It's a game about flying planes, that has copied and generated literally the entire planet. Even if there's inconsistencies, I am far beyond impressed!
Exactly, I think people need to focus on the amazing qualities of this game instead on nit picking. Of course there are going to be small flaws in a game so big. But you have to realise what it takes to make a game like this.
Yeah, instead of going bonkers about statues that aren't build like in real life, people on yt should talk about how good the flight model really is, that information is kind of thin at the moment.
80s rule thank you for replying, I’m glad to see that my comment made you giggle. Though I must admit the joke was not that great, I don’t see why anyone would go out of there way to laugh at my pathetic joke. It was a bland smart-ass remark on the videos title and I will not be making similar jokes in the future, I’m sorry to disappoint you.
@@HighwayTrooper There's a reason why forza horizon has millions of players because it's great the setting is outstanding the graphics are top notch it's just one of the best games of this generation
Yes, this is Flight Simulator not Parasail Simulator. Here in the US general aviation pilots east of the Rocky Mtns. without pressurized aircraft fly 3,000 AGL at minimum, often 5-7 is sought as it is safer. Height is your friend and you seek it the moment you rotate off the runway because altitude buys you time in case of an emergency and time buys you landing options.
Joshua Gavaghan Yeah, the game is just called Microsoft Flight Simulator, but I think they are confident enough in the progress they’ve made in the sim that they are ready to release it even though it’s not finished just quite yet.
In the days of broadband internet a game doesn't need be finished. It just needs to be finished enough to have fun and be impressed. They will continuos update it, and with 3rd party uprades it will be almost never finished
Wish they had some deal with google so they could use their 3d cities, several cities in Finland for example are 3d on google maps. Not a single one on bing maps. Kinda like the look of bing maps otherwise. EDIT: The satellite maps haven't even been updated in Bing where I live in ages. They look like they are probably nearly 10 years old. Says 2020 in the bottom right corner but I can see on the maps that my parents were still working when the satellite images were taken (they used to be farmers, retired now). You can see round bales on the fields, there has been no round bales on our fields in I'd say at least 7-8 years or so.
Wouldn't work. Satellite footage simply can't satisfy for something like that. The scenery would be impossible to create from the perspective of the ground.
@@kutzelberg8088 : Are you actually fucking stupid? Rockstar has created the best open world games of our generation. Liberty City, GTA 5, RDR 1 & 2, San Andreas, and GTA 3 were all award winning games. Beautiful maps with hundreds of activities each.

I'm hoping for a game in 20 years where we use full world using photogrammetry with exact populations living out there life with the correct traffic amounts etc. And also that we can go down and drive and walk about GTA style!

I’m still blown away. Anyone who is trying to convince themselves this isn’t a quantum leap forward in flight sim tech is kidding themselves. Load up your PC with P3D, all the ORBX products, shaders, weather and traffic addons, and it still doesn’t look anywhere near this good with the exception of perhaps the very few square miles of very specialized products like the Airports of FSdreamteam. Oh yeah; the big kicker, load all that up and crank it and enjoy your 15-25FPS. That’s the kicker, this does all that, out of the box, in a package that you can actually call a flyable sim. I know people are thinking about what they’ve invested in their current sim, believe me, I have around $1,500 USD in P3D, but this was always going to happen. There was always going to be a next installment or next gen, we just became so discouraged after Miscrosoft closed the previous studio, that we felt it may be decades away. I’m getting this day one. For those that bring up study level and training level concerns; you’re missing the big picture potential here. I’m a RL pilot, that’s what I use sims for, training and procedure practice. This is the infrastructure of a brand new sim that can carry us for the next decade and give us all that, except this time, it’s starting point is light years ahead. Apart from “I can’t afford it, I can’t afford the pc upgrade” nearly every ‘concern’ I’ve seen about forgoing this in favor of previous titles, is dead in the water.
@@flyjuice No helicopters, WOW! I'm shocked. I'd better change my mind on all the amazing scenery, graphics, weather, etc etc etc and not needing a monster PC to run it and even the promise of VR in the future. WAIT. Future for VR and I'm excited? Maybe helicopters in the future? Would that excite you MRH PILOT?
MRH PILOT Helicopters are reputed to be the first DLC. I’ve wondered about this decision, and here’s my opinion on it. Because Helo’s fly so much closer to the ground and within cities, and we have already seen a number of little issues with clipping, symmetry, generation, and synchronicity, I think they wanted to have a couple months to tweak the issues that arise with the Azure(sp?) and photogrammetry scenery. Being that helos will be so close to the ground and for much much longer, they wanted to have that time to polish and fine tune the scenery. They are definitely adding helicopters, they’ve confirmed that. It’s what this software means for us as a framework that people are really excited about. This is a whole new world for us and developers. I think we’re going to see some incredible stuff sim and study level wise.
@@flyjuice Shitty airplanes? What are you smoking? I'm actually offended that you call the current line-up of aircraft "shitty". Like bro, what planes did you want?
@@Bvetrayed In GTA you can get out of your car and walk right up to the door of a building, if you did that in this game you'd find the building was a big box with a pretty low-res texture on it. It'd be like the original GTA in 3D, really!
@@Bvetrayed GTA V is mire realistic on the ground than this game, which means GTA would look good enough from air, but this game sucks at ground, but still who gonna drive in MSFS 2020
All I want is a walking/biking/driving sim added to this. In 2030 we'll have it, along with a whole lot of Matrix. A scary world from 1984 coming to life, but a nostalgic one for me nonetheless.
In 2030, we’ll be able to just hop into the VR game, select our mode of transport (plane, boat, car, bike, on foot), and have the entire mind blowing experience graphics and all
@@robloxsamurai378 I have a lot of ORBX in XP11, my house is auto-gen... Even though the local airport covers the place I live. But in FS2020, I can see what mess I left in the back garden! 😮
SirMaxxi I’m actually not so sure about this. Game is already pretty resource intensive as is, these cars behave the way they do because it’s very cheap to have them do so. The game focuses more on flight, the cars are never something youre going to pause to examine realistically, why hurt performance just to improve what’s supppsed to be a minute detail
@@sakamataRL just forego full accuracy. make everything autogen. no one cares. i'm hoping fh5 with its new engine will have some sort of capability related to this. or at least a much larger map
2:38 err... I'm pretty sure that is Nottingham not Northampton, I went to Uni in Nottingham and I am pretty damn sure I recognise where that is exactly, we literally used to order food from a place called D2 and I see it on that map!
Yeah it's definitely Nottingham, I thought "wow Northampton has a Cotswold outdoor right next to a Tesco express on an island too" and then I looked at the map and it's defo Nottingham.
There are no "dead spots" for example my Village is fairly remote and it is realy close to reality. The only thing I dont like is that barns are mostly renderd as Buildings with windows becouse the old Satelite Images are not good eneugh. But anything other is awsome.

I'm quite lucky that I live in a photogrammetry area so it is there, but from 7 years ago. I assume that areas will be added as well as some areas updated. An, ongoing project!
@@oakleygolden-pursey6636 Indeed, I can only say to you what is there, once they appear in public videos. But you can just hit the windows key, type "maps" and what that shows you is what MSFS2020 has. 😏. But I will add, as OA says, from 1500ft the whole planet is almost flawless. An experience that, really no matter what you buy in other sims, is unrivalled. Come the 18th there will be 1,000s of Alpha and beta testers streaming to various platforms so the "secret" will be out! Only way is up! Until transitional alt then you have to wait. 😂
iiApp , that’s not confirmed at all just rumors from x plane fan boys that are trying to one up msfs, I don’t think they could get permission from google to use that data but who knows
I couldn't find mine on the Normandy map. My disapointment was tremendous. If the Channel map expands to engulf the Normandy map and gets up to the same quality I'd be excited.
@@Parabueto The Normandy map is much better than it was, but still messy, with rivers that flow uphill etc. No wonder you couldn't find your house. It only took a couple of years of complaints to get it fixed as well...
Absolutely mind boggling that the comparison shot of Northampton you used in this video is literally where I live. Of all the hundreds of thousands of miles of terrain on planet Earth you could have chosen, you actually picked the location where I live, thus saving me the need to find my own house in the sim! Crazy coincidence.
I'm from Northampton in the UK so I got excited that you decided to focus on it... I then got seriously confused when I saw the streets and houses I lived in whilst I was at NOTTINGHAM University. Found everything staggeringly impressive nonetheless. Thanks OA!
Just curious about one thing. Can you land on roads in the simulator or how does it handle landing in other locations than airports? I remember landing an ultralight in FSX on the road next to my house.
@@aaroncrampton34 it only goes to a black screen when you crash. You can land anywhere you are able to. There are multiple videos on YT where they even land on small islands, in the wild on grass lands, even on race tracks and alike. It's tough but doable. In theory you can even land on roads if they are pretty straight and wide enough.
You can land on roads, dirt tracks, pretty much anything flat and non-water. Squirrel and crew did a whole bush flight video landing repeatedly on sand bars along a river.
I found my house in FS 20 and learned my neighbour does have plenty of cars, including a Rolls-Royce all lined up in his backyard, noyce! And also, that one was quite odd, those fresh dug graves there, and a lot! I must make clear this view's my own, but I think these cars... are not his own.
I think it was obvious that the buildings would never be that accurate other than the shape and roof colour but the fact that it will even be there in the first place is really cool
The 3d photometry is years old (my garden still has a massive amount of honeysuckle growing in it which has been gone for at least four years now). It's probable the Tesco is newer than that. The street view seems to be a lot newer in places.
I was fortunate to have lived (and still live) in two photo-realistic cities that Bing covers: New York City, and Las Vegas. While I don't have FS2020 yet, I was lucky to find two random RU-vidrs who by sheer coincidence flew over my homes from both New York and Vegas in their videos, and everything looked 100% accurate, right down to each individual apartment building. I'm excited to get the opportunity to do that myself. I was also surprised to learn that a major city like London wasn't covered by Bing's 3D photos.
John Smith Well, we haven’t heard anything about what they’ve been working on or fixing, honestly. There’s supposed to be a development update on the official website today, but it’s still not there.
Xbox one s is the minimal requirement. Low resolution but playable. Might wanna save your flights a lot as well, I foresee a lot of crashing and I don't just mean a bad landing.
First thing I did was fly out of LAX since I'm from Los Angeles and I worked at LAX for 10 years as a ramp agent. I was blown away. Flew directly above my house and everything is pretty much on point. Obviously up close, it's not very detailed. But the fact is, I saw my house, my neighborhood, and all the streets I drive by everyday look just how they look if I go on Google maps. I've never been this blown away by a video game before.
It's in the Windows Store under "Maps", it uses Bing map data :) I should have known they wouldn't have photogrametry for Manchester, Uk, but I had to check anyway.
@@vegardpig8634 It makes sense from the MS point of view though. While Bing maps is inferior to Google maps, why pay for someone else's data when you have your own?
Fascinating, this private has had a 30 year wait to effectively be able to dead reckon (IFR-I follow roads and railways) I’m stoked! Thx for the work you do here, very informative.
Statistically someone's going to be flying over their house while an actual plane flies over their house and it'll freak them out. edit: yes, i stole that comment. teehee.
Kind of like how only last night when i was doing an impression i said "i am the lord of darkness" to my girlfriend and then a power cut immediately happened. "Well that was creepy"
2:36 That Tesco Express isn't in NorthHampton it's in Nottingham. I used to live near it so I know where it is. Its nice that you added Nottingham map to compare. Thanks for that!
That is so impressive, I can't wait for the time we will be able to play games on a 1/1 scale planet/region/city with a good level of details. I know a lot of games already have map editors that can import real-world data heightmaps, the problem being where to find good quality heightmaps in the first place, most of the time these heightmaps are plagued with ridges.
Will there be paid DLC’s? And I mean planes and airports, maybe also handmade cities? I hope not but I have a feeling there will be some expensive DLC’s...
of course there will be payware addons to FS...its always been the case. And will always be the case. Even before it was "DLC" it was called expansions. But there will be a lot of freeware mods I'm sure.
Of course there will be, but it's optional. You really don't need it but some people might like parts of their home town or airport represented better or a certain plane to fly. You could be very happy with the base game though.
yes, there will be. DLC's are quite common in the flight sims. In x-plane 11 for example, you can find user made addons for over $70, but don't worry there will also be a ton of free stuff
Thanks for your videos their really interesting and addictive. This 12 days will be very long. If gta 6 could be like that it will surely be the best selling game ever
Not me, my computer will probably turn into an oven if I ever touch that game, but I'm hoping to buy a new one along with the game in the upcoming couple of months.
Bing doesn't have PARIS? Either Microsoft or Google has to swallow their pride and allow Microsoft to use Google's photogrammetry data in the sim. I'd pay another $100 on top of the $126 to get as much of that photogrammetry goodness into the sim as possible.
I tweeted Sophie Reade the other day, and told her that when Microsoft release the next Space Simulator in a few years time after Flight Simulator is a huge success this year, that I cannot wait to visit Uranus...
the cool thing about the globe Microsoft built is that they can make other sims and use the exact same map. trucker simulator, race simulator, boat simulator...
Ironically you've mist just that one other simulator they created in the early zeros, MS Train Simulator. There was even a special RailDriver controller that was optimized for the game..
I was one of those who actually thought he would see his house at it really is I mean I will definitely recognise it but it won't look exactly like irl
I flew from along the highway that I drive pretty often here in Ventura County, CA USA and although it wasn't 100% accurate, it was still very, very, close. I could recognize several shopping malls, farms, and the like from the air. It wasn't me looking for the landmark, I would see it and recognize it it was so close to the real thing. My first sim was MSFS 1.0, so this just blows me away. As long as you are 1000+ feet above the ground, I think anyone would be impressed, as long as there is sufficient sat/topo data available for the region.
the graphics are so damn ultra realistic that its in the uncanny valley and constantly moving to and from "this is real life" and "no this is a game" in my mind.
Given that I live in a part of Portsmouth with the 3D mapping I'm now REALLY excited. Going to take a drone cam down my road! Although I'm not going to dive into it straight away. Because I first fell in love with flight sims with DCS a few years ago, I'll be learning the sim out in Georgia at the same airfields I trained in on that sim. Then a couple days in we'll be doing a big fly out up the coast to compare the scenery and airports we use so much. From there I'll be taking a King Air all the way back to the UK to land in this 3D photometry area and so far I've got one crazy guy who wants to do it too, so we'll be landing in fingertip at each of the airfields along the way.
For some reason I find FS2020's guesswork cities more charming. Maybe it's just the color grading making everything look greener and more lush, or maybe it's the presence of more mid-rise units rather than pancake-flat sprawl. It's really pretty, and I think real life has some catching up to do!
People should note this is just the vanilla graphics bro in the base game . The other sim games like xplane11 and then the one Lockheed you needed to buy SO MANY ADDONS TO MAKE IT LOOK AS GOOD AS THE VIDEOS PEOPLE MADE And that shit was soooo expensive...this looks great out of the box!
AFS = Asobo Flight Simulator This is beyond Microsoft Quality, this is a true statement. Asobo are the best! Love that team! Awesome team & people! They deserve ALL the credit.
