The reason they sang this at the end of the movie is a direct reference to the start of the movie when Gunny said "What is this Mickey Mouse shit?" after Pvt. Pyle had gone insane. Them singing this at the end is to show how insane this whole situation had become.
Well that, and the fact that it was a song they all knew and loved as a generation raised by disney club, yet still capable of the rigors and brutality of war.. just goes to show what the tiktokers are gonna be capable of as a generation.. but we dont know that yet!..
When I was in the air cadets we were on a range day and we as the last target detail had to match back 200-300 metres back to the safe zone in formation, so spontaneously I start singing this then a couple more joined in and before you knew it the whole squad were marching back belting this out... Great memories!

My DC hated me so hopefully she's not in cadets when I join as a cfav though. You're lucky that you got to do marching songs/cadences. I'm well jealous 😂
@@leodavis4242 I was also a music cadet. So having met some of Surrey acf... yeh they were a bit boring... lol It's probly because we marched (alot) in out drtachment. It could get boring so ncos spiced it up coming back from fieldcraft and if marching back on camp they would say sod it and do it there to 🤣 adults didn't care so long as we got back quick enough

Was honored to serve in the Army branch of the U.S. Military from ’66 - ’68 as a computer operator [lucky].. wasn’t I? ……. As this was during the Vietnam ordeal]. Full Metal Jacket a move one of the best ending scenes ever made. If you remember, these Marines were American children during the post war boom of the 50s. They had their amazing, fairy tale life handed to them on a silver platter by the New Deal and the men and women of the WW2 generation. The war in Vietnam, by contrast, was a rude awakening from their American Dream of a childhood, and broke many of these servicemen. The war represents their transformation and loss of their childhood, as the Mickey Mouse club was a popular show during the Golden age of the 50's. Them singing it here, in the middle of a war zone, shows how different they have become from their youth.

POV: You are a resistance soldier housed in a bombed out building with the last of your unit. The Free People of Disney Army have nearly completed their world conquest. The mouse has brainwashed every civilian and soldier to fight for him. Every city that resisted is in ruins and all the opposing film studios have been nuked. You and a few buddies are the remnants of your unit that haven’t been taken. You’ve sat in the bombed out building living off of maggoty food and dirty water. Praying everyday that God would take you to heaven early. All around you is the sounds of gunfire, artillery, and aircraft flying by. Your team is running low on supplies so the runner of the group goes to fetch supplies off of dead resistance fighters. You sit and wait for his return until you hear a loud bang. You peek through a hole in the boarded up windows to see that the runner had been spooked and discharged his weapon when a dying Disney soldier tried to grab him from ditch he lay in. The sounds of hundreds of boots are suddenly heard matching in perfect unison. The runner, realizing what he had just done, turns to his mates who are watching him through the process. He mouthes the words “I’m sorry” and puts the gun he had prematurely fired to his head. Before you could get a word out or try to stop him, he kills himself. After the roar of the gunshot and the initial shock fades away, you hear voices. The voices grew louder as did the boots. You peer back through the windows to see hundreds of Disney soldiers marching in unison towards your position. They are expressionless and zombie-like. You hear the song they are singing. They are singing a children’s cartoon song about the mouse. You and your squad realize that this is the end of the road. You all make peace with each other and to the deities you believe in. With one pull of the trigger of your M16 you start the last firefight. Your squad is slaughtering the Disney soldiers but they do not yield. They keep singing through the death and destruction. One by one your mates fall to the overwhelming numbers. Some of them were lucky to be killed instantly. Others didn’t have that privilege. You can’t tend to the wounded because it’s a lost cause. You keep mowing down as many of them as you can whilst hearing the painful cries of your best buddies. Suddenly, you feel a sting in your right shoulder and get knocked to the ground. While you are checking your wounds, the firing stops. You were the last man standing. Looking over you see the bodies of the men you shedded blood and tears with laying lifeless. Some were barely holding onto life, unable to speak. While you are trying to comprehend what you are seeing, a bellowing voice booms out a message. “If you comply with our orders you will be spared. Lay down your weapons and give yourself up. Your resistance is futile.” Halfway into his statement, your heart sinks because you know who it is. It is your favorite childhood character Goofy. He is leading Disney’s army on the ground. You are in too much pain to muster any words so Goofy sends in a couple lackeys to clear your building. Those who are still alive raise their weapons to fight try to take one more to the grave but they are shot dead. Knowing you’ll certainly be killed if you try to fight back, you comply with the demands. Goofy orders his men to tend to your wounds and help you onto your feet. Goofy stands over you and says “You put up quite the fight. You would make for an excellent officer for the Supreme Commander.” He offers you a hand and you grab it. Goofy gets you to your feet and puts his arm around your shoulders. Goofy says “Come. Let me take you to the Supreme Commander. He has shown great interest in you.” Unbeknownst to Goofy and his lackeys. You had hid a grenade on your body before they had entered your building. While he was addressing his men with his arm around your shoulder, you pull the pin and whisper into his ear “Disney may win the war but you won’t be there to see it motherfucker.” The death of Goofy rattled the Disney empire to its core and gave hope that the mouse could be stopped.

@@SamLNB in a way yes, but there is also times when it is too dark and too serious that it doesnt even leave room for comedy. Normal people just dont laugh at it and there fore there is no scene where it can grow. :p
