I could listen to Brian Greene for hours! He is articulate, knowledgeable, entertaining, and informative. That's a pretty good skill set.

What I love about Greene is his grasp and categorisation of laws, followed by an account of why and how he arrived at that point. His articulation of things that govern and shape our thoughts are clear and precise. Hope he is around for a long time.

For some reason I always feel so relaxed after listening to him

His clarity of expression is infectious and is easily carried in the books that he writes for this world . Feynman-like . Minus the humour.

I really just hang onto Brian's every word when he's talking about his theories and philosophies. He's one of the few people who's thoughts and ideas truly resonate with my own. I feel that way about a lot of physicists. Can't get enough of this kind of talk. I love physics, and I love learning about and trying to understand our universe on all of it's scales. The thing that struck me the most in this session was the nature of questions from the audience was different, as well as the age group, which is much younger. I was 11 when I first came to know about STRING THEORY and Brian was the show's host. And it changed my life

I like the way prof. Greene communicates, although I'm not a numbers person and I don't really understand the formulas that he's proposing (protons, neurons, quantum mechanics etc) it's mesmerizing to listen to.

Prof Greene is defo well down the physics rabbit hole and I love him for it. He’s handling the mindfuck quite well, all considered!

I love the way Greene just completely takes over, no need for the nerd except to hold the book.

The concept that electrons are imbibed with an iota of consciousness is for me reminiscent of two things: 1) Native American ideas that ascribe spirit to everything in nature including rocks, 2) Midi chlorians. Wait, what's that sound? Aaahhhhhh! A lio (growl, crunch, gurgle briefly reverberates on the savannah)

Feynman talks about path integrals and particles trying out all possible paths but finally choosing the easiest one with the least action. It could be that in the brain we go into superposition too when having to make choices but there is no clear path of least action available for us as conglomerates of particles because we are so complex and living in a complex world with other just as complex beings. There is no other way to avoid getting stuck than making a choice. The choice feels not "random" but perhaps it is.

It seems free will is the ability to exercise will freely across the spectrum of possibilities in each instant, knowing the real potential of change that will take effect as a result, and that the feedback will also be free as the nature of chaos and order to establish a forward moving psuedo constant type of stasis allows for it

The man just proved mathematically that we’re brains floating in a void imagining the present.

Consciousness is a result of evolution, the instinct to survive . . . making tools to extend life. Particles on their own are not able to generate awareness by themselves without evolution.

I deeply love Brian Greene

Brian Greene is a referential being for many, besides his students. I read his books with double pleasure, one for the knowledge and second for the questions it triggers. As a mathematician he should consider the universe from the perspective of Brian Greene and one independent of Brian Greene. The universe as Brian Greene has known it and one in which Brian was never born. Whatever differentiates these two universes, is at the root of consciousness.

I always wanted to build an impossible machine. But when I tried impossible always beats it. Should I have to try or just give up.

what is lost or misunderstood here is the fact that evolution of life is a directional process, which is tied with evolution of the observable universe, which goes in the opposite direction from the point of entropy or information processing. we can say that it's just one single process going into two different directions from two different points of views, but both of them are deeply bonded together.

I however still don't understand what you're doing here, and when I say that I include myself in trying to understand where this is all going. I don't see how the "law of physics" has led to bunch of beings trying to understand the "law of physics". The more I'm convinced that God doesn't exist, the more I wish he existed.

The problems with Prof. Greene's analogy of everything being composed of particles, is that the definition of "particle" will change based on the reference point you are using. Are we talking about atoms? quarks? strings? In either case, the material properties are so different between these different forms that the analogies break down.

This would be so much better if only the Google host would say "like" or "you know" more.

He's happy that his particles did something is somewhat of a tautology because his emotions and feelings are an emergent property of his particles. So in essence, his particles are "happy" if you will by its mere existence.

Pr Greene deserves a Nobel Prize … in litterature at least, like G. Gamow did deserve.

I’m currently reading his new book, Until the end of time, and it is a total mindfuck in a positive way. I feel like I’m becoming more robotic by just realizing I’m a bag of particles controlled by the laws of physics.

I have been studying How the Mind Works and as a result I have come to believe the following statement is true: Analogy-Reasoning ≈ Same-Difference ≈ Quantum-Classical ≈ Wave-Particle ≈ Mind-Body ≈ Gene-Protein ≈ Unconscious-Conscious ≈ Freedom-Determinism ≈ Variation-Selection … and so on. In other words: ad infinitum of duals that are similar or analogical to each other. Propositionally, you can read what Quantum is to Classical is similar to what Analogy is to Reasoning. Or what Quantum is to Classical is similar to what Freedom is to Determinism. In quantum theory, you are free to say that a particle is here and there at the same time. In classical theory, determinism of the Laplacian kind is king!

As much as I enjoyed Dr Green's talking, the host was irritating. The job of a journalist or an interviewer must be done by a professional who can engage at the right time. Not just throwing a question and looking away until next question. Google, please make Talk at Google more professional!

Better yet… What makes you a better conductor than let’s say myself of the particles to express themselves in this kind of thought in consciousness? More importantly do we create new thought and what makes new thought? I find frequently is recycled.

A framework for elementary particles being proto-conscious is laid out in the Cognitive Theoretical Model of the Universe (CTMU) by world record IQ holder Christopher Langan. He believes the universe is self creating, self interacting, and the intelligence built into everything effectively negotiates the laws of physics. He also believes this basic intelligence inherent in elementary particles eligible to be considered God. There are many studies that prove quantum events are affected by human consciousness. The Princeton university global consciousness project is an example.

i do wonder how he's sure that evolutionary conscious building necessarily means that consciousness helps survival. doesn't evolution allow for mutations and traits to be adapted and passed on that may actually have a negative function in relation to survival but that they could be emergent properties that arose out of survival adaptations that have a greater net benefit than the negatives provided by the emergent property? i've heard him say that indeed we may end up destroying ourselves.

Which as I'm typing this, I realize language was created by humans for that exact purpose- to describe our environment, which is still the universe. Mathematics is the ultimate language of describing our environment. If we can expand upon our language we call mathematics, we can uncover the universe. Love is the answer- not because it has some mystical property, but because it allows us to work together and further our understanding of our world. We need to stop war. I think Brian Greene knows an astonishing amount concerning scientific matters. He seems to know not much, though, about the human heart. And since it might might not be instantly apparent to scientists who are determined to think in in only detached, concrete terms, what I meant by "heart" does not refer to that organ which is beating in our chests and will someday stop doing so; I mean the emotional part of ourselves, which in my view matters just as much. Maybe I see it that way because I am a poet, not a scientist. I just wrote a poem, a haiku, which I will post here. Is there some good reason why creating poetry or other types of art must be boiled down to nothing more significant than possibly representing a means for our long-ago ancestors to better survive on the African savannah? I weave a dream, a cocoon for myself, made of winter and of Yule.
