This knife is made to be used in two ways. Opened as a knife and closed as a kubaton. The idea behind this knife is the same idea behind the Benchmade SOCP folder. Your fast deployment is to pull the knife out the pocket in the closed position as a kubaton and only open if you have enough time. Thats why its tip down. Imagine you are going to pull the knife out of your pocket in the closed position as kubaton to strike the opponents head. If the knife is tip up you make 3 moves to strike the opponents head. If the knife is tip down you make 2 moves to strike the opponents head. That why its tip down and thats why you have the skullcrusher in that position. Its the same idea behind the Benchmade SOCP folder. Its a pity the knife public doesnt understand.
I need the Socom Elite. Had the older version before. Had a phater linerlock, thicker where the lock bar was set, where you closed it. It looked so cool and felt so good when opening and closing.
Really like that blade. Especially the thickness.. expensive but quality steel and great materials for the handle so it’s justified. Love the sound when you open it
Got an Auto with Apocalyptic blade...looking to get a manual in Tan in a couple weeks! Won't be surprised if these go up $50-$100 as there becoming more popular especially with the Stitch being out of Stock..it's just as nice if you ask me, mines has 204p steel
I have a Oct 2011 socom elite /20cv.It is less slippery to maneuver .Microtech left off the stippling ? below the clip ,which for me makes a BIG difference on my new socom elite.
They did on the non show side of the knife for the new model on most production models some of the customs have a inlay on either side like the earlier production did
The last generation SCE which includes the 2001/2006/and the 2011-2012 runs had a lot more variation in lockup from the factory. The few manual action Elites that were made in 2001 were of superior quality as was the norm in the Vero Beach days.lockup was Perfect ....2006 models were ok overall, but machining tolerances were not as tight and lockup could be early, late, or full over touching the opposite handle...2011 was about the same but at the end of November in 2011, Microtech switched to custom fasteners, ball bearing pivots, and the lock bar became a “floating” or non-fastened piece. And it was not as thick as in previous models...again lockup varied, and for the first time, customers received Knives that would fail a LIGHT spine-whack test....I know Knives are not used in this manner, but it was surprising for a Microtech.... I have 3 2018 SCEs and lockup seems very consistent, and in line with about every other example I’ve seen reviewed. I think it’s easier/less expensive to modify or just replace if need be, a small steel insert rather than a larger, more complex titanium or steel lock spring ...could be behind the design 🤷🏼♂️
I love these blades! Just buyer beware! If you buy the autos make sure you don’t slam the blade closed. I’m a police officer in Chicago and I was doing this for a while and kind of sucked line up. Now the blade runs into the rear of the handle... my own fault but still heart broken. I would have thought there was an internal stop pin.
@@williamp.4617 near the tri grip model has been discontinued the one with the milled scales I have here but they're still making different models all the time Microtech tends to do small runs of different versions of each model then discontinued which sucks but keeps the collectors demand up
In my opinion those two knives are made for two different jobs. This beats it in a tactical/defensive role but for EDC/gentlemen carry the amalgam wins hands down.
@@Good.shepherd420 what Danny said except I would add the caveat that they're both versatile enough to fill the role of either so don't let that be the ultimate determining Factor but that's how I would see it as well
Thanks bro. I really thank you for the advice, I bought the 162-1 eod and it’s great. I saw that your one has the Text s30v near the beginning of blade. My has it over the Sibert design logo , is that normal
Yeah check out the Boker Kalashnikov line and the Kershaw launch series of side opening autos but yeah gentleman's folder is a category of folding knife more recently popularized generally referring to sleek lightweight flashy knives
Thanks bro. I really thank you for the advice, I bought the 162-1 eod and its great. I saw that your 162-1 has the marking S30v near the beginning of the blade. My has it over the Sibert design logo, is that normal?
Yes it did I know that changed and I reached out to Microtech and have not received an answer on why I'm not sure if the original information was incorrect and this is actually 6061 or a change in materials this was a very early produced model of the recent Socom Elite production 7075 is hard to manufacture so they may have changed to keep production costs down I don't know
