Dr. Michio Kaku (b. January 24, 1947) is an American theoretical physicist specializing in string field theory, and a futurist. He is a popularizer of science, host of two radio programs, and a best-selling author.....Kaku was born in San Jose, California to Japanese immigrant parents, and attended and played first board on the chess team of Cubberly High School in Palo Alto in the early 1960s. At the National Science Fair in Albuquerque, N.M., he attracted the attention of physicist Edward Teller, who took Kaku as a protégé, awarding him the Hertz Engineering Scholarship. Kaku received a B.S. degree summa cum laude from Harvard University in 1968 where he placed first in his physics class. He went on to attend the Berkeley Radiation Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley and received a Ph.D. degree in 1972, and held a lectureship at Princeton University in 1973. During the Vietnam War, Kaku completed his US Army basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia and his advanced infantry training at Fort Lewis, Washington. However, the Vietnam War ended before he could be deployed as an infantryman....Kaku currently holds the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship in theoretical physics and holds a joint appointment at City College of New York, and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where he has taught for more than 25 years. Presently, he is engaged defining the "Theory of Everything", which seeks to unify the four fundamental forces of the universe: the strong force, the weak force, gravity and electromagnetism. He has also been a visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and New York University. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and American Men and Women of Science......Kaku has publicly stated his concerns over issues including the human cause of global warming, nuclear armament, nuclear power, and the general misuse of science.[2] He was critical of the Cassini-Huygens space probe because of the 72 pounds of plutonium contained in the craft for use by its radioisotope thermoelectric generator. Alerting the public to the possibility of casualties if its fuel were dispersed into the environment during a malfunction and crash as the probe was making a 'sling-shot' maneuver around earth; he was critical of NASA's risk assessment. [3] (Ultimately, the probe was launched and successfully completed its mission. Kaku is generally a vigorous supporter of the exploration of outer space, believing that the ultimate destiny of the human race may lie in the stars, but is critical of some of the cost-ineffective missions and methods of NASA.),,,,Dr. Kaku credits his anti-nuclear war position to programs he heard on the Pacifica radio network, during his student years in California. It was during this period that he made the decision to turn away from a career developing the next generation of nuclear weapons in association with Dr. Teller and focused on research, teaching, writing and media. Dr. Kaku joined with others such as Dr. Helen Caldicott, Jonathan Schell, Peace Action and was instrumental in building a global anti-nuclear weapons movement that arose in the 1980s, during the administration of US President Ronald Reagan....Dr. Kaku was a board member of Peace Action and on the board of radio station WBAI-FM in New York City where he originated his long running program, Explorations, that focused on the issues of science, war, peace and the environment.

This is a perfect video to show to anyone who is thinking of a career in interviewing people. Even the most egotistical interviewer candidates would learn from this the importance of keeping their trap shut after asking a question.

I like Michio Kaku. He's a very interesting guy and has very interesting ideas. I'm no science major or nothing like that, but I stumbled across this guy simply through intellectual curiosity about science, the atom and the universe and all that. When I stumbled across this video I thought, "This is something I can enjoy watching." But I couldn't get past 20 minutes of the video because Channer just would not shut the fuck up and let Dr. Kaku explain things. Dude! Shut the fuck up and let the smart people talk! Jeez Louise man!!

Interviewers, even when they agree with the interviewee, so often argue with them, interrupt them, and generally, as you said, just won't shut up. Interviewers must love to hear themselves talk. Case in point: Bill O'Reilly. He hits the nail on the head but even when he agrees with his guest, ends up arguing with them. It's why I don't watch Bill O'Reilly ... I just turn the channel.

David R in terms of the interviewer interjecting with "ums" and "yeahs" and "uhhuhs" while Kaku is trying to speak. Adds nothing to the interview and is also distracting. Interviewer is a cocky jackass, a tool, and also probably cups his hand when he farts and smells it.

I am a great fan of Michio Kaku, yet I found this interview to be not very much of how I see him today. Harold Channer tried in this interview to draw . Kaku out to speak in a more positive manner while at the same time speaking of the harm that has already been done . I believe Mr. Channer was perhaps ahead of the interview thinking of movements that we see today that he may have been aware of or may not have been such as the Venus Project or Abundance movements. Prof. Kaku did not in this interview allow the conversation to go that way. I do believe today he would!

Michio is a smart dude but he repeats the CO2 and temperature myth. The CO2 typically followed the temperature rise by hundreds of years, not before or during.

bronson Nope. I only tell facts. CO2 has preceded temperature rises very very rarely. CO2 almost always follows temperature rises. Are you just an idiot? If you're an idiot, I really don't want to waste my time with you.

repeats? he was speaking about it 10 years before the US president (Bush) had not even heard of such phenomenon. we in Europe were rolling our eyes.

This clueless, ill-mannered interviewer is unbelievably irritating and should have been shot. Kaku could have then cooly and nonchalantly turned toward the camera and continued on uninterupted with his interesting and brilliant discourse.

i so agree with you. the interviewer interrupts too much so to say he knows something too! Awkward.

From the moment I see his head (before the title appears), I knew he is some kind of reptilian-humanoid (the interviewer) take a look at the length of his forehead, it's so unnatural and his mouth is creepy,

The Interviewer had a different audience in 1991, people like my grandparents who questioned & argued what's being said to get to a higher understanding. The interviewer was excellent. Now days, it seems everyone wants immediate answers without questioning and processing thought. ?

Probably. He does spend a lot of time popularizing science to encourage my generation to study science. Mission accomplished.

Imagine how patient Kaku was conversing with Channer's idiosyncratic conversation style. Remember, this was an interview program. This is Channer's way of interacting with his guest, giving listening feedback, letting his guest know he is following the information, and directing the interview by questioning. Hey, be as patient as the interviewee.....
