Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 vs XPLANE 12 

MSFS is not that far behing in terms of flight model. It's also likely easier for MSFS to fine tune their flight model than XP12 to reach MSFS graphics level. Also it is much easier for MSFS to attract new flight sim enthusiasts than it is for XP12. Most of these new users don't know anything about flight models and will only focus on the visuals anyways so in terms of marketing to a new audience Microsoft is likely to still win. Furthermore, once Microsoft gets something like a scenery gateway its default airports will improve drastically as well. I'll likely still use both sims though.

If you make comparison, please try make same shots in both simulators. You are showing different incomparable scenes in both simulators.

For collisions it would have been nice to have shown the differences when the plane collides with the ground.

I wish the shots could have been like for like but it does look like the comparisons happened in very different locations. The sea on xp 12 was just a large body of ocean, but on MSFS was a scene from the Bahamas with shallow green waters and land. The night time shot on XP 12 was like a small town. On MSFS it was city. I got the impression this person who compiled this video favoured XP 12. Sorry, just my thoughts. I want to see the same city, same angle and height on both sims. Same patch of ocean on both sims. The trees in XP 12 were low and close up, on MSFS it was a forest from altitude. Just not fair comparisons.

Well, I used X-Plane for ages, as it was just more convenient than P3D, had many interesting aircraft and good flight dynamics. From the release of MSFS in 2020 till today I considered it to be more casual. Today with the release of A320 from Fenix and B737 from PMDG, I consider switching to MSFS, also keeping in mind flight model improvements. Graphics are incomparable and if more well modeled planes, like some widebodies or E-Jets will be added, I will buy MSFS.

Loved XP for the flight realism when I was working on my pilot certificate. Added in an ATC sim and was loving the immersive feel. But MSFS has my full attention now that I just want to get in a plane and enjoy the sights. If I ever feel like spending an hour starting an airliner again, I’ll dip my toe back in the XP pool 😂 Seriously, though: 757 cold and dark… good times.

What airport was that in msfs @5:43? I didnt recognize it. Impressive how you can see those hills far in the distance out in the ocean. Oh and that water comparison @4:48 shows just how gorgeous msfs is.

Great comparison. No way am I shoving out $60 for something that looks like XP 11 with a slight makeover. BETA ?? who pays for an unfinished product .... not me.

X-Plane is def behind in the visual department at every level: scenery, aircraft, details, execution, lighting, etc. All that can save it is a better platform for aircraft developers to more reliably implement more realistic cockpits, however that is a race MSFS is already running. X-Plane is behind out of the gates.

Some comments are genuinely perplexing because it appears as if the rush to judgement supersedes any consideration of what X plane is. Essentially LR supply a mathematical modelling of flight, one that assesses how air interacts with the surfaces of the aircraft and shows this on screen, the aim is as far as possible to do so accurately. To achieve this version 12 has been substantially recalculated. It’s limitations remain as they have always been, the outside world is not visually up to what MSFS delivers, it never will be unless LR enter into cooperation with someone who can deliver that scenery. Version 12 has significant improvements in weather, ATC, lighting and certain aspects of airport visuals and vegetation, additionally most of the supplied aircraft are quite reasonable. Over the next year or three much will be added for the base price, an Airbus FMS and other add ons from a keen community that will improve it beyond the day one offering. Is it worth 60 dollars? A question that seems in the eyes of some appears tantamount to asking for the world, what that now, a tank of gas, for this you will get updates over the life of the product and for those interested, many hour of distraction from the misery of the world. I love when people compare Sims xplane 12 was never ment to beat msfs it was a visual upgrade from 11 and should be loved for what it is I love both Sims and we seem to get lost in the fact they are both computer programs

YEP, I hear what everyone is saying: as a Developer myself we also output software in BETA Stage and expect users in the company to come back to us and tell us areas of improvement after roll-outs. @ Agent yellow, I too mate do not know why they charge $60..... | I do suspect the game will be improved, just by looking at some of the scenery work, it still need a bit of improvement and a new XPLANE 12 version 1 will be output who knows.....* but I stand to be corrected please.* Anyway I forgot to say: Love the video and Love XPLANE & MSFS.

MSFS is clear. There’s too much compromise to even think about XP12. Microsoft have seriously flexed their resources here and have a dedicated team of flight sim enthusiasts and aviators to continue development.

For those who want to compare them in two years. In two years, msfs will have two years ahead of its competitor. Why ? Because the development will continue (during 8 years). Enough time to improve this so-called physics. I will never understand this war between pro MSFS and pro X PLANE. There is a lot of contempt from a group that considers itself in the truth. In one side you have the "gamers" and in the other side you have the "pilot". Finally, in both sides there are only aviation enthusiasts. You want to know how the physics is ? Go into a real cockpit and fly. If it’s not possible, there is an alternative option. VR!!! I’m a pilot in real life and I know what physics means. Physics feeling in 2D screen, I'm a bit skeptical🤨. Xplane development team... seriously if you want to survive take a seat and explore MSFS2020. maybe Xplane needs to take a deep pause and arise with something else than physics.

The two simulators have good things that the other does not have, therefore if the two were mixed we would have the best on the market. In any case, they are two very good products.

I know the graphics are not a priority for Laminar - they want to make a good home flight simulator. Also they just dont have the resources of a multi-billion dollar global juggernaut like Microsoft. They are both great titles. As wannabe home pilots sitting in chairs chewing on Cheetos we are spoilt for choice today! Having said that we ARE visual creatures and MSFS is just mind blowingly awesome in the visuals department. Im a fan of XP and have a heavily modded XP11 on my system. I honestly could not tell the difference between my modded XP11 and XP12 if someone didnt tell me which was which during a test.

i hear a lot of 'XP12 has better flight model than msfs', personally from a flight model perspective, i notice very minimal differences between the two sims... however, does XP have better ground handling? yes, but equally MSFS have said they plan to completely overhaul this and perfect it. despite XP being in beta still... what more are they realistically likely to change between now, and full release? i think a lot of people here saying 'but it's still in beta' are just holding out on hope personally... beta is usually just a phase in SD where they fine tune things and iron out bugs, not add new features.... i don't personally see there being any drastic changes between now, and "full release"... certainly nothing to write home about anyway.

This wasn't a good comparison. For the NYC comparison, you chose a COMPLETELY different city than NYC, making the scenery in XP12 look horrible, compared to MSFS. Choose the EXACT same spot in a comparison next time, maybe it wouldn't be so biased.

Whether or not you like xp12 or MSFS...if you are going to do a comparison video at least be balanced in your comparison ...i.e. use the same airports and water source for comparison and not different sceneries ...this gives the appearance of being bias and not giving the viewer a true option to make an informed choice

I have two positive things to say about XP12. The default twins are good. Some default airports are way better due to the scenery gateway.

The one thing xplane does better is the road traffic lights on the cars.

As long as the Flight simulator reads from reality through bing maps satellite of landmarks and buildings in 3D and nature is what is present Like msf2020 , it is considered a great achievement.. But X-plane12 reads from an improved scenario prepared for airports or some city , but the rest of the nature and buildings are not realistic because it is not linked to maps satellite and therefore does not that much change from the previous version 11.. and other note for airplane like A330 has old Boeing FMC ,not the airbus FMC (CDU)it self ..

Having both myself I was greatly disappointed by X-Plane 12 in the visual department even parts of the aircraft are in 2D. I am going to write this off for now as it being in beta and hope that when the full release is out it is greatly improved. The flight characteristics are on point in X-Plane 12.

I'm enjoying X-Plane 12. The flight physics feel excellent from the first moment in the air and scenery looks good enough. MSFS still doesn't have a demo, so I don't know if I'll ever buy it. Looking nice doesn't mean much if the planes don't behave like planes.

Two things that XPlane does waaay better is the built in working replay system (with instant seamless transitions between that) and the windshield wipers which is a disgrace that MSFS2020 doesn't have those yet.

Search with any search engine the "VFR ESTREMO" project is a simulator based on x-plane, but so implemented that it becomes better (even as graphics) than FS2020. Take a look at it and then you will tell me if I'm right or not .....

Everyone wants pretty pictures these days ... so shallow. I prefer the software used (in conjunction with hardware), and certified for, actual real-world flight training by the FAA. I couldn't possibly care less about photorealistic buildings, trees, or clouds. I can step outside and see those any time I like.

X-Plane 12 only takes up 25 gig and can play off line and MS2020 have to have internet connection to play and X Box so enjoy X-Plane 12 and it will get better as time goes on.

I have always supported X-Plane for the WED program and easy way to update airports among other things, but I will say this, considering the idea that 2020's physics are not far at all behind X-Plane's, the slight difference is something negligible when you're being immersed in the graphics of 2020. Unless XP 12 can be updated in several areas to look like or better in at least a few areas, 2020 is the winner this time around. A flight sim is about selling the experience, which is why I assure you many of us would consider a ride in a Level D simulator with motion and some FS2002 era graphics a bigger thrill than 2020 or X-Plane 12 on a desktop monitor no matter what the settings/graphics are. Considering most of us are using either sim without motion, the one with the better graphics is going to provide the better immersion, not the one with a slightly better flight model. The complex add-ons will come to MSFS.......there is plenty of money to be made by the parties.

“BUT XP HAS BETTER PHYSICS AND FLIGHT MODELS” is the worst argument. Do most simmers know what a real plane feels like to fly? No. Do you actually feel any of the forces? No because you’re sitting at a desk in your room.

Great video, though its important to mention that MSFS2020 was made by huge dev companies over a few years and with many partnerships, and XPlane is only made by Laminar Research (wich is relatively small compared to Asobo and Microsoft's team). Also, X plane doesnt really target the same people : it's a more simulator based rather than a game (which i consider MSFS to be since its on Xbox). But yeah, I own microsoft Flight sim and will probably not be buying X Plane 12

for anyone who is wondering why MFSF put such sceneries and XP didn't, it's because microsoft owns the servers required and laminar resarch doesn't, so they can't put that sceneries into the game

X-plane is 20 years old, then FS is 40 years old, that's what makes the difference, unfortunately both of them don't really do simulation anymore like when they first appeared, nowadays, they sell you and surf the maps overpriced graphics. Translate French to English !

xplane 12 looks like xplane 11. i've spent a lot of money on xplane 11 and i see zero reason to buy 12. ive got all the study level modules i could ever want, i got ms2020, fsx, p3d version 5, dcs world and il2 for everything else. I can say for sure the study level planes in xplane 11 i have are better than any of the planes in msfs2020 in terms of realism and full features. Nothing comes close to the realism of AirfoilLabs C172 NG Digital and Take Command!: Hot Start Challenger 650 in xplane. I love the fact I can get out of the plane and do a proper walkaround inspection. I hope one day msfs 2020 will get serious about it's realism, it's a pretty game and fun but I use it for casual sight seeing and leave the more serious stuff to xplane and dcs.

The average flight-simmer, like myself, who has never flown a real plane, will not be able to tell which flight model is better. I have flown XP11 and MS and both flight models feel very good but I couldn't tell you which is better. So, then we look at other aspects of the sims (graphics, things to do, cockpits, weather) and for me the clear winner overall is MS. I will try the XP12 demo this coming weekend.

How funny its to see that you didn't take the best shots for Xplane12 and you do that with FS2020!. For example: you didn't capture the rain drops on Xplane12, but you did that on MSFS2020. What that means, relly Xplane12 do much realistic effects in that example...

Instaead of purchasing the PMDG 737-800 on MSFS2020 (I already have the 737-700) I grabbed x-plane 12 instead and couldn't be happier. Be great if you could do a physics/flight modelling comparison. End of the day I spend 90% of the time looking at the instruments and above the clouds.

I just tried out Xplane 12 and it’s awful my texture inside the cockpit are blurry and my settings are maxed out. And I have pink textures everywhere. Worse sim

You can get the Xplane 12 advanced scenery now which makes it look 100000000x better
