The PC market has been spoiled by cheaper options. People, if you want quality you gotta pay for it. Luckily those other cheaper options haven't gone away. Choice is good.

Lisa, the display adapter problem has been an issue on my earlier Surface Pro and the Surface Pro 3 I replaced it with which I purchase used off of eBay. Are we any closer to getting a fix for this? Also will you be doing a review of the Surface Pro 4 vs. The new Surface Book 2 soon? I might have sprung for the Surface Book 1 except 3 hours in tablet mode is simply not enough.

The Surface Book looks so wobbly, definitely looks like a 1st generation product. The Pro 4 looks more appealing IMO.

Great comparison! I thought it might be useful to also show the SB reconnected to the keyboard but in its opposite orientation option to fold it down for a wedged surface. Still, nice and thorough comparison/reviews! Great stuff.

Is the sp4 or 5 good to get in 2019? Want a tablet for drawing and everybody saying iPad iPad. So looking into other alternatives. I can get a surface w case, pen for same price as an iPad w pencil on ebay.

Hi, thanks for the review. For a combined leisure (internet, media playing) and business (citrix, office) 2 in 1, portable for some travel, for at least 3 years use - would you prefer the Lenovo Yoga 900 (i7, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB) or Microsoft Surface Pro (i5, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB)? This is a comparison I am struggling to find, specifically re those specs (which put them in about the same price bracket), and I know you have reviewed both machines. I would have thought the Yoga 900 i7 has better processor performance, but the performance tests I have seen in online reviews suggest the Surface Pro 4 i5 may edge it. Similarly it sounds like the Surface Pro 4 has noticeably better looking brightness and contrast (despite an apparently lower res). And also in favour of the Surface Pro i5 is its snazzy pen. But then then Yoga has a larger 13.3 screen, JBL speakers and a USB C; and the Surface Pro 4 stand looks precarious for actual laptop use. So, I was hoping you might have some thoughts, as I have not used either machine... Thanks in advance!

It would be awesome if we could see a review between the surface pro 3 vs surface book. It may seem obvious but is it really worth anybody's time to upgrade from a surface pro 3 if one is not a graphic designer/architecture etc?

Thank you Lisa of this excellent comparison. For me, visual artist, the Surface Pro i5 looks to be the one. The 3hrs battery and price of the Surface Book puts it out of my area. I don't do games on the Surface. Just Artrage, Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Microsoft Office, RU-vids and Web Surfing. I have the original Surface Pro i5 with 4GB and 128GB SSD which I am getting by with.

@MobileTechReview is it ok if I have my Surace Book plugged in when I am home? Does it damage the battery? I take it with me to school and when I come back I leave it plugged in till the next morning and use it while plugged in.

Hi Lisa, Due to Apple's recent faux pas with their keyboards a lot of people including myself are looking at buying the older generation (2015) Macbook pro over the newer Surface book/pros. As they're about the same price and fit in with my Apple devices how about a old skool vs new comparison?; is it worth it?.

I mainly would use it to type those essays and surf the web( entertainment). The sp4 I would get is the $999 model and the type cover. The SBook I would get is the $1499. I bought a surface book for producing in machine & Live mixing today, I had a surface pro 4 for a few days but returned it! I also had a surface pro 3 all last year and other windows laptops prior.. Love these devices, they're light look great and I get to keep sailing my windows flag

Hey Lisa, I always enjoy your reviews and thought you did a great job in this comparison/smackdown. Personally I prefer the SP4 over the SB simply because I like that is a tablet with a keyboard and has the power to cope with pretty much most things. As much as the SB looks superb for me it stops there. Looks are one thing but I cannot get over the screen wobble. I noticed you held it throughout the entire video and have seen this on many other clips of the SB. It just wobbles horribly at the slightest touch it appears. I think they should not of made the SB a detachable screen and left it as a complete laptop, that is my thought anyway. Currently I own a SP3 which I really like and have had no issues with, I might consider changing it for the SP4 at some point.

A comparison between the Vaio Canvas Z and the Surface Book would be helpful to a lot of users. I actually owned both and found that the quad core in the Vaio was noticeably faster in every day tasks compared to the Low Voltage i7 in the surface. The surface actually has frozen and crashed on me twice in the week that I've owned it, while the Vaio hasn't at all. The Vaio has had a couple of weird graphical glitches when in one note, but that's about it. The dGPU in the surface beats out the iris pro graphics for gaming, but that's about it. The hinge on the Vaio is fantastic. Considering that the Vaio Z is nearly the same price as the surface book, I think people need to know more of the differences.

Can Microsoft make cheap versions of these like instead of "fancy" metals can they make one with plastic or at least cheaper metals

Okay, so I'm in the market for a Surface laptop/tablet for uni and I've noticed that in my country the i5 8gb version of the Surface Pro 4 with keyboard is only $100 cheaper than the Surface Book. Should I just grab the base model of the Surface Book because of the small difference in price or should I go with the Surface Pro 4?

The impression that I get is that the Surface Book and Surface Pro are laggy when drawing compared to devices like the Wacom tablets... why is this? What is it in the electronics that causes this?

Im a web designer and I have found that IOS will not autoplay a video background... I need to display a website's video background on a mobile device. Will the Suface Pro act like a desktop computer and play a video background? Or like the IOS, will there be a data restriction that prevents autoplay video backgrounds to play? - Thanks!

What really annoys me is the missing usb port on the surface books display. Absolutely no on the fly possibility to get like a movie (or anything for that matter) on to the tablet without the keyboard, for example in a plane or so. A big big minus if you ask me. Especially for that price tag.

I would imagine that the surface book is going to outsell the dell xps range and the macbook pro range by at least 3/1. Congratulations Microsoft on pushing computer design forward. Apple are now about 2 - 3 years behind the tech curve, it's hard to see them in the laptop business in 5 years time.
