Thank you Jim for keeping us ladies safe from these jerks. Big big hugs to you. Love that you help Pam. Love you guys for helping us viewers learn survival skills. God bless you
This is what science is all about; conducting experiments to reach a conclusion! This is a great option for canned items that you rotate through within a year or less. Thank you for conducting this experiment despite all the backlash. You’re a canning trailblazer!
I remember the big brouhaha that you created. It was discussed on many of the canning channels. It is “not acceptable “ blah blah blah. However, as you mentioned Tattler followed suit. I think they owe you a finders fee or commission or something. Thanks for what you do, Pam and Jim!
I also wanted to add that I love the idea of using a tattler gasket with a regular lid, that way you know when you have a good seal. No ping with the plastic ones lol
Thank you both for your contributions to your channel. Jim….thank you for booting the wayward people off. Thank you Pam for your constant search for safe information!
Thank you Jim, for your hard work. Chivalry is not dead! Although, I thought I'd hit the jackpot with the last one. A DOCTOR!!! Oh, well, I can wait a while longer for Mr. Right. I'm only 70 (today!).
Its refreshing to watch a show that contains some failures...might be funny to say but we live in a real world with ups and downs. And encouraging to know that failure happens and affects us all not just some.
Jim thank you! I have gotten those messages on many of my responses and not only on your channel! Very irritating. I report them now. Thank you for that experiment!! I really don't like the plastic tattler lids. I can't tell if they are sealed. I like the pop in the metal lids. Glad they changed their lids! I vacuum sealed some of my dried food in the tattler lids and they were sealed when i put them on the shelf and I just happened to look at those jars and found that the seal had broken but I couldn't see it till I opened the jar.
Good news about the l tattler lids staying sealed and the new discovery to use the rubber seals on metal flats! Bummer about the yeti, but was worth a try! Thanks to Jim for the ( rose petal !)party and help to keep the us safe!
I can’t believe on a channel like this there are sleez balls searching to groom women. I love this channel I watch these videos to provide a good life for my family. Who ever is on this channel being indecent obviously made the wrong turn
I'm not surprised Jim did that! For as much time and energy as Pam puts into these experiments, I think a bit of a "show" is appropriate! Thank you, it's nice to know this is a real option in canning. I'm very disappointed about the YETI. I had heard replacing the batteries was an option as well.
I remember watching all your videos regarding the Tatler lids and it’s been interesting to watch your monthly updates on the jars. By the way, regarding the scumbags invading the comment section, I also report every one I find…they are disgusting people😡
Yay on the Tattler gasket experiment!! Sorry about the inverter not coming on. Sad. On another note, thanks Jim for the confetti! That was unexpected! Made me chuckle. Thank you so much for your diligence in keeping the site clear of unwanted harassment. Rock on you two!
I love the idea of a visual "tell" for a good seal on metal lids, since some of us are deaf and cannot hear the ping(?) that signals that a jar has sealed well.
Thank @RoseRedHomestead sharing this testing process. I just binged all the videos about this. I also shared with my mom and she said that in her younger days and canning with her mom, they always replaced the gasket as needed and reused the metal lids. They didn't have the purchasing convenience that we had today. Hmmm...she is 82. Wisdom is golden and sealed!
I am glad to know Tattler has the metal lids too now. It makes some feel a little more secure, hearing that ping. I know I have some brand of metal lids that don't ping, and it masked some fails. I have had success with their plastic lids though. 👍
just checked tattlers site. they do still carry 100 bulk gaskets. and all i can say is, thank goodness for you and tattler figuring out how to save canning.
I can't thank you enough for testing the Tattler gaskets with used metal lids. I was waiting to hear your results before buying gaskets. I had previously bought Tattler lids with rings. I bought a dozen rings-not 100, because I don't even have room in my apartment for 100 jars of anything-for a mere US$5.50 (46¢ each) and free shipping. People can be brutal. From your previous videos, I know you're able to tune out the noise and keep doing your experiments (like you did with the Nesco canner, which I also appreciated) as you see fit. We need you, and we trust you! I imagine by now you've realized it's not only homesteaders who are following you. I live in an apartment in a suburb of Milwaukee, so no room for gardening. But I love the fresh taste of the food I canned in the summer. Jim, thank you for taking care of us.
Oh wow that Tatler ring with a regular metal use lid is a great idea! I never even thought about that. Here’s one thing that I have done in case of a problem in the canning supplies. I’ve bought stainless steel bands and screens for sprouting seeds. Well I can use an older band that I might not use for canning any longer for sprouting seeds. But I’m keeping the stainless steel bands in case of an emergency. They will never get old rusty or chipped.
Hi Pam and Jim! Gotta share this with somebody who will appreciate it- I finally got brave last night and fired up my All American 930 pressure canner. I had been terrified of it. It taunted me for a few months. Ran a successful test run with it and I'm starting with pressure canning your beef stew recipe. Thank you for encouraging us all.
Good News! You can still purchase the Tattler gasket rings by themselves in the Tattler store. When you go to the store, scroll all the way to the end. You can find them a few products above the end.
Thank you... Thank you... Thank you for the experiment. I, also have been using the gaskets with gently used flats for over a year. I also felt like it was the gasket that would have caused a seal fail not the lid. It looks like we are both right!
I know this is unrelated but could you do a video on dry packed pressure canned potatoes and the science. Much love to you and Jim. May God bless you and your loved ones and shine his light on you always. 🙌🤲🙏💕🇨🇦
I was so perplexed when the coolers became so popular. People were just naming the brand and how well they worked. I was confused because I had no idea how many secret preppers were out there. Then they mentioned beer or how much they cost, I finally put it together. They were just being trendy with the newest consumerism gear! Not off grid preparedness! I will say that the coolers do work well though
You both are the best! What a hoot you both are! Such fun 😊 I’m always grateful for your information you provide us with. Thank you. By the way I haven’t been able to do my water bath canning course because I cannot seem to get on and also my two year old Bosch stove died on me and just now got fixed. To that I say Hallelujah!
Congratulations on your expirement! Thank you for trying the battery change excellent idea. Last but not least thank you Jim for reporting those people. Loved the confetti and your into music.
Thanks so much... mine have held just fine as well... I'm 1year and 3 mos. Next to my Harvest Guard as well the plastic lids too. All sealed and no issues! Thanks Jim, yes I've been contacted and I have reported as well. Blessings
So awesome, including the party confetti. lol Thank you again, and always, for seeing this experiment all the way through to a year. Often I wish a privately owned food lab could conduct a variety of suggested experiments all the time, and video them in detail.
You know, not only women listen to your channel. I've learned many things from you and I like the way that you present the information you provide thanks!
I just checked out the new Tattler metal lids on their site. They have just the gaskets available again 😃 I thought you might like to know that. I've been using For jars lids and rings over this past year. No failures 👍
You are inspiring, just started following you about a couple of months ago, when i feel a bit down i watch a random video of yours to cheer my self up. I told mama you look like her we giggled, but sadly she passed away a bit less than a month ago. Watching you cheers me up ❤️
Thank you thank you, you are a great inspiration for us to always try ! My work causes me to be around dozens of 12 volt batteries every day. Bulging is typical of getting overheat. Something to be considered. I love the way you two are fun & playful with a zest for life. You are both very blessed. 🌻
I stumbled across your channel over a year ago and am so thrilled to find someone who uses science based evidence and common sense to guide decisions. I will always turn to you first when I need info. Keep up the good work you two!! Also, thanks for the confetti Jim!
Such fun! Looks like I'm heading to get some tattler lids! Mr. Jim, thank you for keeping an eye on and reporting these jerks that have nothing better to do. Love you guys and I can't wait to try the recipes in the new 4 Sisters book!
YAY! on the Tattler experiment. I'm sure they are upset because they didn't think of the alternative themselves first. LOL I'm sorry that you couldn't revive your Yeti, but you gave it your best shot. Thanks for keeping it real and showing the failures along with the successes.
I'm also an old canner with mainly Ball lids but also Tattlers. I had about a 30% fail rate with Tattlers then spoke to the company who told me the trick was to finger tighten back it off again a little bit, can per usual, then as soon as removed from the water tighten again. This is fine for water bath canning but logistically doesn't work for pressure canning since you let the pressure come down over time and the jars cool slightly. I grab the metal lids with pressure canning now but will use the Tattlers for jams ect.
There is a rather large 'store' more like a small warehouse, that sells batteries. You can order from them, or tell them what you need and pick up a battery. I think they most have thousands of batteries available for sale - all shapes, sizes and voltages. I have a ups - uninterrupted power supply for my laptop - it smooths out the voltages spikes and dips, for what you plug into it - and also allows you to shut things down after you loose power - it keeps them powered up long enough for you to do a safe shutdown - or to prevent you tv from getting spiked by lightening. A new battery is sure cheaper than a whole new charging unit.
Thank you Jim. I haven't gotten creeps on this channel but on others. It is disturbing but I always block them. Thanks for helping keep us from those creeps.
Waaaahooooooo!! GREAT JOB, Pam!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ …… It would be interesting to see if the new tatler lids worked as well as the ones you did…….😊 This would be a fun science experiment!!💡
Wouldn't it be WONDERFUL if Tattler and/or Harvest Guard produced Stainless Steel lids (and bands, maybe) that work with their sealing gaskets. I would DEFINITELY supplement or trade my plastic harvest guard lids for these.
Hello lovely lady! :D That's fantastic, what a great idea, using their seals with your previously used lids is brilliant. :D Jim, you're a hoot, that confetti was so fun! :D God bless you and your wonderful family. Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D
I knew it would work! Good for you! The lack of lids and quality of the Ball lids now just force another way to come. I stopped using Ball lids months ago because of the fails I was getting especially the lids on the brand new jars. I've heard all kinds of excuses. All the lids were on tight and looked used. I ended up buying lids from ForJars. Excellent lids by the way. Thanks for testing this out. I have a ton of Tattler gaskets so when I run out of FJ's I'm going for that method. Too bad that company was so greedy, they missed an opportunity to be a hero.
