@moniqueengleman873 Did you ever read the book with the Monkees as the unsuspecting heroes ?. The book was called "Who's Got The Button". It was given to me when I was 10. I loved all the Monkees albums. Used to cut their records out of the back of Kringles cereal boxes. I have 6 of their albums. I got them all at once by a teenage girl in 1971. I was 9. I think I read that book about 10 or more times, lol. It actually was well written, especially for that sort of book. It all started with a telegram. Then, all four of them found themselves following clues that lead them to an underground network, I do mean the real under the earth underground where there was a sort of parallel civilization led by a Monarchy. I'm 60 now, but that's part of how it begins.

I love this song so much. Reminds me of my childhood. I loved REM's rendition too but the original is best. Only because of the joy it brings to my heart. It truly brings me right back to my my childhood. Micky Dolenz music was awesome! 🎶 🧡✌

@@le_th_I think that was the past. I found him to be more grounded since his third marriage and getting older. I read once that Micky was the glue of the Monkees and the most grounded but uptight. He seems a lot more serious than his character.

Along with the prejudice and rock-and-roll snobbery concerning the "Pre-fab Four" having completely dissipated (except where the foul RnR Hall Of Fame is concerned, of course), there's been an infrequent yet inspiring stream of Monkees-related material released (e.g., GOOD TIMES!, CHRISTMAS PARTY, THE MIKE AND MICKY SHOW, THE LOST RCA VICTOR RECORDINGS, DOLENZ SINGS NESMITH) that serves to remind people just how special the band and its individual members were. This take on "Shiny Happy People" adds to the oeuvre in the most joyous of fashions. Hey, if MICHAEL STIPE - who, with the rest of R.E.M. disliked the song with a vengeance - went on record saying he actually loves this version of the song, then you know Micky, Christian, Andrew, and the crew did something right!!) No, the other three aren't here, but Lord have mercy, you can feel them and the Monkees spirit in all four-plus minutes of this song. Thank you, Micky, a.k.a. Last Monkee Standing.

Mickey sounds great! Very nice to see the old footage! I was fortunate to do a tour of 14 cities in The United Kingdom with The Monkees back in the late 90’s. It was a bit surreal. The Monkees did a reunion tour, they were all there, healthy and still singing. Very nice to see Mickey still doin’ it!

Lots to unpack here... 1. Thank you for making the effort of doing this and putting it up. 2. It would be FABULOUS if you could do a "directors track" of commentary (or some such) that talks about the video and it rolls. I'm sure there are images that mean things only to you (MD), or subtleties the viewing public wouldn't "get." 3. I was a gigantic fan of REM (including being in their fan club from its inception and following them up the Eastern US Coast on the Green tour. [I also lived in London during their Bingo Hand Job nonsense.] But lost interest once Mr. Berry left the band. I hereby declare our version of both the song and the video is better than the REM original. 4. Have you considered adding a female vocalist layover in a similar style to Ms. Pierson? It helps the REM song -- could add a boost here as well... 5. It HAD to have been bittersweet to churn through the old video clips. Hopefully there was more building and repair done to your psyche than damage. 6. Thank you. Again.

My God, Micky still has it after all these years! I grew up with The Monkees, and never stopped loving them.....and Micky was always my favourite.

This sounds good, it fits Mickey Dolenz and his style of music. Imagine if the other Monkees members were still alive to do this.

What a great cover! It is a perfect fit for Mickey, who sounds like he hasn’t aged a day since the show. AMAZING! I’m sure the members of REM and Kate Pierson must be getting a kick out of this.
