Besides Mickey Guyton’s beautiful and powerful voice (what a voice!), what I really love about this rendition of the National Anthem is the 10 member choir behind her. When they came in at “And the rocket's red glare….”, the choir added such stunning percussive effects to the familiar words, I literally had chills listening to them. With Mickey leading the choir in the second half of the song, they brought the anthem home to its rousing end in a most satisfying way. Bravo to Mickey and everyone in the choir for a great and most memorable presentation of our National Anthem. Thank you!

@@lockbert99 Whitney didn’t have a choice. It was required at the time. Typically singers lip sync in stadiums like this because the acoustics are difficult to hear yourself because of the amount of echo. And in this case where it’s one shot on live television on the most watch event on TV, you probably want to go the safe route. But we all know Whitney at the time could deliver what was televised… fun fact, she recorded what we heard in one take after only hearing the musical arrangement once with no rehearsals beforehand.

She did a great job. At first I thought it was going to be rocky. Very few have been able to do what she has done. Whitney is # 1 and she is following behind her. Usually even the best singers do a terrible job singing the National Anthem. She did a great job.

I think it's because she seemed like she was starting to whelm up in tears right before she was due to sing---, but Mickey held it in! Her rendition is one of the best.
