I stopped watching and reading and listening to corporate media many decades ago. Yes, I'll laugh at a tabloid headline and the yellow journalism of the Telegraph, Times, etc. I save my biggest laffs and schadenfreude for the Brittunculi sheeple who fall into line and cow tow to Fárage and Johnson, Raaaaaaab and Tryss, Sunak and Kwarteng and François and Hannon etc. as Brexiteers which 70 million Brittunculi idiots swallow. Only an idiot would pay the TV licence! Cheers and trebles all around for 1776!
Making claims to bring about shame. Treason should apply to these lot peddling the corporate agenda. 30 odd billion on the test and trace app bill in the uk and you've got these puppets fighting to maintain image. Up the workers.
Treason should also apply to the workers walking out at vital times and purposely causing disruption to the tax paying public. The unions are full of greed, what is Micks annual salary?? 😂
No, you’re tired of people challenging someone that you like, someone who says things that you like hearing. He lies, he makes things up, he avoids answering questions - he’s no better than an average politician.
How wonderful it is to listen to an adult. The two ill informed numpties on either side of him could learn a great deal from Mick's integrity, passion, intelligence and knowledge.
He is 100% GAS LIGHT RESISTANT… I call him Teflon Mick… because the corrupt, criminal Tory crooks can’t handle his straight talking, no bull shit, eloquent and intellectual answers… all their lies just slide off him like he’s a non stick frying pan… a national treasure… he’s what I call a Jeremy Corbyn with much bigger bollocks who will not get bullied, gas lighted and lied to by these gangsters in power. He is a breath of fresh air.
The NHS is now a woke, leftist, politically run, snowflake place to work. I'm so glad I retire in a few months. And I guess when liebour was in power it ran beautifully? 😂 The liebour run council are destroying where I live (oxfordshire) potholes so big you could easily end up with accidents everywhere, so called 15 minute cities(ha ha ), banning cars, permits to drive on certain roads coming in this summer, businesses closing down, people sleeping in shop doorways in the centre, no repairs being done to housing stock,my friend is now homeless with 2 kids and can't get a house, migrants getting housed first, universities all gone woke. Phew.. can't wait to move. P.S.....I guess liebour politicians don't live in big expensive houses, don't have their grubby little hands in multiple business, not ripping off the public claiming for speeding fines to be paid by the taxpayer, hypocrites? ...not much between liebour and tories imo😂...at least tories know what constitutes a woman😂
That's exactly what they are doing, exactly what they did to British Rail also. It's been so blatantly obvious you have to wonder how the Tory voter mind works, probably because it doesn't work
hate to give you some truth here but privatisation started under labour . and the largest parts that have been privatised are owned and run by Virgin health care owned by Branson a huge labour supporter and donator. so I would suggest educating yourself before spouting crap 👍
Having worked on the railway for 41 years and starting with British Railways through the privatisation years, I can say with confidence that the privatisation of the railways was an unmitigated disaster from day one. Shortly after the railways were privatised we were given what amounted to an ultimatum of accepting new conditions or bugger off. The last fifteen years I’ve been a senior signalling engineer working on major projects (£250 million plus) and the private companies were an absolute nightmare to get on with. Obstructive, rude, aggressive and totally unprofessional in their dealings with projects. A renationalisation of the system is needed. One central area of responsibility, not multiple entities blaming one another when something goes badly wrong.
I agree with you 100%. You have to be mad in the head to think that if the government can't run a railway well enough, profiteering businessmen will do it better for less! The only thing that keeps a private company honest is its competitors. I'm all for the private sector but you simply can't have true free competition with trains! Are you insane! At the bloody least refuse to subsidise them!!! That's just daylight robbery. Let them go bankrupt and send them to prison if they can;t pay for the damage to public property. Yes the trains weren't great before but the money being put in was worse. As Mick says the solution was simply more money in. NOT more money in and more money out!!! Our governments are the enemy of the people.
Their facial expressions from about 2 minutes on is priceless... they so desperately want to be anywhere else and are so uncomfortable. I'm sure a still of one of them could make a good meme template.
The Ken doll on the left saying “British Rail was appalling, yes it was, yes it was!!!” How would he know? He wouldn’t have been born when British Rail existed - or if he was, he would have been a toddler. All he could do in response to Mick was throw his glasses down and give a Pi$$ed Off look through his fake tan. Brilliant, Mick.
Thats an easy question to answer. The English electorate are thick as fuck and completely politically ignorant and instead of looking at voting records and policies to decide who to vote for. Vote for who the telly and paper tell them to. There is at least 40yrs of evidence of this. The UK is fucked because of the electorate in England not knowing their political arse from their elbow.
It's a Brexit benefit for the people that wanted Brexit. What did people like Mick think would happen when they voted for Johnson? Brexit is a Tory project and will never show any benefit for workers and ordinary folk - only Tory donors and associated spivs.
The system is corrupt. So we privatise our services on the cheap, so the people in the know made vast sums of money. We then use public money to subsidise them, so these people can extract even more wealth for themselves and then charge us insane prices to use the services we are susbsidising and should own.
Genius from Mick once again! He highlights the Tory text book approach to privatisation. Deliberately underfund a service (in this case the railways but its happening now to the NHS and other public services) then stand back and watch it crumble and fail, then offer the solution as being privatisation, which was the intended plan all along.
may I point you to the health and social care act 2012, part 3, chapter 2, section 75, sub-scetion 1(c). It quite clearly states "do not engage in anti-competitive behaviour which is against the interests of people who use such services" in other words means EVERYTHING is up for tender ie it has already been privatised and is enshined in law. We have lost the NHS already 😞
@@bobmalooga7249 may I point out to you 1997 Tony Blair opted to use PFIs (set up by Tories 1992) to build 100 new hospitals which meant all new hospitals built under the scheme are all privately owned at a cost of 12.7 billion to the public. 2000 Labour introduced the privatisation of medical services leading to NHS paying over the odds to private companies for certain medical procedures. 2003 Labour allowed NHS trusts to become Foundation Trusts independant businesses away from government control. 2004 Labour introduced payment by results which meant providers were paid a set amount for medical care completion allowing private trusts (as mentioned above) to cherry pick the easiest procedures to boost funding. 2009 Gordon Brown brought in the unsustainable payment regime after realising how bad the 1997 choice was for public funds which meant hospitals not purchased via PFIs can now be closed and sold off to private companies. My point is privatisation of the NHS has been happening for years so lets not hand pick what information we want to believe and actually look at the complete history. If we stop our blind faith or hatred for certain political parties we might wake up and opt for something that will actually help 👍
I have to agree with Mick as always. I used British Rail continually during the 80s and I rarely had any problems and the cost was sensible based on the long distances I travelled.
He put no one in their place. He simply makes things up to make a point - often not answering the question. He’ll hold the country to ransom, just to keep as many of his members in jobs - many of those jobs simply should not exist, if they weren’t blocking reform
@@MKRM27 if you had driverless trains and something like ohio derailment happened, what would you do ??? Also when Rapes and robberies happen on Trains, what would you do ??? You need people in Train so that such things do not happen.
I used to travel by British rail to football matches almost every weekend during the season and I can only recall a couple of times they were really late.
That is such a great way to look at it: the man is sooo good at this and he does it without wasting a word. Kids should study this as the best example of how to organise your thinking and speak clearly.
This is why they try to demonise him, as he actually knows his job, and he wants to protect his members and staff from the corrupt bureaucratic system, that the past governments and civil service push, to which 99% of them have no clue to what they are doing.
He beats them because he retains facts and when confronted is able to remain calm and recall the relevant points needed. The hacks try to throw lines in like 'british rail was awful' which left unchecked would then be picked up and used by other hacks. Mick however is able to nip these things in the bud and cut off avenues of attack. Hats off.
Every now and then we get a person who rises from making sense. Mick Lynch - I salute you. I have yet to see a media rep succeed in a gotcha with him. The man is a walking example of the combination of preparation, knowledge and accumin. He walks rings around media hacks and politicians who stylise as experts. He is everything they are not. Mick is the real deal. I stand with all who currently fight the fat cat oppressors. I remember British Rail. The way NHS is currently being prepared for sacrifice may be a decent comparison. Those in the know - know exactly why things are the way they are and have already done their hedging. Stop the dividends and start investing. Stop the subsidies for investors and make an effort to preside over a viable business. Stop rewarding the execs, chancers and overseas owners. Pay people in a fair way. Don't demonise those who stand up for what is right. Protesting is our right! Remember- rail employees don't see a penny from the never-ending rises in train fares. Everyone knows where the money goes and it's not coming back our way as it stands.....ever!
I met a travel agent in the sauna. Apparently there was good business during the pandemic. I asked who was flying around during the pandemic. The reply shocked me. The owners of transport companies!
@@nilsalmquist802Reform UK isn't extreme enough. We should actually privatise everything (including military and courts) and abolish the UK Government.
All I can say is that Mick is absolutely spot on here. Challenging corrupt privatisation of public money. Yet the corporate elite think they are right. Mick needs to be high up in politics for the UK on the front benches, at least. Thank you for standing up for the majority and not the elite
The public paid for the creation of said entity, then lose out with no benefit at all when it's sold. The rich take their inside knowledge and buy shares before anyone else gets in. Rinse repeat. Handing tax payers money to the rich legally.
I remember British Rail as pretty cheap and certainly not any less reliable than what we have today. Now trains are just ridiculously expensive. Bring back BR!
I remember them being pretty bad if I'm honest but at least they were relatively cheap. Trains are much better today, they just cost too much, so why use them if you can avoid? Motorway jams included
@@KG-lr2qw I'm not so sure it's that simple mate. Would these advances in passenger safety and comfort exist? Or would we have to just settle for "it'll do"? I don't know
@@user-John666 we'll never know, but judging on how govts have hated spending on public goods, maybe it would have got worse. Whereas if theres the oppotunity to shovel vast sums to their cronies... But imagine the same level of investment, it could have been great
@@KG-lr2qw Yeah I agree it would have been nice to have decent, affordable reliable trains but sadly it's all hypothetical now. But let's not get too misty eyed over this, nationalised industry is well capable of wasting plenty of money albeit not as corrupt.
This is what happens when interviewers only read the headlines and what-aboutery, and try to take on someone who knows the industry and their arguments inside out. Mick Lynch could have come out on top of this interview in his sleep
These people who don't know what they are talking about are shown up when speaking to someone who does know what he is on about - Respect to Mick Lynch
For once, a leader who actually knows what he’s talking about. If only we had more of the same in government then our nation wouldn’t be as corrupt as it’s been for decades. Good on ya Mick😀
They're playing naughts and crosses, Mick Lynch is playing 3d-chess. Honestly it's like a mechanic explaining the internal combustion engine to a Jack Russell and a Labradoodle.
probably easier to teach the dogs since they wouldnt reflexively contradict you with nonsense. like if you explained how fuel combines with air resulting in creating CO2, the dog wont start going "fake news, climate change isnt real"
@@jamescollins3647 the east coast railway was publicly owned and had passenger approval , it paid more money back to govt than any private operator. The tories are driven by ideology not common sense, as is demonstrated with the current corrupt system. I would like your view if you disagree.
British Rail was the 2nd most efficient railway in Europe before privatisation, that's why so many countries and companies wanted a piece of it. A pay rise would be funded through the companies profits so the money is already there.
Milk Lynch is, as usual, brilliant. However, this is the rare occassion where I will note a 'fair play' to the presenter who allowed him to speak, and not cut across him in order to hear themselves spout drivel. It's such a regular thing for presenters to constantly interrupt, even on.the BBC now, that I found it literally remarkable..
I love your generosity of spirit but I think it's nearer the truth to say that these two tried their best gotchas and had no option but to remain silent as Mick calmly and factually ripped them up in front of them.
@@Humanimal47 I understand what you're saying. However, challenging and questioning (including gotchas) are part and parcel of the interrogation of a point of view. What compounds that media style is when there is the additional layer of constant haranging by the interviewer to the extent that the interviewee cannot fully respond. This was even attempted at one point. However, when Mick told the guy, "You have to let me answer", the guy actually did. This is quite rare.
I admire your generosity of spirit but it seemed to me that these two had simply come up against someone who knows his subject every which way and they didn't have anything factual to defend their side of the argument. Mick Lynch is a legend.
@@skrich9690 I get what you're saying man, but see my response to humanimal47 for an explanation. That doesn't mean you are wrong in your estimation of this pair, however I have seen plenty of dumb and arrogant interviewers who ask a question and then won't shut up long enough to actually hear an answer.
@@michaelbailey8729 The same way they finance all public services. You notice that when people are screaming that there are not enough police nobody is asking about the cost. When the government come out and say they recruited an extra x amount of nurses or x amount of police nobody is asking the cost. But when it comes to _other_ public services then suddenly the cost crap comes up. If I am going to pay taxes, then I am going to want something other than overpaid politicians in return and since I don't have the option of not paying the politicians then I want public services. The more public services they cut then the more share of my taxes goes straight to the politicians and I am not happy about more and more of my taxes going straight to politicians wages and expenses. Maybe some people are fine with that, but I am not.
Just back from Poland. Excellent experience of the railways. Came back. Travelled in overcrowded train with no air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year.
@@2aph0d_b33blebr0x He isn't a baron you numpty. Barons are unelected, and Mick Lynch was elected by the members who fund him, and vote on his salary. On strike days he doesn't claim his salary, and donates it to the strike fund. He doesn't leech anything. You're just repeating 1970s Daily Express headline clichés like the numpty you are.
I’m amazed that this government got us in this position paying out millions of pounds to train operators even when trains don’t move. It’s ridiculous business.
Don't be amazed, they are good value my money to their mates, and getting a cashback in some sneaky way. The UK needs a white revolution, to bring back a white, Christian democracy, with males and females, anything else can be called by the old name: weird
@Lawrence Akin many years ago I saw on the news how much you had to invest in Railtrack to make £1m . I can't recall the amount but it was unbelievably low. Working class people largely live hand to mouth and are therefore excluded from these giveaways. If we had decent journalists in this country these scams could be highlighted. Instead we get Schofield , Willoughby and Prince Andrew on all the front pages .
I’m 67 and retired. I commuted by train from Oxford to London from my 20’s. The railways across the UK have steadily become worse and inflation-bustingly more expensive each year. One almost needed a new mortgage for the season ticket, and services seemed to reduce and delays get longer. That £16 billion per year is, for a large part, going on shareholder dividends and director bonuses.
I worked for Network rail from 2000 - 2008. Starting fro the bottom I worked my way up to site and machine safety controlled. Working on through private contractors like Bridgen, Coyle rail and several others. We would make good money, some made really really good money. 250 pounds a shift on the weekend. During Christmas period I was paid 750 - 900 pounds per day! Machine drivers could easily make double that or more, per day! The money being thrown around by these private companies was then of course passed on to the public, pushing prices higher and higher. While the levels of bureaucracy, paperwork and honestly lack of any real work being done were the end result. In the beginning on a weekend when we would shut down a line to do works we would stop our machines working by line of sight as a train entered the worksite on a parallel line, so the delay was minimal. By the end the electronic system had the machines stand down for several minutes, long before the train was anywhere near. And then only once we were given the go ahead by the system could we begin again. In the end we would work for a portion of the day. A job costing the tax payers millions, just for a couple days, without getting your moneys worth. The whole things turned into a joke, really. You see the knock on effect now, less work, higher costs. You pay.
The Government holds the purse-strings through subsidies. The reason wages were good until 2008 was the economy was booming in that time and the Government could pay those subsidies. When the markets crashed in 2008, wage freezes went into effect across the Western economies, followed by swingeing spending cuts and 14 years of austerity.
Totally agree with Mick. Journalists need to understand who's running the uk rail network down and it isn't the rail workers!! If you got rid of all the rail workers you will have no railway, if you got rid of the fat cat bosses who pay themselves thousands and millions, the railway will carry on, and with more money for the railways!
I remember British Rail. It was cheap as chips. I used to use it on a Saturday, using pocket money for a day out. Did it run on time. Not all the time, but back then they didn't have computers to keep schedules and track of where trains were.
@@mickc6700 Correct Mick, most people saw it as a public service, not a company. The same as they do in other countries. As with all the privatisations, the public were sold on the promise of competition would drive down prices and improve services. I have yet to find anyone who can name one of those previously state owned companies that is now cheaper and better.
Everytime I see ML swat away the nonsense questions, out right lies and general BS (that the heads of rail companies are never subject to) I'm more and more impressed with him, and I already was impressed with him to begin with! Because he's a working class guy, with a working class accent, people think they can patronise him and talk down to him, but he doesn't have it. Big up!
Mick Lynch is awesome. I hope one day he becomes a politician. He's exactly the type of person we need to address wealth inequality and social injustice. Listening to him gives me hope for a better future.
If there is any future for leftwing politics in this country, it's the trade unions organising and getting mass support and using that to leverage Labour into actually doing what they were started as a Party to do, instead of milquetoast centrist neoliberalism. If Mick Lynch became a politician, he would get sidelined so fast. We need him where he is, inspiring other people.
This is the best comment I've read on the 'Mick should be a politician' topic, you're absolutely right, mate - he is far more effective where he is, inspiring others.
Love Mick Lynch what a guy! You shut them idiots up well done Mick! He tells the truth every time and his answers always shut down whatever lies or rubbish the interviews throw at him
He destroys them every time. We haven't seen anyone like Mick in our media for a long time. He knows his subject. We just need to get back to a society of balance. These journalists are not for fair pay and balance. More corporate profits and excessive boardroom pay, and in the privatised industries, this comes from us the taxpayers. It is in our interest to get the top quality services we pay for. It shouldn't be hived off into profits until they deliver.
Mr Lynch is absolutely correct. Any user of BR during the 50s to the 70s - even in the good old days of steam - will confirm that the service was pretty good, in spite of Govt. cuts and failure to invest. Like the NHS, Govt. policy has been to cut budgets, run down the service, and then blame the declining performance on public ownership´ "inefficiency"
Contrary to popular belief, a lot of countries have competent leaders that would be able to debate well with Mick. Just because we vote for buffoons and idiots doesn’t mean other countries don’t have well functioning democracies.
Never tire of watching this. If something is a natural monopoly (test; you need an external body to create and govern that market, therefore, it's not a free market ).
I recall the old British Rail, when we had carriages with comfortable seats. Tickets were good value and families often used railways to take them on holiday,as prices were such good value. Today the seating is hard and cramped, assuming you can find one,and the prices are ridiculously high..
I'm so confused ...why are these people fighting the corner of private ownership? It's like they dont care. Honestly if a purge happened like in that film I would feel nothing for these rich pricks
