Hardtack? I'm not one for nitpicking, but I'm pretty sure that's more like bannock. Hardtack goes back as far as ancient Rome, is twice-baked, and is typically made from just flour, water, and salt. It gets it's name from being hard as a rock.

Pot: looks like a newly bought dutch oven, not even a charcoal stain in sight. Clothes: did someone make his clothes for him? Nicely ironed, especially the shoes, looks custom-made. Bag: newly bought from some leather goods shop...yeah, everything in this show is real. Real new and unused.

You can do it that way as well but for this I would recommend the cast iron pot a true Dutch oven will release a musty flavor so if you prefer that then go for it.

And its not hard tack thats campfire bread. Hard tack is cooked up to 3 times on slow hear and is so hard you either soak it in coffee or water to eat it.or you make it into a pot of soup as a thickener

the exhaust gases from the burning coal are hot, so they rise out of the soil, which then causes fresh air with oxygen to slowly seep back into the soil. since the glowing coals are not very hot, they don't need much oxygen to self-sustain the glowing, so the oxygen that enters the soil is enough to feed the glowing coals... btw this show is sooo fake and staged, i agree with everyone else they probably went online to get the recipe and then to walmart for the ingredients and tools ;)
