The 7.28 Mk IV has also a new magnet system technology. Worldwide unique. The on top cost of this magnet was not covered with the small price increase. The Z-Tweeter Magnet system is much more complicated.
Love your speakers and planing to run the Z studio 3 way system in European final in April. Struggling to understand where I should cut em and how steep. Rekommendation in data sheet is 2500hz between the mid and tweeter with 6 db. Feels low and flat. Where do the best preforming tweekers cut em?
Had the 7 series composet in my car more as 10 years back when i still had my own install shop , loved it so much installed the whole line from 3 series to the Z serie Gorlich series into customer cars and won SQ contest with them
Really beautiful drivers - the 7 series is still one of the nicest car audio sets I've ever heard. They had a very neutral, transparent type of sound that I'm not used to hearing in car audio drivers, more common in hifi brands like Peerless, Scanspeak, SB Acoustics, etc. From memory the midbass was on the light side, but I remember the midrange and highs being genuinely impressive.
This next summer I'll be upgrading my Hybrid audio legatia L4se's and my L1R2 tweeters. I've been looking at either the Micro precision brand or Focal utopia. I really like that you took the time to talk about and compare these drivers today. There should be more equipment reviews coming from you guys on the regular!
Never tried MP speakers. But I just upgraded to utopia M from audiofrog GB25s, not really expecting a difference, but using a set to see if I had issues with the AFs (I didnt). And the utopia wm3.5s are REMARKABLE. It actually convinced me to drop 1k on a set of midranges and I have no regrets, and it actually convinced me to sell a kidney for a set of TBM tweeters to match. They turned me from a "people spending this much are crazy and the wall of deminishing returns hit them so hard it must have rattled their brain" to buying them. Just my .02c
@@picassoimpaler3243 yeah I'm definitely taking a hard look at Focal. I was never really a fan until I started learning to understand the t/s parameters and what they actually mean in relation to one another. So many factors at play! Focal makes a wide variety of gear which is great considering all the engineering and decades of r&d that's going into each new product. I'll be upgrading amps from Mosconi One to Zapco ap series this spring so the sound improvement will be magical!
@@lucaslong5368 To much hype about Focal Utopia M. In my eyes they are very tricky to tune in a car. Z-Studio is two level above Focal. I have never seen Focal at competition highest level.
I have 2 way 7 series run passive in modified factory locations from a Rockford 4 channel power amplifier and a Dayton 315ho sub. Sounds awesome to me 🥰
@@dlarrowsmith There's lots out there. The Tru Tungsten Grande line is one. The Helix P SIX Ultimate a favorite of mine. But more importantly, since you love your amp, is to add a DSP. Get a DAC in that setup. You're probably using bluetooth or wired carplay right now... which means you're using some really poor DAC. A DSP would be my first upgrade to your setup. Helix sells a nasty DSP that would reeeeeally change your setup.

I'll definitely be going for some of these for my van. Problem i have is budget and number of channels. I need 4 channels for the rear (seating area in a camper) which only leaves me with channels for the front so can only go 2-way and the question i have is, with that being the case would the better option be a 5 series mid-bass and the 5 mid playing all the way up, or a 5 series mid-bass and the 7 tweeter playing low?
It’s always about location, application & tuning, so there’s no reason why your speakers are not good enough, but there’s so much more to getting good results in a car.
Hi Peter, Is it really necessary that mid driver plays super lows and super highs if in application it is not required/needed?! Z series bass driver have ultra good mids, but in application again will it ever play those mids if used in 3way? Or is it more than that? Better/easier integration?
@@pssound9749 me 🤣 I've got the z studio midranges and wf. MID cost 1500 euro if You wanna try the Sound of it just buy Yourself a gorlich speakers its the same technology. Just MP z Studios are Improved better
