrapped a player; michigan wouldnt have had that 60 yrd run setting up the winning drive. Riley needs to learn draw plays whe Dfenses are blitzing with a 4 pts lead late in the game. Which runs out tge clock Calling slants at that time in the game doesnt make sence. Esp when USC running back Marks was torching the Mich Defense

A bad OL can make a QB look worse. Talented QBs can get rattled and make big mistakes if they keep getting hit. Penix looked great last year until he met M's D. When your OL can't pass pro, things aren't likely to turn out very good for the QB behind them.

@@aronapple7760 How many teams will M play afterward that have the talent level Texas has? One for sure, the rest... remains to be seen. For me it's more a question of creativity. M's OL will improve, but not enough, so the coaches will have to be creative. M's season hinges on that creativity, and so far it seems a bit lacking.
