Thank you so much, this helped a student - our stove has been broken for a week and literally had nothing else to eat, but pasta and sauce. I was contemplating eating the sauce alone tonight xD
I just googled if it was possible to cook pasta in the microwave since I’m only making pasta for one! If you can cook ramen noodles in the microwave you should be able to cook pasta!!
After doing it a second time with macaroni elbows, I realized this is basically the same concept as easy-mac, only you have to cook it longer because the pasta wasn't specifically designed to cook fast. That said, you should totally try this. It'll definitely make any dorm experience you have a lot easier :D
dorm life i guess. i used to make boiled eggs, boiled potatoes, and of course spagetti in a kettle. I definitely DONT RECOMMEND it. but back then we only had a kettle, so a microwawe oven at the dorm still looks luxurious to me.
Pro Tip: If you like long noodles, instead of breaking the pasta, boil water separately using a kettle or something* and pour it on one end of the pasta in the bowl. It will become soft enough that you can bend it to fit in a small bowl. Then continue as normally. Learned that method when cooking pasta on the stove. But thank you for the vid! I wasn't sure if microwaving boxed pasta was possible, and this gave me the courage to try. haha *I use a stoneware pitcher in the microwave, but beware if you use Pyrex. Boiling water in completely smooth containers can be a burning hazard because it can superheat, meaning the boiling water will appear still but can burst when you move it. If you use a glass container, I heard you should put a wooden stick in there so boiling bubbles can form. But my stoneware pitcher has little cracks and grooves, which act as nucleation sites so bubbles will form, and it won't superheat.
I thought I was lazy cook extraordinaire for microwaving rice. This is awesome! Thank you for sharing how to do it, because today is one of those days where I'm craving spaghetti but don't want to spend all that time boiling it or washing that big pot in my tiny sink. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Year old comment but microwavable French toast is also quite an easy treat if you don't feel like going about it stovetop. And as long as you get your desired milk level then, it's truly comparable to the real thing.
Arden. You’re not a lazy student you’re a great pepper. I live off grid no stove and a messy black pot if I do it over and open flame outside. 2:00 and I’ve been dying to see if I could actually make noodles in a microwave. Moe you just showed me how to get the noodles cooked quickly so you can put in the rest of your own ingredient’s like green peas, onions, diced ham, pre-cooked from a a can , salt, pepper, 4 tablespoons of miracle who or mayo, optional is celery salt (🎉eliminate the regular salt and use the celery salt instead). I cheat sometimes and I even go to the store and buy myself a little packet of cheese so I could add the final touch of that fresh cheese to the salad. Takes about 20 minutes at the most to make and clean up is minimal. I got the idea for the salad from my dad when I was a kid. And he got it from his mother. So it’s 100 year old recipe but it’s simple it’s quick and it’s delicious. Next trip to the dollar store pick up 3 red plastic, leftover dishes with dishes and you ate all set. (an optional ingredient is sugar a quarter cup for 8 ounces of noodles. I have a sweet tooth.). 😊
Hell i'm nearly 70,don't have much time left on this chunk of granite, and I sure don't want to spend it standing at a stove.....this will work for me !
Yeah, you can totally use elbow macaroni! I tried it with that next, although I haven't done that in about a year, so I don't quite remember the time adjustment. You could probably use any type of pasta if you wanted.
I'm here because I'm poor, I live in a cheap motel, and only have a microwave... I've had these noodles for over a year now, and it's one of very few edibles things I currently have.❤
Gainesville FLORIDA checking in! Today is February 12, 2024! I searched spaghetti noodles in microwave your video popped up. I saw that it was 2 minutes long I said yep that's the one. It's was awesome I love it so I subscribed
I remember cooking pasta is very tedious after I watched how they prepare the sauce in the pan with all the ingredients. I probably will try it your way
Great tip, I glad you mentioned that I’m Italian and yes indeed put a little bit of oil Btw once you drain your pasta, if your not eating it right away or saving some for someone else, mix a little of your sauce with your pasta and it will NEVER BE STICKY, believe me I do it every Sunday, have been for years, even if you boil your pasta on the stove, especially if you make a lot of pasta 🍝 Enjoy!!
Honestly after resorting to buttered noodles because I'm broke and can't afford the gas bill this month. I don't know why I haven't made it more often. It's honestly awesome. Always feel like I need to do something special when I get noodles but buttering is amazing by itself.
Been doing this for years after doing a dry chicken noodle soup in the nuker. If it worked for those bits of angelhair pasta then it should for any pasta. I started experimenting in my large 2qt Pyrex bowl, my normal (1000w?) microwave, about a third of a pack of dry pasta, salt, 4 cups of water, and hit 12 minutes. Not nearly enough. Then did 18 and it was too much. 16 is now my magic number for whole wheat pasta using the above (I think I did 1 minute less with regular pasta but it was a long time ago). Works like a charm each and every time. I've also experimented with dried Spaetzle and they needed way more (20). Angelhair pasta needed much less so I stopped buying it as I didn't want to switch times all the time. The Pyrex, for a loner like myself, also then serves as a convenient bowl to throw together some type of sauce together from cans with mix and match different flavors to keep things not boring which begin to heat up from the residual heat of the cooking process while the pasta is draining (and then get heated by the pasta when I dump it back inside); rarely - but sometimes - I'll throw the combined product back into the microwave for another minute or two if the sauce ingredients were too cold.. Afterward, I only have to clean the Pyrex, colander, and the fork most of the time. The 2 cup water measuring cup just gets wet so only dries out after use. I honestly don't know why more people don't do it... Just find your basic pasta/water levels that work for you and experiment a bit. Once dialed into the right time for that portion for your microwave, you'll never boil pasta on a stove top again. The beep tells you it's done perfectly for you every time. Caveat: The Pyrex needs to be large enough to handle the increased volume of the boiling water and the swirling pasta. Hence I use a 2qt Pyrex for 4 cups of water and that ~1/3rd of a pack of pasta during the cooking process. The only 'downside' is having to break the pasta in two but that's just cosmetics for me...
My Italian grandmother just rose from her grave and slapped me across the face for watching this. Just kidding! I’m German and greatly appreciate this for my current situation lol thank you!
Thanks alot for making this video Arden!:D Am in the same situation since all my housemates went back to their hometowns this holiday week(leaving me alone in my dorm) Tired of going out searching for food too:P Thanks again !!
I guess if you don’t have access to a range or hot plate or inductive cook surface … then that works, but it really isn’t significantly quicker than boiling it conventionally. And if you tie up the cafeteria microwave for 10 to 15 minutes at lunch, you will probably get lynched anyway.
Don't wanna eat raw spaghetti to see if it's done? Here a nifty trick, Just throw the pasta at a wall if it sticks it's done if not put it back in for 5 mins
I’m here cuz all 3 of my roommates haven’t cleaned the mess they made in the kitchen for 5 months now and I need to find a way to leave while eating 😭🙏🍝
I just moved into my place, no pans, went shopping at Publix and saw some skyline chili in the freezer section, on the box it showed it on top of spaghetti 🍝 so I had to get it all. I really want it but don’t want to go buy a pot so I’m gonna try this tomorrow cause I keep thinking of that skyline chili
